very cute.. but please don't let them jump down from objects.. it just takes one jump for a doxie to slip a disk in their back.. always lift them down.. could be why she doesn't want to jump, her back could hurt..
Dachshund puppies need to be crate-trained to learn where to go do their thing. I had one puppie that stayed with a golden retriever when I was at work and pocci (pinoccio) learned from him. I adopted 3-year-olds that were housebroken when I got them; what a relief. Dachshunds will copy what people do, and well, adults do some things in the house we want them to do outside. The dog sees no logic in that.
Dachsunds are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.
Adult dachshunds are like 8-week-old dachshunds. They don't grow up. Just because you tell them to do something doesn't mean they'll do it unless they see something they want that coincides with what you want. If we wanted obedient dogs we'd get golden retrievers.
mine has ruined my carpet :(.. I wish there was something that works good on pee stains. I will take him to go pee right before bed, and when I wake up next day theres a damp area on the rug. I take away the water bowl at night time which helps a little, but its really hard. I might have to carpet clean
1st: open veranda door, 2nd: give command: go pee..(pointing into the garden)..and our two rascals will go and do so....unless it rains, then they will have to be carried out into the garden, will have to be put down and picked up up to be carried back into the house after the job is done ..
@MyInvisibleEye Thank you! :) We have FOUR adorable sausages now lounging on the sofa as we adopted another two who needed new homes...Will try post a new clip soon of the four of them: Hansi (3), Pinda (6) Angie (2) and Snoopy (6).
i guess i am lucky coz my Doxie never peed and mess inside the house, i think he knows how to control the urge, my grandma has very loud voice and she will always scold my doxie before when he's still a pup everytime he mess, and now i guess he had learned, lol, every morning if he wants to pee he would just bark and bark and bark until we get the msg. he "pooes" 3x a day, he is really trained. but the stubborn issue is an not an exception.
Oh, my god you're talking way too much! No wonder they're ignoring you. All you need to do is tell them once and if they don't move, you move them yourself.
Mine would pee if i tried to make her move. No muevete nunca por el tiempo fria o uvioso. I watched D.W. also but only saw one epi close to my situation. Cesar does use a sound tst or something so I made up one that works for me I say "chop chop" Reluctantly she obeys and goes out.
@scottswan They considered one of the most difficult breeds to house train yes! Even after having Hansi neutered, he still marks chair legs and his favorite leg - my piano's legs! Those special sprays also don't deter him from leaving his signature where ever he wants to leave it. *sigh*
Fortunately they much more obedient now as I've become a more skilled Sausage-Owner after watching and learning from The Dog Whisperer's television program!
My only problem is when it's cold outside...they HATE peeing outside when it's cold and would postpone it as long as doggiely possible :)

My black & tan will go outside in the a.m. with no problem... but he won't pee there...He is pad trained and will wait until he comes back inside to relieve himself. Occasionally he will go on the pad we put outside but that is an exception more than the rule. So the pad training was fairly quick and easy - but now how do I teach him the 'real' goal is to always go outside ? The poor little guy is gonna get so confused (the previous owner pad trained him - which I'm not such a fan of - now)
@otony10 Good luck!! Doxies are incredibly stubborn & most are never fully house broken. I got Sophie at 12 weeks for Christmas. I tried everything to break her from the potty pad. Taking her out every hour, buying a stick that goes in the ground & smells like pee, potty pad outside, housebreaking spray, rewarding with treats if she went outside. Let her inside & she went on the floor. Frustrating. But I still love her all the same. Just more cleaning the house.
o.o Mine does that too~ Silly dogs~ Mine if you give a low tone she will roll over submissively~ xD Cuz she thinks shes in trouble and I always go, "Awww broken dog!"
Lol i just pick up my baby girl

don't let them "deny", 1st ask, 2nd command, 3rd "grab" and DO it. Doing such a ritual only keeps them denying you.
