  • You gotta be kidding me...that was a great shot of a 757 engine !!!

  • why does it look like the cone is spinning in the opposite direction?

  • why do they have the spiral bit on the cone in the middle?

  • @infernodood3 i think its so that people on the ground will know the engine is running

  • gotta love rb211s

  • ATA AIRLINES ARE OUT OF BUSINESS NOW?

  • yes more than one year

  • What the heck... why is the nose cone rotating opposite the fan blades?

  • It's an illusion created by the camera, known as "temporal aliasing".

  • No its the effect of the camera, When you watch racing on TV sometimes you notice the wheels appear to be going backwards the same way. Its to do with the framerate I believe.

  • lol it dont look like an optical illusion.

  • exactly ;)

  • lol. that freaked me the hell out. LOL.

  • the cone contra rotates from the the fanblades

  • Is the engine just windmilling? If not and why is the maine fan rotating?

  • generators, are spinning because its soon to depart and it would be quicker to start up engines.

  • So the engine is just warming up for a quicker start-up. Correct?

  • it also provides electricity so the plane doesnt have to use the ground APU.

  • I thought that airliners have an APU in the tail end of the plane to provide electricity for engine startup. Well it depends on ground operations.

  • i think thats the APU exhaust at the back. but theres a reason for the jets to be slowly spinning. i fink its to generate some electricity or warm up the engines.

  • incorrect - what you're seeing on this video is the so called "windmilling" the fanblades are simply turned by the wind - nothing more -

Most airliners rely on their APU to provide electricity on the ground and bleed air for starting up the engines

  • Where do you think the lights come from, the controlled heating, the power to even start the engines.. the APU (Auxiliary power unit) is also used to provide a small amount of power in the event of engine failure. On the ground, it is purely the wind turning the turbines...

  • i got slightly dizzy but fine :)

  • So sad to see these birds have to go...

  • ATA is bankrupt as well as skybus and aloha airlines

  • someday ill restart ata airlines someday just somebody tell them not to get rid of any planes

  • Can you make me VP of ATA, when the day comes? lol

  • sure free flights for u

  • hey that engine is going backwoards

  • No it's not, it's going clockwise which is right for a Rolls-Royce RB211-535E4 engine, all other makes go anti-clockwise

  • how do u get on the tarmac i wana get on the tarmac on lax

  • well id hop ofer the fence or find a gate going onto the tarmac

  • whas that engine windmiling?

  • Yes it was.

  • LOL dude. Love it. Im worried about the ticking noise it making, As it going round.
