I never saw him again after we left that youth facility. I have prayed for him since then and hope he is doing well in his life now. It's been over 7 years now.

That aside, I understand this was a demo and meant to get attention, and I will say, very, VERY impressive. However, if you ever find yourself in a situation were you are holding someone at gunpoint, GET SOME DISTANCE.

People need to stop trying to bash this technique. This really works. In my opinion it uses element of surprise, technique and stun in order for this to work. But like any other thing, you can't just watch this and expect it to work after watching it. It will take practice in order for you to get it done the right way. Thanks for the video.
@mastrdanart Actually that is not usually the case. A mugger usually isn't a trained fighter, just a thug with a gun using the intimidation factor. From what I have seen, they like to put the gun right in your face. The technique works because action is always faster than reaction.

There are always so many variables in muggings, random acts of violence, kidnappings etc. It is prudent that those who wish not to become victims be prepared for every range. My dealing with gang members is that of how you described. I also think avoidance is best when possible. This is also why I like the word "usually". Because there can (and here is where the word fits) always the possibility of something unexpected. @mastrdanart Your argument, while valid, is based on variables. An experienced robber won't afford me the opportunity to take his weapon. I know this. A trained fighter will not put his gun right in my face withing striking distance. However, when dealing with common thugs, most will have overconfidence in the fact that they have a gun and you do not. This overconfidence will lead them to make mistakes. After all. They have to be close enough for you to hand them your wallet.

Sure the magazine is out, but there's still a bullet in the chamber. Negros don't just stand there super still waiting for you to take their gun. They jump around, wave it in the air, and fire off shots. It aint going to work like that in real life.
@4Firearms well, if you know to eject the magazine then if the guy fires the round in the chamber then it takes away the advantage. I myself would not risk something like trying to disarm someone with a semiautomatic pistol unless I knew he was a complete novice.
Your purpose seems wonderful, spiritually and socially. I would say that though this common disarm demo is exciting in a sense, it is a contrived setup. I can imagine SOME perpetrator getting close enough for you to reach his gun, but most wouldn't. As well, you bring the gun across your face in the reversal, and a live trigger is going to go off in most cases, given the perp having his finger on it. Bad news in the real situation.

@slopri Well, for starters, in Europe, and most other areas where gun bans have been put into effect, after the gun bans gun crime actually rised. The reason? Criminals still get guns because they don't care to get them legally. If we began to live like Europeans, we'd relinquish our best way of defending ourselves against these illegally armed criminals.
@slopri Considering that there are over 80 million gun owners in the US and over 250 million guns and that just recently a record 14 million guns were bought in one year by Americans, I think there is a relatively low number of firearms homicides.

People need to stop trying to bash this technique. This really works. In my opinion it uses element of surprise, technique and stun in order for this to work. But like any other thing, you can't just watch this and expect it to work after watching it. It will take practice in order for you to get it done the right way. Thanks for the video.

@mastrdanart Actually that is not usually the case. A mugger usually isn't a trained fighter, just a thug with a gun using the intimidation factor. From what I have seen, they like to put the gun right in your face. The technique works because action is always faster than reaction.

There are always so many variables in muggings, random acts of violence, kidnappings etc. It is prudent that those who wish not to become victims be prepared for every range. My dealing with gang members is that of how you described. SO yes I agree with you more versus the statement from the other individual that it never happens.. never and always are words we should use sparingly especially in real self defense. @ATPMINISTRIES Thanks for your reply. I agree 100%. Which is why I am training for close, medium, and long range attacks. I believe that reliance on only one skill or technique is a path to folly. I also think avoidance is best when possible. This is also why I like the word "usually". Because there can (and here is where the word fits) always the possibility of something unexpected. "Always" fits well with "possibility". :-)

If they r stupid enough to give you the gun it may work. but then maybe not. if the guy reads you and shoots first...you're done. its a risky technique.

@mastrdanart Your argument, while valid, is based on variables. An experienced robber won't afford me the opportunity to take his weapon. I know this. A trained fighter will not put his gun right in my face withing striking distance. However, when dealing with common thugs, most will have overconfidence in the fact that they have a gun and you do not. This overconfidence will lead them to make mistakes. After all. They have to be close enough for you to hand them your wallet.

Real situations remain fluid. The "attacker" here is disarmed not disabled and there may be others. BGs deescalate when staring down a pipe. It is now a deterent. Use if necessarry. This demo did not involve multible attackers. It was one person. Even using a weapon on an unarmed violent attacked will put you behind bars. I've been in martial arts since I could walk. And in that time I have studied the applicable laws. You go ahead and do your thing on the streets, but it won't matter in prison.

Learning the amount of force rquired is as important as any block or strike. And someone apparantly forgot to teach you that lesson.

The assertion that someone "won't get close enough" is an extremely stupid one. The majority of armed robbers have no clue how to use a weapon, and this is not saying: BY ALL MEANS NECESSARY DISARM THEM. This is just to say that plenty of people do it -- even if it isn't a good idea.

Your purpose seems wonderful, spiritually and socially. I would say that though this common disarm demo is exciting in a sense, it is a contrived setup. I can imagine SOME perpetrator getting close enough for you to reach his gun, but most wouldn't. As well, you bring the gun across your face in the reversal, and a live trigger is going to go off in most cases, given the perp having his finger on it. Bad news in the real situation.

So we share an appreciation for long and short range. Head is not out of the way at the point of the snatch, but the assailant does have their finger on the trigger, for all you know squeezing, and like SeerTruth stated, that's more than likely very bad news bad news. I understand this a theory that needs incredible practice and enjoyed the video. Hopefully none of the viewers are ever put in that situation.

@jxsterlong The biggest critique is that my head does not move to get out of the line of fire. Here is the logic, the left hand comes up from the blind spot of the attacker holding the weapon, (IF) executed correctly the parry is the redirect which moves the line of fire from defenders head. 1. Best case scenario the strip works 2. most likely case weapon fires intentionally or accidentally and powered blast and percussion temporarily deafens defender but he has control of weapon.

@slopri Well, for starters, in Europe, and most other areas where gun bans have been put into effect, after the gun bans gun crime actually rised. The reason? Criminals still get guns because they don't care to get them legally. If we began to live like Europeans, we'd relinquish our best way of defending ourselves against these illegally armed criminals.
