by the way if you read her books ,you will find out that is something really from God. She write like a small light guiding us in a big light that is the bible . With no school at all, because she was sick most of her life. She wrote amazing things about history that matches perfectly with the Bible. Also she wrote prophecies that really happened. that is no reason to be hateful, unless the enemy that persecute the church ...
@plainjanesmith then your church has 2 problems 1 they uphold a prophet outside of the Bible and 2 they disobey that prophet who said IN The PULPIT only the Bible--not her should be perached
@JesusIsEnough777 Let's be reasonable about this shall we. One we don't see a conflict with Ellen White. We feel she meets all the biblical tests of a true prophet of God. And secondly, she simply means don't preach from her writings in the pulpit (The occasional quote is fine like most other pastors from other denominations do) But the Word of God is RICH and DEEP and all the Christian truly need when someone preaches to the people.
honestly i have problems with reading always did so i always been picky got huge library of religious and philosophy books and etc but i never read EGW intil well 2 years ago i think , usely Bible when felt i could read and keep my attention to it cause that to me most important reading matrial .
and growing up in SDA church and well i always asked question no matter how stupid they seemed and well they all hold Bible first use EGW to understand Bible more
@matthewchachi Ellen White's commentaries on scripture are simply that, he thoughts on scripture. And after I read the Bible for myself a couple of times, and then started reading and investigating E.White's writings, I came to many of the same conclusions she did. But the Lord did use her in other ways that we can't claim such as with the visions (which again are to be tested by scripture)
as i said started reading egw comparing with Bible and all does explain what bible already says least so far of what i read and compared enough to make want read egw more see another opinion or mind that followed God to her best abilaty
I don't think you understand. Noone is saying the occasional quote or explanation from SOP cannot be used in the pulpit.(At least not I). I'm simply saying what Ellen White said. The Bible is RICH with truth, preach it, live it, breathe it. And we're not saying ONLY read from the bible word for word and nothing else. Pastors can expund yes but there is danger in that too when human theories/interpretation get mixed with Bible meanings when the Bible itself explains itself so well and plain.
Did you not read her council in Prophets and Kings p 626. "The words of the Bible and the Bible alone, should be heard from the pulpit."
I love Sister Whites council, but there is no need to carry her writings when the pastor preaches to the congregation on Sabbath morning. Any other times, seminars, speakings etc is fine. God's word is really all we need and God gave us the testimonies of Sis White because the Bible IS neglected. (Her own words)
I would agree with you Sleanos. However, I will point out that when it comes to grounded Adventists, Adventists who are grounded in the faith should have no problem if you quote Sister White to them in order to help them in a certain area. That's what "Counsels for the Church" are. But when we are teaching doctrines, or when we are preaching to new people, it must be sustained from the Bible and the Bible alone.
Agreed. Nothing wrong with the occasional quote. However when a church preaches nothing or mostly Sister White says this and Sister White says that, then it can be problematic when the Bible is RICH with truth and should be our main focus.
@sleanos But unfortunately in practical terms HER views and writings are sought out and used to settle the matter for many SDAs, in particular historical and conservative ones
@JesusIsEnough777 yes that is unfortunate, but the same thing happens across the board in Christianity amongst the like of the pope, martin luther, spurgeon, etc.
@sleanos What church uses Spurgeon to comment on every topic of doctrine? Do Lutherans quote Luther in virtually all Bible studies? None that I know do, in fact many Lutherans only took an interest in Luther after the movie about him was made in the early 2000s
@JesusIsEnough777 Living Waters Ministry - Southern Baptists... Kirk Cameron/Ray Comfort. Lutherans don't need to quote Luther in their bible studies all the time because Lutherans BASE their bible interpretation on the original writings and interpretations of Martin Luther. Same goes for Calvinism, etc. I'm sorry my friend, but you are ignorant on these matters. Please research. I say this in Christian love because you err in many ways and are misleading people as well as your own path.
@sleanos Lutherans hold the Bible of the Old and New Testaments to be the only divinely inspired book, the only source of divinely revealed knowledge, and the only norm for Christian teaching (see outlines of doctrinal theology or their official sites). Also Luther as well as Kirk Cameron et al are not called "continuing authority", "prophet" or other titles that elevate EGW. People within Lutheran & Baptist churches vary in opinion but the Bible is their base-not their pet prophet
@JesusIsEnough777 Amen. Then you understand our stance as well. The Bible is our only rule of faith and even Ellen White says that. Her writings spur on serious investigation of the scriptures as it is intended to. And because of this, and the visions she received over the course of 80 years and the godly life she lived amongst other reasons is why we believe she was truly the Lord's messenger in these last days to help prepare the people for the 2nd coming.
@sleanos Also remember EGW upheld Luther & the reformation started because of what he did in obeying God. You attempt to draw heat from EGW by pointing to others yet the evidence is clear. Christianity does not hold onto 2 sources of authority. The SDA church lists EGW as an authority in their fundamental beliefs. Sleanos if you don't like what I have to say then don't read it. The truth of the Bible and God's final word (Heb 1:1) is evident. I choose Jesus-EGW has NO part in my salvation
@JesusIsEnough777 I think you simply misunderstand everything here. Yes we believe her writings are authoritative in the sense we believe the Holy Spirit guided much of her ministry. She is not perfect and nor do we look to her for salvation. We look to Jesus and the Bible alone for that. But the Lord ALWAYS sends a messenger, His prophets BEFORE he does anything to help prepare the way. IE: Noah, John the Baptist, etc.
@JesusIsEnough777 Note: This is not a reflection on Ellen White's writings, nor the Seventh-day Adventist's church stance on her and her writings. What you've pointed out is a mere reflection of imperfect people erroneously using her writings to uphold doctrine despite her repetitive warnings not to do so for the Bible alone is the stance of all truth and every Seventh-day Adventist doctrine is clearly found in the Bible.
@sleanos Fundamental Belief 18 says EGW is a "continuing authority" When a person is baptized into the SDA church, they must agree with EGW per the statement on the baptismal ceritificate.
@JesusIsEnough777 You're right they do. But not blindly. They are given bible studies on this controversial topic and are allowed to make up their own minds as to the validity of the gift of prophecy and EGW's role in this.
that load of garbage i was baptized in a SDA church and studying before it to make sure i was sincere i never once studied or quoted Ellen G white.
all from the bible plain in simple so my advice is do better research before saying ur opinion. and during my baptismal i never made oath or quoted EGW
are you a SDA?...then you should understand words such 'omega apostasy', 'the shaking', 'tares and wheat'...Ezekiel Chapter 8 and 9...and this is not a surprise!
Raised SDA in home, school & church... it saddens me to see our church not utitize her teachings more. My husband is a fmr Baptist Minister & Chaplain of American Legion. He was Baptised SDA in 2003. We're reading Prophets & Kings -- such inspiring words.
i agree brother Ellen G White had the spirit of prophecy not he spirit of athority. But some of our church leaders keep publishing books on her journals and diaries which were never published by her and usually just expressed her thoughts. It leads us to believe only in what she herself published and gave to be sold not what was her thoughts in journals and diaries. Hope our conference can understand that.
With quotes like the one in this video, it's pretty obvious that Sister White did not intend her writings to be doctrinally authoritative in any manner, but like Jesus warns His church, there will be wolves along with the sheep. Based on some of my research, it seems Jesuit infiltration and influence in theology has already crept into some of our own seminaries.
look at it this way if im writing a book and have notes and thoguhts about it (this example) and well everyone liked the finishing book but some how my notes got out etc the un finished thoughts to even battles between my flesh and soul it making looks well stupid or in competent .
so for me i always seen or been able put my self in others shoes most people would be confused and not going look at what someone writes the same way.
Even though I'm an Evangelical Baptist much of my family (Mother and two sisters) are SDA. I've attended SDA services and retreats off and on over the last 30 years and totally respect the Adventists. I've never had a problem with Ellen G. White and if people better understood SDA's in general they wouldn't be so hateful. Honestly I've hardly ever heard my Adventist friends and family talk about Ellen G. White unless asked about her. SDA is just SO misunderstood! Thanks for posting this vid!
Thank you brother for that testimony. And you are right, SDAs are very much misunderstood and worse... misrepresented to our evangelical brothers and sisters by so-called "ministers" of God.
@matthewchachi This is not being judgmental. Just sharing an opinion I've come to hold after hearing hundreds of pastor preach things from the bible and not from the bible and for and against our church (Seventh-day Adventist). I simply believe they are in error of the scriptures. Christ told the same to the Pharisees who quoted scripture to Him and did not quite understand what they were saying or doing. We are to contend & uphold truth but in love, honesty and humility.
well that is true no church is 100% right since we are in sin or tempted with sin all time and fail at times . but i think we need to be communicating with God not to look to pasters or preachers for answers but they are here to guide us or should guide us the right paths . not saying we should not go to chruch for
@matthewchachi I disagree with you here in part. I believe the Seventh-day Adventist Church is the closest of any denomination to being biblical accurate in matters of faith and understanding. But you are correct, individually we all struggle with sin and need a saving relationship with the Only One who can save us, Jesus Christ.
well like saying u are what u eat , same goes for who we hang around .
but at the end or the 2nd coming its our relationship with our God that defines our fate our life's our actions. so finding church family not whats word imperative but it helps us to follow Jesus example better usely.
@matthewchachi mmm I disagree a little here. It is very important to be a part of believers who believe the same thing. Scripture makes that pretty clear. Its all a part of God's sanctifying process in and through us to reach others also.
@randy95023, I know you posted this 2 years ago. It was well stated, thanks for the positive comments about Seventh Day Adventist Christians. I totally agree with you.
@randy95023 Shocking comment in that most Christians call SDA a cult because they have different beliefs. Glad to see a better understanding. Out of Curiosity is it a doctrinal thing that led you to be a Baptist and Not SDA (you don't seem opposed)? not trying to force beliefs, I'm just wondering (and hoping to a have a discussion about denominational beliefs without the attackative nature that most have).

Your SDA church regards EGW's writings as EQUAL to the Bible:

You've got to read more carefully in MANY other sources of Adventist printing.
