You see, I'm working on one of those as well and the problem with them is that the magnets get atracted to each other at the + and - side when rotating. I think with a bit of material to counteract the magnetic field you could build one that works more efficiently.

@wyrrox Yeah. You can "counteract" a magnetic field with a piece of FERROUS sheet metal! THAT will block the attraction between the two magnets stopping the rotation.

But guess what!!! The METAL ITSELF will be attracted to the magnets and interfere further.

Why not just find a piece of Cavorite and deflect gravity while you're at it?

There is a magnetic shielding materialcalled MUMETAL, it is also offered as a folia of 0,1mm thickness. Try to cover those spaces which offer resistance when turning the wheel and it should run for ever!

You forget to realize something. The energy in coal is a stored energy. You harness it by releasing that energy untill it is used up. Your concept of magnetic fields is that they can magically create energy from nothing. Energy is never created or destroyed it simply moves and changes form.

Magnets have been around for study for a very long time. Hell mankind has been playing with magnets since before our current scientific methods came into existance. Ever since iron was used in making swords and spears certain rocks where noticed as being able to gently pull on them. Yes. We may know about magnets, but tell me what a magnetic field is. Tell me more about how it works. What is it made up of if anything? This will not work nomatter how you configure the magnets. To move repelling magnet closer together requires more force than is created in allowing them to move apart again. Tilting them as you have done does not change this fact. If it is possible to gain energy using magnets (just letting you know I dont think it is) then it would have to be done the way a gauss gun works.

Its simply impossible to generate energy from nothing. And I have been trying to figure it out myself. But you need to realize something. There is allready a more than suffecient supply of energy currently in existance to meet our needs for thousande of years. My goal is to find a better way to harness it. I have been working on a way to put solar panels in place above the clouds and transmit the power down to the ground. I have allready made some progress. But high altitude wind complicates it.

To transmit the power back down currently the only method we have would be in the form of micro waves. The closer to the surface the panels are the less danger the microwaves pose. and just above the clouds is the minimum hight required for it to be worth doing at all. But think about this. If one magnet pushes another magnet in the direction of yet another magnet and all 3 are repelling eachother each equally strong to the next. The repulsion of the first will not overcome the repulsion next.

No indeed magnetic fields are quite strong, but thats the problem. See the strength of the magnetic field is equall on both sides of the magnet. The force gained as the magnets move apart is equal to the force lost as they moved closer together. You cannot gain energy in this manner. You cannot produce energy with this device. Have you ever taken a harddrive apart? (the older ones had bigger magnets) In them are 2 powerful magnets, that (sometimes weakly glued) are on a metal bracket. Now the magnets are attracted to these brackets but the brackets do not become magnetic themselves, or let the pole that is attached to it, to go anywhere it seems. Maybe the material of the brackets could dampen, or help isolate selective poles of magnets. just enough.Kinda like a washer(of bracketmaterial) in the middle of the magnets

Even if the metal "dampens" the magentic field I would assume you would have to move them out from between the magnets at some point to change the strength of the field. I guess thats what you where going for? At any rate moving that material in and out from between the magnets would use more energy than it would save.
