Ok, your center magnet at the bottom needs to be multiples.

Your disk needs to have two magnets on opposite sides.

You have the wrong idea about the strip at the top.

You should have "repulsive" magnets pointing upwards from 6 o'clock to around 9 oclock, and do away with the strip at the top.

This will cause the disk to be "heavy" on the right side.

The problem with your attractive approach is that it is causing the weight on the disk to find a neutral state. It won't work.

Great demonstration. Unfortunately, there will always be a point (or multiple points) of equilibrium along the path of travel for the magnet(s). Adding more magnets and moving them around only moves that point of equilibrium (visualize the magnetic force vectors broken into their respective components as you move the magnets around -- you may mentally find those equilibrium points before you physically experiment with it). You can "borrow" a small amount of energy from a magnet, during attraction. But you need that same energy to escape the field.

Same thing in reverse. To have two magnets come together you have to put in the energy to force them together, but you get that same energy back after it repels.

Hint: The disk needs a full magnetic circumference and the outer rim needs an alternator. Its almost impossible to permanent magnets to spin perpetually by themselves, some small energy input is often required. Here is Australia we made an electric/magnetic motor that has a 50 watt battery input which is stepped up to a 320 watt output using magnets. So assuming the magnets last 100 years thats 672KW produced from magnetic fields alone. Almost free energy, but HH0 electrolysis is better.

Those are ceramic magnets not neodymium magnets. First, the color gives it away, and secondly the ease in which he adds, and subtracts magnets. Pulling apart 1/2 inch neodymium magnets requires a good bit of force, far more than what he uses to move the magnets around.

Furzeham Nice efforts. Am I correct in assuming your set up is against a wall (rather than on a table)so that the axis or rotation is horizontal? If so,then may I suggest using a counter weight,slightly heavier than the single magnet you have mounted on the disc. The counter weight must NOT be magnetic,then perhaps the overbalanced wheel,through gravity,will force the opposite side with the magnet through the sticking point. I think you can stay with your single layer magnet configuration.

Excellent suggestion for adding flexibility to the design and in a way possibly a significant improvement. With your suggested setup having a heavier non-magnetic counter-balance would make both gravity AND magnetic forces were aiding in getting to overcome that tipping point.
