Most people don't know that the interstate commerce clause is the reason all drugs are illegal including medical marijuana. Sigh. It is quite unconstitutional for them to keep this drug war up.
As a pharmaceutical technologist, THC does have medicinal purposes. We've created Maranyl which works for some people, but not as well as marijuana.

The cotton and paper industries are a little more obvious to understand; marijuana can be used to create fabric and paper superior to that created by cotton and trees (ie the paper the US constitution was written on.) The petroleum industry gained an interest to suppress marijuana when Henry Ford created an assembly line auto mobile that used hemp fabrics, plastics, and fuel.
