Great show, the woman are portrayed as complete fucking morons though, Karen is a silly cow to be honest. I wish my girlfriend was that dumb, she lets Hank fuck any chick he sees and still she makes him breakfast and harbours dreams of them getting back together. Ofcourse they are estranged but she doesn't even consider seeing anyone else. All I mean is that I think that women should be treated with more respect than is shown in this outstanding drama but I guess it's just a tv show.

@dunkelfier Everything he does has consequences- serious ones. Despite how much he comes off as the coolest guy ever, he also totally screws up his life multiple times as a result of his own actions. Other characters do the same. This creates much irony and comedic tension. Creative people are tumultuous and impulsive, and we can't help it. It's refreshing to find a show that doesn't pretend personality flaws can be fixed as easily as a car engine.

@dunkelfier Well I enjoy this show because it is different than all the other cheesy shows out there right now. Yeah the guy has incredibly terrible habits but atleast it's real. The world has people like this; there's no fluff or easy way out. Californication is just a nice little show portraying how life really is and how one guy is trying to fix his problems and put his family back together. As for the entertainment aspect, the writing/acting is just brilliant.

I wouldn't have a problem with the show (actually, I don't really have a problem with it anyway) if it was making fun of this person and basically portraying him as a hopeless moron, but instead, it makes him into a guy who sleeps around and does drugs, and makes him the protagonist doing so. It's like the girls on My Super Sweet 16. Spoiled and conceited, yet portrayed as being 'cool'.

Not all people like that have to be "hopeless morons", I believe everyone deserves a second chance. He has good intentions but like you said that still doesnt justify his other actions. When it really comes down to it, it is just a show and we all have our own opinions.
