I don't know how old you are but I can remember watching this program from 1953 when I was 7 and it was on late Saturday night, until it ended in probably very early 1959 by which time it had moved to 7:30 Friday nights. This closing marked the end of an era.
The average TV of that time had a little 4" speaker. How did you get such good sound quality?
Your Hit Parade not only moved from Saturday night, but swiched to CBS for its final season, after its long run on NBC. The 58-59 season featured Dorothy and Johnny Desmond. The format was very different with the songs presented in medleys and guests singing their own hits.
Dorothy was the greatest singer. This is ,beautiful. We saw her a few times in summer revivals of Sound of Music,Ballroom. She was fantastic.Wow.great.Of course,we all loved her in the smash Soundheim show -71-72-Follies,wow.She played the role of Sally Plummer-what a role,it was magic.I still remember it today.I see that she died quite young, very sad,but we have these great clips of her, and,i see, there are new released cd's of her coral record work in the stores.her Picnic album is awsome..
