Could I get a similar result if I use the standard lens that comes with the 550d?

I'm afraid not... I don't know what lens comes with the 550d, but for example, the Canon 85mm f/1.2L and 70-200mm f/2.8L MkII lenses are stupid expensive for a reason. Similar DOF can be achieved, but the depth and clarity of the image won't quite be there. Sorry to rain on your parade, but I gotta be honest with you.
