  • John Steinbeck, in his book "Travels With Charlie", wrote about this very thing. Makes sense. Now we need to find a way to use engine warm the water for washing.

  • Agitate. All you need ;)

  • You really need agitation to really clean them. That's where you either need to use a washing machine, or scrub board. What with todays vehicles, you have a smooth ride with little jarring and such, so the clothes don't get as clean as a machine.

  • @genenco1 Tranverse movement caused by round abouts and general turning will provide agitation. The car doesnt have to bounce to create agitation. The water will constantly move.

  • Thank you for this video! I just LOVE your site, its full of lots of helpful information. just to let you know that they now have a manual hand crank washing machine called the Wonder Wash - it sells for $50 US dollars and is the same concept you are doing here only it takes 3 minutes to wash. I also had a question... you mentioned a good source of light was an LED bar light... can you tell me where to find it? searched online but I'm having a hard time finding it - THANK YOU sooo much :)

  • you just be better to wash them in some creek or river then that way me i fined if you have enough clothes to fill i large duffel or landry basket witch is one load just its easyer just do one laod a week at the landry mat me im a small gie i can do the bedding and my weeks suply of clothing in one load then carring extra junk around i don't need or bother cleaning that just atracts bugs

  • Speaking of hanging clothes to dry , do you find that non cotton c.lothing dries faster than cotton clothing?

  • If you live in your car, and drive to and from work, it makes sense to wash your clothing in your car. It saves money. Not all car and van dwellers stay in one spot. Aso, for people who camp in a van on their travels, this is another option.

I've never heard of a laundry mat that has washes for $2.50 not even in the 70s.

  • I'm sorry, but why would you need to wash your clothes in your car? In the video you stated to dry your clothes, you could go to a laundromat, so why would I wash them in my car, then take them to a laundromat to dry? I mean, for $2.50 I could just wash and dry them at the laundromat instead of taking the chance of ruining my car with spilled soapy water. Not to mention, it's probably cheaper to just spend $2.50 at the laundry, then gas money driving around for 30 min. to agitate the water.
