The japs knew very well when and where the russian fleet was coming, whenever the russians stopped at foreigh ports to refuel, foreign agents sent telegraphs to tokyo.
Jerzy Wołkowicki was one of two Polish generals who survived Katyń massacre. NKVD officers pushed Him out of van (They knew who He was). At the end of Tsushima battle J.W. railed younger officers against capitulation and demanded to use all ammo, then blow up ship and escape.
A few years ago, I read admiral Rozhestvensky's granddaughter's interview in the newspapaer.
According to her, during the battle Rozhestvensky was wounded and captured, so he was sent to Japan. When in the hospital, Togo personally visited him and honored his courage.
Rozhestvensky finally lived to be 60 back in Russia, not to mention, he was severely condemned for the result of this battle, but she, even today, thanks to Togo for his kindness bestowed onto her grandfather.
My (great, great) uncle Togo-san clearly had the home-court advantage. He brilliantly exploited it by not giving the Russian fleet to a chance to reach Vladivostok to refuel and refit. Any fleet that sailed 18000 miles to meet the enemy must have been at a disadvantage in terms of wear and tear on both the men and equipment. Nonetheless, it is one of the great naval victories of all time and ultimately doomed the Czar's grip on power.
Who rude putting in that bolsgvik music in tribute to the Imperial fleet it would have been better to insert God save the Tzar. After all it was Lenin's treason that murdered members of my family
@Klemahun ah yes, the utterly naive and ineffective Romanov dynasty of Nichloas II, which saw Russia go from a World power to an economically destroyed and militarily weak nation within 20 years. Long Live Admiral Kolchak! White Russian Power!
In the beginning before the WW II , the jap should never think about to create wars against other countries, then the blood war history will be re-written. If the jap now thinks about wars with other countries again, same bloody history will be written again to their country. The bloody history will be re-written is :: total failure again and will be punished with more death to their people. so never invite wars with other countries, dont be overconfident!!!and dont be invaders any time!!!
Is there any clue to the name of any one of those ships? In one or two photos I seem to recognize the Avrora and the Prince Potemkin, but I may well wrong. I like very much the ships of that time. There is still one of that epoch, in the USA: the Olympia. It is made a museum and in perfect state on dock.
I've often wondered if the Russians might have done better to leave Nebogatov's squadron ol older shtps (the 3rd Pacific Squadron) behind. . .and to have tried to pass the Korea Straits at night, each ship instructed to just keep going whatever happened, each vessel trying to reach Vladivostok independently. Some of the fleet, including at least a few battleships, might have stood a chance of making it that way.
@dajefemax It was clearly a mistake to attach even older, slower ships and bring the fleet speed down even more. Togo's fleet were almost twice as fast, and completely dictated the battle. Even if they'd run straight for port, chances are Togo would just catch and destroy them in detail anyway. The Russians lost the moment they set out with few resources or friendly ports. Blowing up those Hull trawlers on the way didn't help morale either.
@willembrock Thank you, this is an epic video, great choice of music. May be interesting to mention the ship that kept firing while it sank, now that was some bravery.
If admiral Rozhestvenski used possibilities of "Ural" cruiser he could have a chance to win battle. I just don't want to say nothing bad about dead man. But I hope I'm clear.

Only a dreamy Euro like Brock would claim there was anything "noble" about dying in a hopeless ambush like Tsushima. Napoleon was so right when he famously described Euro peasant-soldiers as "cannon fodder". But at least N. was a brilliant General & didn't lead his peasants into any ambushes. Rozdiestvensky was an incompetent & corrupt piece of crap who DID get ambushed. US Genl Geo Patton (named after Ugly George) sez: "There's no good in dying 4 your country, only in making your enemy DIE!

The pictures are mainly of the Borodino class battleships. The battleship Navarin and the Ushakov class "flatiron) battleships are also there.

The russian fleet was worn down by the long voyage, and they were demoralised due to the imperial political system. The outcome was obvious.
