The transfer that is still yet to beat is the amazing restoration on the French 2-disc special edition... The print is nearly flawless! However, the restoration got a little overzealous and ended up re-doing the opening credits and cutting out/replacing some of the most damaged shots with repeated footage... But that's like six seconds worth of alterations (not including the new credits font) in an otherwise amazing, vibrant, gorgeous print.

I saw an uncut version of this film (never saw a severely cut-up version). I don't know...sure it had its nudity, but had it looked more crisp in transfer, I would have just considered it the perfect historical film to watch if I wanted to see debauchery in Rome. Because honestly, who doesn't like hearing about the nutter Emperors they had time to time? Fall of the Roman Empire I would also recommend if you like that element in a film on Ancient Rome.
