I will never tire of watching the Live at Heaven dvd .. and I will never give it up. Earliest Eurythmics concert I have and I enjoy both versions of this song .. this one tops Heaven by justhismuch .. the Glasgow bootleg is perfection as well ..
Great early performance, Clems' drumming is nice & tight. Thought I saw Sherlock Holmes dancing around 2:55. Christ I'll have to lay off the beer, I'm seeing things!
@doublemandala Not necessarily in terms of "defining a genre", but to some extent, both - 'Sweet Dreams' and 'Touch' albums, do have a significant influence on later house-music sound.
However, the lyrics and the title of this song seem to refer more to struggle and sort-of domestic violence than 'house' music :)
This live performance owes pretty much to Talking Heads (especially when you hear those cheesy keyboards :) which are quite 'Stop Making Sense' - although this Eurythmics shot was taken earlier :)) - Anyway, 'This Is the House' should have been a far bigger hit than a spooky obscure single of the day... This particular song is one of their finest early numbers and it is a shame they never made an official video for this song.

The opening line which is sung in Spanish is basically loosely translated as:
"THIS IS THE HOUSE....THIS IS THE HILL....THIS IS THE STORY....ITS A LITTLE THING"

"esta es la casa, este es el cerro, esta la historia, es algo chiquitito" mean?

That there is Eddi Reader giving backing vocals in the cast off dress. Or "Ever Ready" as she was known at the time. Go see wikipedia.
But who is that keyboard player? I can offer him a good home. Cute.
doctorharryyogurt 3 years ago
Keyboard player was Mickey Gallagher I think!!!
kungfugirl2007 3 years ago
I have a recording from the Wechter festival (3-7-83) on which Vic Martin was the keyboard player. Could he be the one in the video?
GRO67 3 years ago
@GRO67 The keyboard player is Mickey Gallagher from Ian Dury and the Blockheads! This was the live band line-up for the "Sweet Dreams" album tour.

i still have that video of the heaven gig. her voice was not at all good on most of the live tracks on that gig.

... and isn't the singer wearing Annie's dress from the cover of "In the Garden" with some extra sewn on it?? ;-)
(still like this version a lot, super vibes... gut-wrenching sounds wonderful up-tempo - thanks to all who made this possible!)
