Marciano was a great fighter, great chin and determination, but an average modern day fighter would out-box him by a mile. in these days they only went for knock outs. That is also why many people prefer ufc to boxing, someone who knows nothing about boxing wants to see a knock-out, its only the people who understand boxing as an art appreciate a good jab and foot work and technique the rest just want to see that knock out. And if I remember correctly, that was in '63...long before Ali's pre-prime years (I say "pre" bcuz, truly, Ali was robbed of his prime) of 1965-67. The second fight he had against Cooper was a bloodbath. Also, Henry dropped him with a classic left hook (just like Fraizer did)...a punch that Ali was vulnerable against. @MyR0ach Funny, but when I was watching this I was thinking his technique was perfect. Short punches less than 8 inches so that he never lost balance. Small defensive movements that conserved energy and assured he was never drastically out of position. A style that put defense first, but didn't sacrifice much power - like a bigger, stronger Roberto Duran.

@2packylipsmeow I don't think anyones ever called him a boxer. He was a bruiser, brawler, bomber, slugger and he was the epitome of that. Just a truck. Willing to take a couple to give one good one. He said himself that when he had his opponent hurt he would throw skill and accuracy out the window and just start swinging for the fences. He had great finishing instincts. No he wasnt a boxer. But it's a safe argument to call him the greatest pugilist ever.

@MyR0ach Funny, but when I was watching this I was thinking his technique was perfect. Short punches less than 8 inches so that he never lost balance. Small defensive movements that conserved energy and assured he was never drastically out of position. A style that put defense first, but didn't sacrifice much power - like a bigger, stronger Roberto Duran.

My all time favourite boxer, but i am unbiased he wasn't the most technical boxer but he hit hard and was relentless his heart in the ring made up for it.
