A lot of people are upset that people are taking pictures instead of rescueing it. I'm pretty sure it died, then floated to the surface, then floated to shore, and finally was beached by the waves. If it was a live beached whale though all those people together couldn't budge it one inch.

well actually most whales are doomed from the begginging when they are beached. As the gravity has enough force to not only collapse their lungs but to break their tailbones.

Pilot whales are the worst for this and often beach in large numbers.

Way WAY too big to be a humpback. Almost twice as large as a good sized humpie and not a particularly large blue. Probably below average to average. It is unbelievable how huge blue whales are. Baby blues are over half as large as a humpie when they're born (about 25 ft!!).
