This is one of the greats showing us hams how it is really done. Don't pay attention to him leaving Extreme, big deal, lots of bands are together and then split (some only in one year!!). His style and song writing was and is amazing, his sound is easily recognizable and it stands the test of time. Keep rocking Nuno and please more videos! ...Rockin' in Edmonton, AB.
I think he has the biggest pinky finger I have ever seen in my life... although I don't usually pay attention to people's fingers... so I could be wrong. It's HUGEly long!
Backstreet boys? And stones? Both suck and don't deserve to be considered music. Sloppy guitar playing is lazy. Used to like nuno but he needs to lay off the drugs and spend more time practicing. Sloppy guitar doesn't mean feeling. It means ya suck.
Fully agree with his opening message. However, I think instructional videos, tablature, and so on are great if you're creative enough to figure out what's going on and then play it in a way that's more comfortable for you. For example, I learned Get The Funk Out from Nuno's vid, and I play it differently than he does. I use a different fretting for the leads in the chorus. I do it because my way is more comfortable for me. Same notes, better feel under my fingers.
@bmdshred77 His entire style is sloppy, it's meant to be that way. If you're trying to play his stuff 100% precise and on the beat and mechanically, you're doing it wrong. A little more stones, a little less backstreet boys, please! Also, if you can't hear the harmonics in the song to know where they are, I'm sorry for you. They're on the same frets he's playing here.
@DanOlooney - I saw him live a few years back opening for auf der maur I think it was, but anyways he came out all grunged/emo like a school kid! Was kinda embarassing.. painted fingernails, makeup and bad hair... was like the 80's stuck in the microwave.. He still did shred however in between the crappy catchy stuff
Nuno is funny. God, I thought his playing was good in the early 90s. Its good, but I'm glad that he has a sarcastic sense of humour about it now... because it was very close to "hair metal."
I agree with him 100% but I still clone him more than any Shrapnel guy as much as possible.....like the songwriting too much for all that noodling!!!!!!! Play it FOR the song, not just...
I agree with what he is saying about your own identity, but the fact is, I will *never* play as well as him whether he shows me or not. So throw a guy a bone Nuno, and show me how to come *close* :)
@thehowards6 The fact is..you're too lazy to be as good as him, lack determination, discipline and would rather sit and watch youtube videos instead of practicing. Talent is MADE not born, respect the determination these guys have to sit and practice day in and day out for hrs. "Genious is 1% inspiration and 99% PERSPIRATION"
I have played for 20 years, literally almost every day. I am decent, although impossibly far from where Nuno Bettencourt is.
At some point physical ability (or lack thereof) to play like these guys kicks in. That and a lack of time sealed my fate long ago. My guess is we feel the same way about these guys and enjoy them the same, you just seem a little angrier about it :)
Check out a guy named Cyamak Ashtiani, just type his name into the youtube search engine....seriously an INCREDIBLE guitarist.... Weird, unique, JAWDROPPING guitar playing.....you won't be disappointed
That's what I'm talking about, always! Just what he said - a musician has to Hear the song and try to get it right with his own style. I am a musician myself, and couldn't agree more. I never use tabs, I always listen to the song and try to learn it my way. Today's tutorials ARE helpful, don't get me wrong, but the old ways, old school ways have some charms and advances :)
nuno in the introduction says that if you don't want to be just a clone of the guitarists that you study, you only have to hear the sound of the guitar, without watching, because in this way you develop your own style ...i think that is the reason for which the camearman decides to be zoomed right out
@Confusememory I think it was just part of the editing process tbh to make the video look better, I doubt nuno would agree to do that then let them do that for the reason you said, he might as well say in that case "no I wont do a tip vid" I do respect what he says tho, the reason I wanna see it up close is simply because I have the music book somewhere and the particular part I was looking at is different in the book to how he plays it here as far as I can tell
This group was unfairly cast as "hair, glam" rock by the clones trying to sell "90's Power Ballads" cd's. Nuno was way ahead of the genre at that time as well as the rest of Extreme, all were crazy talented.
@XxLiveBaitxX they had glam elements such as the backing vocals and the pollished production but musically they were so much more interesting, I guess bassically you're saying that.lol Extreme owns!
I don't need the tabs for this but he could at least say what some of the chords are. I mean he knows how to say "this is a minor 7th" or "throw in the suspended 4th here" Right?
NUNO IS CLEARLY TOASTED. theres no doubt in my mind. the things hes saying along with the way hes saying them and his extremely glossy eyes just give it away.
@dokken447 are you kidding me? to be cool!?!? watch the video kid and you'll know what i'm talking about. theres no doubt his eyes are glossy and squinty. he's also acting pretty goofy too.
@Halocon If you get the treble bleed mod done on a N4, rolling back the volume knob on the bridge pickup will give you that semi-clean, semi-dirty tone.
funny is last sentence cause i think the reason i love this cd is cause he overplayied every song.....when he changed his style playing only few riffs i started to don t like him anymore....he was able to make melody in each riff of decadence cd thats why he is a genius betyter nthan van halen paul gilbert and guys like it!
"You become you own guitar player" I have to agree. I don't have a single tab book. Everything I ever learned I did it with my ears and my hands. I mean, I'm watching this video now, but I'm 38 and have been playing since I was 15. So I have developed my own sound already. Developing your ear is utterly important as a musician. If when you hear a riff or a song everything is a blur to you, you need to spend more time dissecting songs with your ears and hands instead of using a tab book
I miss the time when he overplayed the songs... :( Nuno is like a magician... U cant see his fingers even when hes playin slow riffs...he keep his hand in a very unique way.. almost as if he is hiding some Ace in his jacket you know.. Love the rythm in every nunos riff...even if the overall song isnt great...nuno always make it fun!!
Nuno and Antoine Dufour are two of the most show-us-their soul beings out there screaming from their voicing of their Instruments. (Many others too) Why we tend to hate-copy cats. Just reach within and DO YOUR OWN THING like our Jimi Hendrix sure did. Thanks for this message to all the magnificent musicians that want to be someone else. :-) Peace and Love to all. :-) The sustain and harmonic distortions wow-ing my Heart.;- I am using my own heart felt descriptions. :)
@RandomSpewBros2 I like taking my daughter to Wal-Mart and let her look at all the toys she can't have. She gets all upset and starts crying, then she asks me, "Daddy, why can't I have any of these toys?". I kneel down, look her straight in her big sad eyes and tell her honestly, " Because your mother is a fucking slut sweetie, your mother is a fucking slut"
Nuno is just busting your balls. He has a kind of dry sarchasm that I dig. He can also be a bit self depricating at times, which shows he's not too into himself. He is a nice guy. He talked to my wife and I on the phone once and was gold.
@FeelingShred Hahahah yeah man I hate that, like whenever people are talking to me and I don't know them all that well I'll say a stupid joke that'll make me sound like a jerk.
I did not read him as cocky but confident. He seemed to be kind joking more than serious. Just seemed to me like he was having alittle fun at something he really does not believe in that being showing you exactly how to do it his way. He wants you to be your own guitar player. I would agree. Too many clones out there.
@rwmcjazz I've practically just picked up a guitar, i've picked up alot but with Nuno's music i find very hard to figure out what notes his playing purely because he doesn't play in standard tuning and he's too damn fast lol Even looking on here i'm not learning anything coz you can't clearly see where his fingers are so now it's simply a guessing game, im either precise or very close and therefore not really able to clone not that i want to :)
@MrUSAJAY You dont care? then why the fuck did you answer Numbnuts? People like you make me laugh. "I dont care i dont care" yet you reply back. Fucking loser.
@MrUSAJAY You are retarted man zero relevance in the guitar world? You are an idiot. Am asuming you are one of those fags who think "shredding" is more important than riffing, Nuno has alot of sarcasm of course you cant tell because you are a jelous asshole. Peace!
For those who want to really learn, he focus on main point! He isn't scared that someone will take his riffs, or something like that. He gave us the most with this at beginning.
Hes not full of himself(despite the fact that he does have the right to be).. He is just joking around.. Give him a break, he is aloud to have some personality. Now Yngwie, thats a different story..
Nuno states from the start that he is making a hypocrite of himself, and then continues to do so. It seems some people misinterpret his self-deprecation for cockiness. Although he is obviously quite confident.

Damn he looks like Death doesn't he? Some humility is in order too. Maybe the 2 are connected. Now I know how Extreme turned into a pile of shit

@MrUSAJAY What is going back to the 80`s have to do with it? you sir are by far the most retarted asshole to ever leave a comment on youtube.

@MrUSAJAY You dont care? then why the fuck did you answer Numbnuts? People like you make me laugh. "I dont care i dont care" yet you reply back. Fucking loser.
jair333 1 year ago
@MrUSAJAY You are retarted man zero relevance in the guitar world? You are an idiot. Am asuming you are one of those fags who think "shredding" is more important than riffing, Nuno has alot of sarcasm of course you cant tell because you are a jelous asshole. Peace!

Excellent!
For those who want to really learn, he focus on main point! He isn't scared that someone will take his riffs, or something like that. He gave us the most with this at beginning.
vllado2 1 year ago
lol, the first 2 minutes, he's like:
"I don't like doing this at all...I never wanted to show you my riffs. I'm just doing it for the money." :-D

LOl. I think Nuno has a thing for fly's... every time I watch a Nuno clip, he is catching fly's. Funny:)

What is the heaviest work of Nuno (funk Metal and etc)? Can Anyone recommend me? Thanks.

the sarcasm.. i think he played this riffs one time to many for his part..
maybe its time for you (nuno) to do something new and exciting instead of playing the some old stuff over and over again..
other then this, amazing guitar player!!!

He isn't full of himself. He is trying to offer great advice for guitarists. He tells you not to watch it. How much more humble can you be?

Gotta love Nuno Bettencourt. Man can play a mean guitar.
And good advice on 'doing it your own way', too. I like that.

He deserves to be full of himself even though I dont consider that he is like that in this video. He is smart and a really sick guitar player.

So, he's earned it.
Violencedefined666 1 year ago
To be fair, if I could play guitar like Nuno I'd probably be a little bit full of myself too.
Also, did anybody else scream "TRYING SO HAAAAAARD TO KEEP UUUUP WITH THE JONESES" at 3:02 ? No? OK then.

@rapidtranq Nuno full of himself? You completely interpreted what he said differently from me.
