I have never used blocks in competition before, and only 3 times in training. But each time I have used it in training I've knocked 0.3 off my start (which is loads considering it's 60m Hurdles) and I have National Champs next weekend at Birmingham. I really want to use blocks there, but I'm not sure. I'm doing an open at the NIA tomorrow and I'd like to use blocks if I'm going to use them next weekend. Also, if I was to knock 0.3 off my PB I would be ranked 1st in the UK so I really want to!
@TwinFraser I'm only U15 so it's not compulsory! We're actually not allowed to use them in the heats or semi's. But I used them at an open last weekend and managed to run 8.92 so I'm definitely using them in the finals (provided I get though!) this weekend! Thank-you very much :)
I don't agree with the start. I'm right footed but my left leg is forward, because I jump better off of my left foot, which I believe most right-footed people do as well. Also, I think your front block should be 1.5 feet from the line and the weak block 1 foot behind that.
Im a hurdler but I dont use blocks at the moment if I did this way of starting it looks as though I would not be able to get my head up in time to sight the first hurdle?
Haha. Thanks for the advice! I saw this video yesterday, Friday, and I had a track meet today, Saturday. And because of this advice for the starts, I improved both my 100m and 200m dashes by at least 2 seconds! Thanks!
His start has one part, which is not good. When he pushes himself out of the blocks, the first leg should be completely stretched, and it's not... Is it understandable? -I'm not that good at english.
@MegaNinja16 It's not supposed to be in full lenght in the starting position, but you should push on, until the leg is stretched, when the gun has went off.
@alanmonty06 well thats not true both legs will never be exactly the same strength just as with your arms, one arm will always be stronger than the other, Im not saying that there will be a dramatic difference in the strength of the legs but there will be a difference
2 feet to the front block and a further foot back to the rear block is pretty standard. I also thought it looked a bit too far back when I saw it but I got myself into the position and it felt right.

@CharlotteWilliams06 if you are competing in the NIA surely you will have to use blocks anyway. and also good luck with your competition :)

@jako4410 no it shouldnt you would loose all your power if your leg is already at its full length it cant go any farther so you cant push off

@145bobby yes blacks are faster then whites. just look at 98% of all 100m finals only involve blacks. :D. I GOT PROOF
junmun123 2 years ago
This is wrong.. you do not want to have alot of sapce, if you have to much space all the power will get nowere.

The instruction from the decathlete was excellent. However, the sprinting form of some of the sprinting cartoon characters was poor.
