This episode is the most touching of the Robotech saga. As Rick acts like a jerk to Lisa, she decides to visit him on a rainy night. When she decides not to knock on Rick's door, Claudia invites her to her home. She tells Lisa her relationship with Roy. Way more like cats and dogs, her perserverence paid off and their romance grew until his death. Rick realises that Lisa has given him clues that she loves him. At the end, they walk towards Rick's home and drink tea on a rainy night.

He may be a great commander in combat with his air team, but he's horrible as a man when he can't distinguish between what is mere pretty wrapping (Minmei), and a true total package deal (Lisa). @zeroswings2 That plane is called the F203 Dragon II, which is not a Veritech but just an air superiority plane. The VF-0 Phoenix from Macross Zero looks pretty much like the VF-1. Also, the VF-0 does not exist in Robotech.

@zeroswings2 Due to a litigation between Studio Nue/Big West and Tatsunoko/HG several years ago, anything that can possibly be identified with Macross is now off limits for HG in any future works. Also, both the VF-0 and VF-1 are based on the F-14. The key difference between the two is that the VF-0 uses conventional turbofan engine while the VF-1 uses thermonuclear engine.

The one I saw when I was younger was the Japanese version dubbed in English by the local network. Then a competing local network aired Robotech but not the Macross Saga I think it was The Masters. They did not air the Macross version of Robotech because another network was already airing the original. Still brings memories of younger days. :D

Robotech is as much a wonderful soap opera as it is mecha anime. I think the combination of the two is so perfect, and it works so well blended like it is. This episode shows you how strong the writing is, that it can carry an entire episode with barely any fighting at all.

Hybridizing it into one coherent series is no different than any of the other adaptations U.S. animation companies have done to Japanese shows.
