  • Is there an internal GPS or does this use the cell or wifi only? What if you are 50 miles offshore? Does it still work like a moving map GPS?

  • @airpilikia

The iPad comes with an internal GPS that will work anywhere in the world. The iPad GPS is a very good unit. We also install AIS-B units. This gives you both AIS and GPS... To get the signal to the iPad we use an iMux, which transmits the AIS/GPS data via WiFi. Your iPad will receive this using the 'adHoc" mode. This has been a very successful combination.

  • @tamacn3 I was at the mac store and the sales people said there is no internal GPS. WiFi or 3G was it.??? The reason I ask is I go where there is no WiFi or cell service. I also don't want to be carrying a bunch of other stuff to rely on. Thanks

  • @airpilikia Purchase the iPad with WiFi and 3G, it comes with GPS built in.

  • @tamacn3 Thanks.

  • Eggcellent Tom!
