The iPad comes with an internal GPS that will work anywhere in the world. The iPad GPS is a very good unit. We also install AIS-B units. This gives you both AIS and GPS... To get the signal to the iPad we use an iMux, which transmits the AIS/GPS data via WiFi. Your iPad will receive this using the 'adHoc" mode. This has been a very successful combination.
@tamacn3 I was at the mac store and the sales people said there is no internal GPS. WiFi or 3G was it.??? The reason I ask is I go where there is no WiFi or cell service. I also don't want to be carrying a bunch of other stuff to rely on. Thanks
Is there an internal GPS or does this use the cell or wifi only? What if you are 50 miles offshore? Does it still work like a moving map GPS?
