I & my husband both worked from our teens on, he served 10 yrs. in the army. He's worked with the mentally challenged, troubled youth & as a security guard receiving numerous awards & letters but rarely making more than $8. an hr. Yet he never had employee health care offered & in Ky. only people out of work with minor children or receive SSI get Medicaid.

I am a single full-time working mother as well. The CHEAPEST insurance I can find is $537 a month. How is this affordable when I make $1,000 a month. Rent is $700 for a 1bd 1bath apt. Food per month for my daughter and I is about $400 depending on coupons. Electricity is $84 (very low because I go without) I have no cable, no phone, and no going out or dating. So someone please tell me how this works out for the single working mom when my husband died in Iraq and through no fault of my daughters
@karma2x Check with your local health department. Different states have different rules. They can be used as your primary care (dental too) and your billing is based on your income. Most areas allow you to pay when you can if you had an emergency. The typical bill for a physical with immunizations is about $20. Insurance is not affordable and it will never be until we all cancel our policies. Then the dominoes will fall and health care becomes affordable.

That is why this health care crisis is coming to a head in the economic downturn. Many people don't have jobs or are underemployed. Tax credits, which are not refundable and never will be, to people who have little to no income is useless. Jenkins was sidestepping the issue with rhetoric that depended on the woman with the child not knowing what she was saying was untrue.

Yet bureaucrats want to force me to buy insurance. Healthcare Reform is not Republican nor Democrat. It's not a political issue but a social issue, but so is employment, education and pursuit of happiness. To insure about 10 million who don't have ANY access to healthcare, you don't need to sacrifice everybody's access to secure employment, achievable education and the ability to reach financial success. Those who want real universal coverage should go to Cuba where healthcare is the great "carrot."

My grandfather worked his entire life. From 16 untill 63..At 20 he was in a major acident that basically left him bionic with so much metal in him..and the last 8 or so years towards the end his body began to shut down on him..He was a truck driver..He failed his DOT test and was forced to get off the road..just a few years of retirement..and guess what, He was unable to collect retirement money..Now my grandparents only get 1500 bucks a month between both of them to live in.Complete garbage.

I & my husband both worked from our teens on, he served 10 yrs. in the army. He's worked with the mentally challenged, troubled youth & as a security guard receiving numerous awards & letters but rarely making more than $8. an hr. Yet he never had employee health care offered & in Ky. only people out of work with minor children or receive SSI get Medicaid.

A few years ago I was going out with a single mother who had a stunning daughter. By 14 she was fully developed- great boobs, bum, pretty face- the whole package.
We used her to blackmail my boss- we went for a drink after work where she met me & proceeded to flirt outrageously with him. I played dumb, said goodnight & left them to it.

I am a single full-time working mother as well. The CHEAPEST insurance I can find is $537 a month. How is this affordable when I make $1,000 a month. Rent is $700 for a 1bd 1bath apt. Food per month for my daughter and I is about $400 depending on coupons. Electricity is $84 (very low because I go without) I have no cable, no phone, and no going out or dating. So someone please tell me how this works out for the single working mom when my husband died in Iraq and through no fault of my daughters

@karma2x Check with your local health department. Different states have different rules. They can be used as your primary care (dental too) and your billing is based on your income. Most areas allow you to pay when you can if you had an emergency. The typical bill for a physical with immunizations is about $20. Insurance is not affordable and it will never be until we all cancel our policies. Then the dominoes will fall and health care becomes affordable.

Jenkins mentions "tax credits" to help buy insurance. Although the largest demographic of the un-insured is the un-employed. That is why this health care crisis is coming to a head in the economic downturn. Many people don't have jobs or are underemployed. Tax credits, which are not refundable and never will be, to people who have little to no income is useless. Jenkins was sidestepping the issue with rhetoric that depended on the woman with the child not knowing what she was saying was untrue.

It seemed like she was trying to keep things light because she could sense how hostile the crowd was, and she knew she was being recorded. Yet bureaucrats want to force me to buy insurance. And what will you do if someday you and your supremely healthy body are hit by a bus? Or an uninsured motorist, or a tree falls on you...or a tornado slams into your home? Without health insurance, you have to pay those bills you are going to rack up...just living a healthy lifestyle does NOT mean you do not need health insurance. Can you really afford to pay full price for a visit to the emergency room or a stay in the hospital for injuries suffered in an accident? What savings will be left?

yes, i have a good job with health insurance, but my brother has a chronic illness, he still works but has to pay $600 a month for ins., it all depends on which side of the coin you are on. If you have healtn insurance at cheap cost , sure you dont wont things to change. But if you are disadvantaged, it is damn tough. She is just a puppit of the Republicans. To insure about 10 million who don't have ANY access to healthcare, you don't need to sacrifice everybody's access to secure employment, achievable education and the ability to reach financial success. You speak of the Christian concept of charity, which is VOLUNTARY giving. If she doesn't have a health insurance, she will avoid going to the hospital until she or the son is gravely ill, and then she will end up Emergency room which costs three times more, hospital can not reject her based on her inability to pay, and then the tax payers will pick up the tab, it is still free healthcare.

We need more accessible healthcare, but we have 2 opposing views on it. Republicans are for free market reforms (ie. consumer choice drives competition while govt. intervention screws it) and democrats are for govt. intervention (free market hasnt worked, ignoring interventions already involved or upholding the involvement). Both sides are right, and wrong. Something needs to happen, people do suffer through no fault of their own. But I also do not trust the govt. to run it correctly.

Oh I could buy other things but insurance is so important,thats why I never ,never missed a child support payment ,and kept insurance on my child till she was 18 years old! I agree we need to help those in need, however it is not the government's job. My family donated a over half a million dollars two years ago to charities, but with Obama's taxes, we have only been able to donate a tenth of that. Just putting it that out there.... My grandfather worked his entire life. From 16 untill 63..At 20 he was in a major acident that basically left him bionic with so much metal in him..and the last 8 or so years towards the end his body began to shut down on him..He was a truck driver..He failed his DOT test and was forced to get off the road..just a few years of retirement..and guess what, He was unable to collect retirement money..Now my grandparents only get 1500 bucks a month between both of them to live in.Complete garbage.
