I had a DS-1 when I was younger and I would advise anyone interested in it to get a better pedal with more sound capabilities. I wouldn't get a distortion pedal with less than 6 knobs to really sculpt your mids and EQ it right.
WTF ?? the first 1 minute is a total waste......us guitar players never read the manuals....we just plug and play....boom....THAT'S HOW GUITAR PLAYERS ROLL.....WINNING.
The boss ds-1 its a high gain distortion pedal and will not sound god with an high gain amp! if you are using full stack amps (high gain amps)use only overdrive pedals ...not distortion!God is the ibanez tube screamer ts9! or the Boss sd- superoverdirive!
@SmallFish616 everybody can make a DS-1shine by using it with a really good sounding tube amp (e.g. the Fender 65 DRRI of PGS) at any watt level (that's the most important thing because actually the sound of any pedal depends on the amp) and a comparatively good electric guitar
i use it with a vox ac4tv and it sounds great
some famous guitarists around the world who may use a total of 10000$ rig and a 50$ distortion pedal can't be wrong
"today we re looking at the ds1 box, first we have this cardboard boss and inside there is this manual thing which says postage paid, and also there is this weird orange thing ....never mind that.....here is the warranty information..."
@HitmanJenkins1 - I have a t-bone as well, the damned thing keeps breaking...does yours work ok? the connections keep coming loose...it's good enough for the blues stuff i play, when it works ;)
@brohmanski I've had mine for at least 4 years, it hasn't broken once, mind you I hardly used it for about two of those years, I'm replacing it with a Big Muff soon anyway
This Pedal is good when you Mod it, especially the vintage mod, i got the schematic on the net then i change the components & soldered it and works fine, from mouse to monster hehehehe!!!
@deanosabbathfan That's because his gear selection is SHIT. He uses Gretsch, Rickenbacker, Telecaster while demoing all the distortion channels and the only time he uses a guitar that's meant for high gain, he's demoing an acoustic simulator! -______-
I used this pedal with an hybrid strat ( japanse body, american neck, pegs, cts pots) with fender 57/62 pickups. I like the sound but i dont want to get a heavy distorsion i just want to add more punch to the sound. If you want a real thick dist, you should get a MT-2 and a Noise gate.
@twentytwofrets the ds-1 is not really something you use for distortion on it's own it sounds like crap but you rather use it for a boost pedal and metal zone is pure Distortion
@varone6t9 I agree, it's not that bad pedal actually but you have to play it with the tone almost all the way down. But I agree, it's pretty much crap but the keeley mod sounds awesome
@xxRockst4r I dont know man I set my tone to about 10 o clock, with the distortion almost all the way up and the level a little higher than 12... sounds badass but other than that I can't put the tone any further until it starts to sound wack... but yeah I keep my settings like that and I can't say Iv'e gotten a better sound out of a distortion pedal.
You air are an idiot. "Off", you mean. And you're hardly one to be saying that people suck at guitar considering how ridiculous and embarrassing your own videos are
Playing guitar is not my thing at all, I suck and I wont deny it; or rather, I can't playing anything intricate. I just hate to see dudes getting ridiculed for nothing. My apologies
Dude, just shut up. You have no room to talk. What you said is off, he's a not a show off like you, he's just showing the pedal. Learn a G chord, then talk.
oh my god...nearly every pedal hes testing sounds shitty....the reason is his weak technique and his equipment-combination,..which is an absolute desaster...for a representative/informative review
i already have a behringer super metal pedal , is it worth me getting this pedal aswell or is it more or less the same? it sounds really similar in my opinion and im just thinking i might be better off buying a tremolo pedal instead so i have more effects?
I'm aiming for a distorted tone but i play indie/alternative music so it cant be too distorted. I've got a fender reverb 35 amp and ive jut bought a fender telecaster mexican standard .
maybe you should experience a bit with you amp's overdrive.
if you have assured yourself that it sounds shitty you should try out some classic overdrive pedals. spend some time in a shop where you bring your amp and the tele.

ill admit the postage paid stuff is kindof irrelevant. but this dude does a good demo. better than most i've seen. and i don't see why people hate this pedal so much. it's fine
That's what you do with an overdrive pedal. If you combine a distortion pedal with an amp overdrive, you'll get way too much feedback. I know from experience.
Oh, wow. Box, foil and manual, battery, bla bla and at least buzz buzz! Yawn... That Marshall sounds too bright. DS-1 is very bright itself. He got total fuzz out of it. Bad.

What everyone fancies to know, is whats printed on the papers that come in the box!
You wet our appetite, just showing the printed materials; we want to know the great info Boss sends with the pedal. What kind of paper? What is the typeface? Is the box, flimsy, or sturdy? To much attention on the pedal! Some, give the pedals away, and cherish the box!
I play a Gibson BFG into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I play through 3 pedals. A 73' Cry Baby Wah, An early 90's Boss CS-3 Compressor Sustainer and then through my Boos SD-1. I have my tone set to about 12:30 my level always varies and the distortion is always maxed out and when I play through the P-90 my spine tingles. Watch buddy from Pro Guitar Shop, he does a good demo for every pedal I've seen and he actually plays tunes to give you an idea of what the pedal might be best suited for.
Keep in mind that a Duo Jet is semi-solid so the guitar itself is hollow. It's naturally a dark instrument. The mini humbuckers offset this a bit but it's still warm. Realize the DS-1 is only 40 bucks and is far from perfect.
what a loser

I play a Gibson BFG into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I play through 3 pedals. A 73' Cry Baby Wah, An early 90's Boss CS-3 Compressor Sustainer and then through my Boos SD-1. I have my tone set to about 12:30 my level always varies and the distortion is always maxed out and when I play through the P-90 my spine tingles. Watch buddy from Pro Guitar Shop, he does a good demo for every pedal I've seen and he actually plays tunes to give you an idea of what the pedal might be best suited for.

this combination does not sound good....sounds fuzzy...can he actually play a guitar?

Why couldn't he have used something like an RG or a Les Paul? Would work better with the DS-1 imo..

Keep in mind that a Duo Jet is semi-solid so the guitar itself is hollow. It's naturally a dark instrument. The mini humbuckers offset this a bit but it's still warm. Realize the DS-1 is only 40 bucks and is far from perfect.

Dude why don't they ever future pedals and amps by playing like Punk or Grunge.
Like for once with no blues, rock'n'roll and other shit solos that theyre playing all the time.
Just for once with some heavy power chords...
