Sokolov killed this. I have heard it now a few dozen times in the last month by many different pianists (in fact, I could never tell the differences so much until this recent affair with Chopin I am having), and this interpretation is simply tragic. Like everyman below, I nearly wept in awe.
I have lately come to realize that Sokolov is easily the greatest living pianist. He unlocks the absolute essence of every composer he plays. No other pianist matches his rich palette of colors or range of sonorities. His Bach rivals Gould, his Beethoven equals Serkin, Barenboim and Perehia, his Chopin rivals Rubinstein and Horowitz, his Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev rival Richter and Gilels. He could give master classes to Kissin and Pogorelich and utterly buries Argerich. He's simply the best.
@MISHA1119 I think my ex pupils play better than Baramboim and Periah, they both show lack of colour and poetry. So why are they there?, because they are.
@Cooller1993 some one who fell out of line with the piano years ago, but got back thanks to Argerich Gilels and now Trifinov. Me I am a nobody and that s why I can say what I like on YT. Look at my other channel Chad410. You might find something you like.Try Sokolov s Petrouschka or Haskils Beethoven concerto.Peacex

@MISHA1119 : So true what you saying here. A pitty, there are no more recordings, every note he plays should be recorded, every note is gold...
