  • what a loser

  • He was about to say Metal Zone and he called it "Metal Tone" and it's a fucking DS-1. Holy fuck..... -_-

  • I had a DS-1 when I was younger and I would advise anyone interested in it to get a better pedal with more sound capabilities. I wouldn't get a distortion pedal with less than 6 knobs to really sculpt your mids and EQ it right.

  • he always seems sad

  • @enthnd03 Probably because everyone hates him....

  • Comment removed

  • WTF ?? the first 1 minute is a total waste......us guitar players never read the manuals....we just plug and play....boom....THAT'S HOW GUITAR PLAYERS ROLL.....WINNING.

  • @AJSoundbytes so true, never read any instructions, thats not RocknRoll! ;)

  • @AJSoundbytes The only thing I ever needed a manual for was the Boss GT-6 multi effect processor. But I sold that damn thing. Way too complicated.

  • he can play the pedal better than the guitar

  • i don't wanna see the unboxing, i wanna heard that shit

  • OMG! it comes with the boss catalog???!!!!! I HAVE TO GET IT!!!!!!

  • @Jaxter2798 oh, and i just noticed hes using a gretsch to demonstrate a DISTORTION pedal. great job dude...

  • 3:21 fail AHHAHAHA

  • @lamoureuxmaxim owh... fail* xD

  • the weird thing is that there the most popular pedals but there the cheepest as well

  • This guy doesn't deserve that Gretsche

  • How is this such a popular pedal? I have one and it sucks ass

  • The boss ds-1 its a high gain distortion pedal and will not sound god with an high gain amp! if you are using full stack amps (high gain amps)use only overdrive pedals ...not distortion!God is the ibanez tube screamer ts9! or the Boss sd- superoverdirive!

    God luck to anyone!

  • he is definetly stoned !

  • Learning to play before reviewing gear helps a lot...

  • 2:00 it begins...

  • oh my fucking god, are guitarproshop the only people that know how to get a good sound out of this thing?

  • @SmallFish616 everybody can make a DS-1shine by using it with a really good sounding tube amp (e.g. the Fender 65 DRRI of PGS) at any watt level (that's the most important thing because actually the sound of any pedal depends on the amp) and a comparatively good electric guitar

i use it with a vox ac4tv and it sounds great

some famous guitarists around the world who may use a total of 10000$ rig and a 50$ distortion pedal can't be wrong

  • "today we re looking at the ds1 box, first we have this cardboard boss and inside there is this manual thing which says postage paid, and also there is this weird orange thing ....never mind that.....here is the warranty information..."

  • STOP SHOWING THE SHIT THATS IN THE BOX... JUST PLAY THE FUCKING PEDAL YOU DOUCHE !

  • thats one sexy guitar

  • uuhhh, i don't care about the manuals and the in/out sockets, just play the damn thing

  • Well this is a wake and bake if I've ever seen one...

  • Another guitarist that knows fuck all about anything.

    IE your average guitarist.

  • Comment removed

  • The Boss DS-1 comes with an 'OFF' function which is really usefull. ;)

  • i like when courtney love uses a ds1

  • this guy is ridiculous... "let's take a look at the box"? come on!

  • pessimo,non è assolutamente il vero suono di DS-1 !

  • i don't really bag on many of these demo videos.

but you always use the most unlikely guitar on every video.

    stop it.

  • This pedal is like the most popular pedal ever. It seems like every guitarist has one.

  • @thejakeludwig its the cheapest, thats why i bought it, its whatever

  • @thejakeludwig i don't, i have a Danelectro T-Bone

  • @HitmanJenkins1 Danelectro pedals are shit their too cheap

  • @thejakeludwig i know, but i got it for free when i subscribed to Total Guitar ages back, so i'm not complaining

  • @HitmanJenkins1 Way to go ride on =D

  • @HitmanJenkins1 - I have a t-bone as well, the damned thing keeps breaking...does yours work ok? the connections keep coming loose...it's good enough for the blues stuff i play, when it works ;)

  • @brohmanski I've had mine for at least 4 years, it hasn't broken once, mind you I hardly used it for about two of those years, I'm replacing it with a Big Muff soon anyway

  • I have this pedal, it's cool, but you'll get tired of its sound, it cuts the bass frequency.

i think that the MD-2 does a better job

  • Why does this jackass get the coolest job in the world?

  • @Zevonfan524 Connections?

  • this pedal fucking blows

  • check out my boss ds1 evil mod!

  • This Pedal is good when you Mod it, especially the vintage mod, i got the schematic on the net then i change the components & soldered it and works fine, from mouse to monster hehehehe!!!

  • it is so gay how he takes it out of the box and shows you everything inside. JUST PLAY THE DAMN PEDAL!!

  • @monkeyknife1 hahaha i know this guy make me wanna shoot him!!! hahaha

  • When I bought this it worked fine. Now I don't know what it is with it.... When I play It get really loud sound when i strum...Anyone knows why?

  • Boss pedals are s****, i REALLY have no idea why anyone would own one.... even some of the danelectros burn Boss

  • oh yeah and Im kinda tired of every demo having the standard blues player... wheres the versatility???

  • my frend gave me one for free, so i cant bitch. use it with a 99 mex strat with hot pups and line 6 spider amp.

  • sweet @ 3:16, hope that camera fuzz was the guitar amplifier, and not someone getting chillz yo.

  • n00b

  • I didnt get my boss catalog when i got mine! WTF

  • everything he demos sounds like shit!!!!

  • @deanosabbathfan i agree with you but the things he demos can sound good

  • @deanosabbathfan That's because his gear selection is SHIT. He uses Gretsch, Rickenbacker, Telecaster while demoing all the distortion channels and the only time he uses a guitar that's meant for high gain, he's demoing an acoustic simulator! -______-

  • Dan agosto has the worst choice in guitars when pairing up for pedal demos.

  • I used this pedal with an hybrid strat ( japanse body, american neck, pegs, cts pots) with fender 57/62 pickups. I like the sound but i dont want to get a heavy distorsion i just want to add more punch to the sound. If you want a real thick dist, you should get a MT-2 and a Noise gate.

  • @geteese

    .... Or a ProCo rat :-D

  • Which is better?????? DISTORTION DS-1 , OR METAL ZONE????

  • The pedals is very different. What kind of music do you play?

  • @twentytwofrets the ds-1 is not really something you use for distortion on it's own it sounds like crap but you rather use it for a boost pedal and metal zone is pure Distortion

  • I use it on its own.

This demo Sucked! hes Not playing it to its Full power. not turned up all the way & he even has a Marshal! and it sound weak.

  • the pedal is pretty shit no joe but when u get the ds1 modded like the keeley mod it can be a kick ass pedal

  • @varone6t9 I agree, it's not that bad pedal actually but you have to play it with the tone almost all the way down. But I agree, it's pretty much crap but the keeley mod sounds awesome

  • @xxRockst4r I dont know man I set my tone to about 10 o clock, with the distortion almost all the way up and the level a little higher than 12... sounds badass but other than that I can't put the tone any further until it starts to sound wack... but yeah I keep my settings like that and I can't say Iv'e gotten a better sound out of a distortion pedal.

  • @twentytwofrets depends...ds1 is for metalcore music and metalzone is for the like metallica crap it just depends what kind of musc u like

  • which batteries needs it??????

  • He either needs to get of drugs, or replaced. He sucks.

  • You air are an idiot. "Off", you mean. And you're hardly one to be saying that people suck at guitar considering how ridiculous and embarrassing your own videos are

  • Chill dude, I'm not bashing his playing, I'm saying he talks like he's high or bored or something. I would like to see your playing.

  • Playing guitar is not my thing at all, I suck and I wont deny it; or rather, I can't playing anything intricate. I just hate to see dudes getting ridiculed for nothing. My apologies

  • @LeeChavezMusic

Dude, just shut up. You have no room to talk. What you said is off, he's a not a show off like you, he's just showing the pedal. Learn a G chord, then talk.

  • Too loud.

  • is this good for metallica or ac/dc or marilyn manson

  • Can't believe how real this sounds! (Don't judge buy/not buy by this comment :P)

It reminds very much of how it sounded when i tried it in the store :)

  • oh my god...nearly every pedal hes testing sounds shitty....the reason is his weak technique and his equipment-combination,..which is an absolute desaster...for a representative/informative review

  • @velvetizerrr unfortunally you're right

  • i already have a behringer super metal pedal , is it worth me getting this pedal aswell or is it more or less the same? it sounds really similar in my opinion and im just thinking i might be better off buying a tremolo pedal instead so i have more effects?

  • if you like your sound: dont change it.

if you dont like your sound: try out other pedals

    thats it

what guitar/amp do you play? maybe someone could give advice

  • I'm aiming for a distorted tone but i play indie/alternative music so it cant be too distorted. I've got a fender reverb 35 amp and ive jut bought a fender telecaster mexican standard .

  • maybe you should experience a bit with you amp's overdrive.

if you have assured yourself that it sounds shitty you should try out some classic overdrive pedals. spend some time in a shop where you bring your amp and the tele.

maybe you could give an example of your favourite sound (song?)

  • it;s quite an old amp and too much gain creates too much hiss i'm afraid , that's why i'm after a few pedals , as for sounds i'm sort of aiming for a bloc party / arctic monkeys tone , but i also really like radio head if that helps.

  • skip to 145 for the actual playing

  • it sounds a lot better in my marshall. but i also have an equalizer which i would reccomend to everyone

  • equalizer is my number one baby.

  • i hope you dont mean no. 1 in you fx chain ;)

  • but how does it switching on i bought same but i dont know to swichit on

  • Put a battery in it, plug some guitar cables into it and step on it!

  • Comment removed

  • i think its a bad idea to mod this pedal. . . . .its just distortion and it will only sound like a distortion.

  • im not a modding expert, but i think it always depends on what you want to achieve with the mod.

  • shity pedal

  • me too. i'm about to perform the Keeley mod on it, though

  • ill admit the postage paid stuff is kindof irrelevant. but this dude does a good demo. better than most i've seen. and i don't see why people hate this pedal so much. it's fine

  • It's a very good pedal (i have it :D)

  • yeah good solid pedal i have two, had em both for about five years now. never had any problem and i use them A LOT!

  • why is he using a gretsch with this

  • Awfull sound!Too scratchy!!

  • you're kidding!!! postage payed and a safety manual!!!????? I'm buying this shit NOW!

  • @GlicVideo hahahahahahaha! XD

  • @GlicVideo ahahahahaahah...you are the best...ever!!

  • @GlicVideo did u really bought it ? how's it like ?

  • @dunavidrava hes beeing sarcastic. -.- =D

  • why he dont use a metal guitar?

  • i have that pedal and it doesnt sound bad!! you dont fucking know how to use it!! shitbag

  • you can't go wrong with a ds1

    unless you're a cycroptic fan

  • i don't like it tho

it eats up all the bass frequency

    it's way too trebly sound

  • The pedal its great, but in this review it sounds bad

  • yeah,the sound is shitty

  • lets open the box?......wtf

  • no lets not, we can just look at the picture of it on the front XD haha

  • this guy sucks at creating tones, his tone always hurts my ears and his voice is annoying :(

  • Thats cause he using a distortion pedal into clean which is a big fat no-no... put it in front of an overdriven amp dummy!!!!

  • That's what you do with an overdrive pedal. If you combine a distortion pedal with an amp overdrive, you'll get way too much feedback. I know from experience.

  • That just depends on your amp and pedal, I've never really had that problem.

  • LOL

  • *facepalm*

  • Oh, wow. Box, foil and manual, battery, bla bla and at least buzz buzz! Yawn... That Marshall sounds too bright. DS-1 is very bright itself. He got total fuzz out of it. Bad.

  • who the hell cares about the waranty papers!!!! the manual! its like 3 nobs. jesus a fucking dog could operate it!!!!

  • someone could tell me approximately how much the DS-1 in USA?

  • 39.99$

  • 40-45 bucks

  • like $40 or so...

  • I got this pedal and sounds way better that this demo..its maybe that guitar.the EQ in the amp..or just the player himself..I use Ibanez guitars..

  • so do I

  • ibanez is the best.

  • mine came with no battery :(

  • Yeah Satriani is known for using this pedal and I guarantee he is not using this 100% for distortion. He is using it to push a Marshall harder.

  • the main and best use of this pedal is one of an O V E R D R I V E with a T U B E amp it does wonders to beef up a tube distortion with a richer sound with loads of harmonics.

  • I'll buy one of this. Actually its a pedal that just costs 61 euros on my country

  • I don't like this pedal one bit

  • This guy's depression is killing me.

  • why is he depressed? is he on drugs?

  • I don't know that he's depressed, he just seems that way

  • This dude is probably pretty chill, he has a killer job

  • yeah this pedal sounds like crap, no wonder it's dirt cheap

  • Maybe u sound like crap, this is just a tool! It doesnt make miracles !

  • I saw this at guitar center, it was like 30 bucks. New. It's not bad, just not heavy enough for me. I prefer a DS-2 or an OS-2.

  • not a good pedal thru a solid state amp

  • well JCM2000 not solid state.... it's a tube amp. but it sounds aweful. If someone buy marshall they should look for plexi or at least JCM800 or 900

  • i know its a tube amp,but one time i always used this pedal intill i bought a solid state

  • sounds soooo bad!!! =(((

  • and the best part of the DS-1? it comes with the catalog!

  • hey dude, don't tell it. I got a pedal like that....... =(

  • Dan agosto likes fishdicks

  • Comment removed

  • sweet pedal. I plan on getting it soon. Can u tell me what that guitar is? Because it is freaken awesome!

  • Gretsch Jet. That's probably an American, 1500 dollar guitar. You can get a Chinese one for around 500.

  • I like combining the mt-2 and the ds-1 sometimes, it creates hella feedback scenarios. other than that why doesn't he just use the distortion on his marshall :) This pedal has it uses, but it lacks a certain oomph that's needed for heavier music.

  • i don't know why people love this pedal so much. i've had this pedal for three years and it was the worst three years of my life. finally i sold it. i don't give a fuck if it is a 40 dollar pedal... still sounds like shit.

  • maybe you just do not know how to use this pedal.

  • hmm... I'd think again... this pedal is designed for Tube Amp. I had the same opinion when stil having a solid state. But it changed after I had a tube amp. The huge difference is there!

  • This kid sucks and obviously doesn't know what he's doing.

  • im getting a distortion pedal 2moz any suggestions?

  • I know it's too late, but get this and send it to ROBERT KEELEY (google him) and get him to mod it out Ultra and SEM and it#ll sound smooooooth and fat.

  • 93!

These reviews are sufficient, to garner a basic idea of how these pedals sound, but....You are leaving a lot out!

What everyone fancies to know, is whats printed on the papers that come in the box!

You wet our appetite, just showing the printed materials; we want to know the great info Boss sends with the pedal. What kind of paper? What is the typeface? Is the box, flimsy, or sturdy? To much attention on the pedal! Some, give the pedals away, and cherish the box!

    93! 93! 93!

  • And yes, we need to know that the postage is paid

  • christ, that first riff he plays is br00t4l!

  • rubbish review !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • haha this guy is epic, every distortion ped i've looked at on youtube, guess who is opening the box? haha

but for the record, i think this pedal is no where near as good as the Rat

  • why does he always play grandpa guitars

  • ive seen him play a few jacksons

  • I play a Gibson BFG into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I play through 3 pedals. A 73' Cry Baby Wah, An early 90's Boss CS-3 Compressor Sustainer and then through my Boos SD-1. I have my tone set to about 12:30 my level always varies and the distortion is always maxed out and when I play through the P-90 my spine tingles. Watch buddy from Pro Guitar Shop, he does a good demo for every pedal I've seen and he actually plays tunes to give you an idea of what the pedal might be best suited for.

  • this combination does not sound good....sounds fuzzy...can he actually play a guitar?

  • Why couldn't he have used something like an RG or a Les Paul? Would work better with the DS-1 imo..

  • Keep in mind that a Duo Jet is semi-solid so the guitar itself is hollow. It's naturally a dark instrument. The mini humbuckers offset this a bit but it's still warm. Realize the DS-1 is only 40 bucks and is far from perfect.

  • Dude why don't they ever future pedals and amps by playing like Punk or Grunge.

Like for once with no blues, rock'n'roll and other shit solos that theyre playing all the time.

Just for once with some heavy power chords...

  • i should hire this guy to open the box of my next pedal im getting... LMAO xD
