this happens in Vegas. particularly ambulance/firetrucks, mostly in the evenings. they're going at the same speed or slower than everyone else with their lights on. then when they get to the intersection they turn on the siren.... slowly move through then turn off the siren and continue cruising at a moderate speed making half of us miss the light...
paramedics/firefighters/cops in general are assholes with the personality of a doorknob.

Most emergency vehicles that turn on lights/sirens when they get to a stop sign, or light are on their way to a call but it isn't Code 3 so there is no need to get their as quickly as they can. No they don't just use their lights because they don't want to stop cause they're lazy.. But nice try.

what 'nice try'? I stated a consistently, observable fact in which the general population here in Vegas gripes about often. Like myself, so many here are transplants from other big cities and it's one of the first things they come to notice after being here for a time. If this happens in L.A., which I don't doubt, then it is far less frequent/prevalent than here in Vegas because I didn't start getting pissed off about it until I moved here.

Having been to jail before I have found the only people who hate cops and think they are all corrupt are people who have been arrested before. I never understood cons who cry about police. you shouldn't rush to judgement..in my county there's 1 cop for every 5600 citizens sometimes we don't even have time to eat..I'm sure you take your breaks at work and your lunch at the same time all the time..we don't..if there's a call guess what?..and not all calls get answered code 3 (lights and sirens), some calls require for you to get ASAP..and dispatch is on the radio every 4 minutes asking for an update so you can go to the next call..so if there's no one in danger yes we run the light.

You think that's terrible, I have seen worse. Like Police always cross red lights and stop signs in their cars and speed like hell in residential areas where I live. Once when I was driving, a police car put it's sirens and lights on behind me, so I pulled over. The only thing is he went around me (in the wrong lane) and then he turned his sirens and lights off and continued on his way, probably to a Dunkin Donuts or something. Damn cops think theyr're God or something.
