  • My pop spoke about these men and their songs many moons ago. It brings back old childhood memories.

  • This brings back memories. One of the first records I ever owned in a 78 rpm along with the record player I got for Christmas.

  • Dedicated to Ben Morrione. . . .you sang this beautifully, too. Love you always, Benita

  • Sometimes I'm ashamed of my generation for thinking this kind of music is stupid -- I'm sixteen, and this is real talent. This is real music. These are people who put their all into singing. It's even more incredible after being exposed to hundreds of artist who assume that autotune can substitute for a good voice.

Also, I'd urge everyone to avoid obvious trolls. If they type as if they're children, chances are they're only going to waste your time -- time that could be used listening to this.

  • This song was featured on an episode of "Millennium". It created an effect for the scene that haunts me. (in a strangely inspiring way) thanks Mills Brothers!

  • Thankyou for the memories - This song brings me back to my childhood - a childhod of sweet memories of real music.

  • 1:40

    his face XD

    but great song <3

  • I just love this song!!!!

  • I loved this song as a kid. I used to listen to The Mills Brothers rendition practically every time I turned on the record player. Thank you for sharing it.

  • This is considered by most experts on vintage music the top group from the 1930s and 1940s. Many of their songs including this one have been copied and remade many times.. They recorded over 200 songs many of them classics!!! Of course that was another era and music was for the most part, far more sane and understandable! The Mills Brothers and Ink Spots are what led to the many harmony groups starting in the late 40s and early 50s.

  • @WoogieBoogie96 The Mills Brothers are my Great Uncles. You are correct on everything you've said! I thank you for your accolades.

  • god this music is timeless.. The video game Bioshock got me into this music. love it! This music has a haunting atmosphere to it.

  • back when having swag was still classy

  • the mills brothers have always been my most favorite !! i love them so much - their vocal abilities were unique !!!

    lovely soothing music

as though i come from acroos the planet...

  • Back when blacks had class and were not in ghettos and into rap. Blacks holdthese people as your models and heros and not snoop dog

  • @calihartley2010 Oh, for certain--class! They were performing in this movie, entertaining an all-white group. And without a doubt, they entered and exited the studio through the back door.

  • @jirdinmoo How do you know that? Did you ask them? I guess not. In this one case they may've entered through the front door.

  • The guy third from the left. Was he a Mills Brother?

  • @williamsbd ...or right ha

  • @williamsbd His name is Gene Smith. He took Harry's place when he was drafted. Did you notice that the guy on the far right was John Mills Sr. He took John Jr.'s place after he passed away.

  • @flinthillsdad Thanks flinthillsdad! I did know that the guy on the far right was the father.

  • Damn i never get tired of this song.

  • Okay to place this here is going to get to the right ears. We all like all different songs, no matter the Genre. Everything evolved from classical. Not this, but Bach, Behtoven, Chopin, Lizt, Shoebert, and others. So everyone should stop fighting, but just enjoy....

  • aaahh... music to my ears, very soothing, very relaxing. thanks brothers. even we live in different times, I admire your song guys!

  • i like how the guy was staring right downb the camera

  • great stuff... thank you

  • These guys were just too cool. No matter how terrible my day has been, I listen to this and it just chills me right out.

  • Hah great song but really bad editing. One moment the guitarist is at the center and visible, the next he's behind the singers.

  • Absolutely Fantastic!!!

  • This classic by the Mills Brothers recorded in 1944 I believe is the original. It was recorded by many groups the most popular being the Orioles & Hilltoppers.

  • 15 years old and loviing this music

  • I heard this In a WWII documentary at school.

  • Marvellous!! One of my fav!

  • What a gorgeous rendition of this song! Thank you for this post!

  • their smiles are intoxicating

  • Alternately we could just agree to disagree and actually enjoy music as a global phenomenon spanning all cultures and all tastes. Jesus fuck, why do people think that having a youtube account warrants constantly arguing and belittling other peoples music. This is great music, if you dont think so go back to your own music, I wont hate on your music.

  • @MrGermantim Please try and not say Jesus F***. Not very nice.

  • Love it Thanks

  • When music and melody had meaning and inspiration.

  • I think the two on the left of the screen are the brothers, sure the man on the far right was their father

  • quite a step up from "babyy babbyy baaabyy ooow0ohhh"

  • I <3 Doo-wop music, especially this song, but I DON'T find Today's music completely shit unlike some lads below me.

  • @infinity09x

Are you serious? This isn't Doo-wop.

Also there is some good music today, unfortunately you have to look real hard to find it.

  • Wow, the Mills Brothers are so good. I wish there was someone that could sing like that now. I love those old songs. My parents had some of their songs when I was a kid. I am 53 years old now and I absolutely love this music.

  • I wish they would play this at my homecoming

  • THE MUSIC BACK THEN HAD MEANING. NOT LIKE NOW!

  • Comment removed

  • This is brilliant. So beautiful.

  • This song make me feel love tonight :)

  • It's wonderful to be able to listen to some music and NOT hear the "F" word every other line.

  • This was made in 1944. This, I am sure of. I looked it up.

  • Beautiful harmonies. The real good harmonies make your skin crawl, like these guys. Nobody does good harmonies these days, it's all whiny, pitch corrected dribble. This is a fact, the days of natural voice recording are gone. No label will risk the imperfections of the human voice - even though the imperfections of the human voice make it beautiful. Today's popular (pop) artists can't even hold a vibrato

  • 1. MAKE A FAKE HEART WITH YOUR HANDS. 2. THINK OF YOUR CRUSH. 3. KISS THE HOLE OF YOUR FAKE HEART. 4. PUT THE FAKE HEART OVER YOUR REAL HEART. 5. POST THIS ON YOUR FAVE SONG. IF YOU DO THIS TOMORROW WILL BE THE BEST DAY EVER-3

  • This reminds me of my Dad, who had this on 78 RPM, and always called it his favorite record.......unfortunately I sat on his copy and I have always felt guilty about it...Dad's gone now, but whenever I hear the Mills Brothers, I stop and pray that he is up in heaven waiting, and maybe hearing the Mills Brothers live!

  • smooth sweet. who does smoothe and sweet today ty

  • They sang with there arms down, so they couldnt attack the "white women " thats how bad it was in the 30s 40s 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s in america ! maybe it will get better ... lets hope .

  • Groucho Marx lookalike??? Just kidding. Great performance.

  • tight harmonies

  • Those two guys on the end seem a bit chummy...

  • @shondibelle You are so...nvm. They're related.

  • @HimeBerrii ok....;-)

  • so much talent

  • this went straight to my heart.

  • 74 and still loving the Mills Brothers and In Spots. Would love to have those days back. Music today just doesn't measure up to what we had back then.

  • these people had great voices these generations and music will endure beyond some later generations, no matter how much money they made, this was real, this was "soul"

  • @amazingaro i see soul in music yonger then this. tho its rare

  • they were really beautiful sometimes makes you want to go back in time, a great time in the world.

  • Brilliant !!!, What a class act

  • these guys make every note count.

  • Dang. These neagers sure can sing. :-)

Just kinding. Nice song. How high black music has fallen. :-/

  • What's the name of this group???

  • @AutomatikSystematik They are the Mills Brothers!

  • Does anyone know where I can get sheet music for this song? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

  • what group is this??

  • @illyas1 .....Mills Brothers

  • i'm not totally sure but i kind of interpret the song as a black man trying to love a wait women the lyrics just seem like that to me if u look them up you may notice it too because i understand in those time 40s-50s there was still alot of racism

  • @MaverickLegacy Interesting interpretation but I'm afraid it's wrong. This song came out in 1944 at the height of WW2. It was a soldier singing to his girl back home. With lines like "Someday I know I'll be back again" or "Our dreams will live though we are apart" or "Although there are oceans we must cross

And mountains that we must climb" and especially "Till then, when all the world will be free." This song had a resurgence during the Korean war and again during the Viet Nam war.

  • traditional. pure talent. no autotune. sync'ed. can actually sing. Win.

  • No B.S. just a guitar and 4 great voices. Love It!

  • I like how you can tell whose over 100 years old just by reading the comments (they all are something to the effect of: "this is real music, not like today with their cop killing and whatnot").

  • Wow great amazing sound !!!

  • Charming song & video, thanks for posting

  • what is it about this song that make me nearly come to tears lol? :.)

  • Amazing harmony, pure genius and talent!

  • Why, this is the song which was our family song. Tnx for posting. Long time undheard of this.

  • The guy that is the 3rd man from the left is not a Mills brother. He briefly replaced Harry while Harry was in the army.

  • @stinkerbelleblue - Good catch. His name was Gene Smith.

  • this song makes me so sad... :,(

  • Huh. Imagine, there was a time when people succeded as good musicians for being good musicians. Amazing.

  • @edgarme90 . It is amazing isn't it? No profanity, no laser beams, smoke, just fine musicianship.

  • @edgarme90 i wish the Mills Brothers had the advanced recording equipment of modern times, the music acts today rarely deserve to have clear recordings, these fellas do.

  • @edgarme90 AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! TALENT NOT REQUIRED TODAY!!!!

  • This song was written in 1943 it was a ww2 song ( when all the world will be free) sang only once--their dad sang with them---

  • This song was written in 1943 it was a ww2 song ( when all the world will be free) sang only once

  • Although there are oceans we must cross and mountains that we must climb

I know every gain must have a loss, so pray that our loss is nothing but time

  • AngryVideoGameKidd2, Till then....

  • This is just beautifiul

  • This is doo wop!

  • THESE GUYS ARE JUST TOO COOL... TILL THEN

  • i love this

  • Simply MAGIC.

  • My first time hearing The Mills Brothers... truly haunting...

  • wow I'm speechless I never knew that an african american group song this song, there smiles I'm just now discovering the music artists before motown and they where awsome

  • this is going to make me cry. :')

  • @CITLSOL You go on, then. Give the old tear-ducts a work-out; this song warrants it.

  • @Ninevah77 yes it's just so beautiful.=)

  • But pray that our loss...is nothing but time. A soldier's words to their family before they deploy. God speed!

  • 6 bieber fans detected

  • @sarelle500gr That is so funny!

  • when love was dance

  • I've wasted 18 years of my life not discovering this gold mine of treasure =(

  • 6 people couldnt wait till then

  • before my time, but this has such soul to it. It's also kind of eerie. Which is always good.

  • @Ninevah77 real talk

  • FIVE stars!!!

  • DL the audio from this song at searchripgrab doht cohm.

  • i does not get better the this... it surely does not. i....i wish more people would listen to this. this muisc is one reason y i would go back to the good old days.

  • @xxxfealerxxx so true! So great music almost complete forgotten! And we listen to rhianna, oh my gosh!

  • Its like music too my ears...Oh wait.

  • Written and recorded in 1944. Don't know when this soundie was made, though.

    There's a Wikipedia entry.

  • Wish the year a song was recorded was behind the title, my guess is the 40's

  • This tune was a hit in the forties, I think. But for me it is a hit of the sixties. It was very popular on the "pop" charts in my home when I was a young teenager, just learning about rock and roll. My mother knew this tune, and I'm certain, still does. It gave me a connection to the "older" generation at that age. I am so grateful to be able to be able to search my bookmarks and put this on whenever I feel. You can't forget this piece of music. I know. I nearly 60.

  • I like to Listen to Frank, Dean, Bing etc. But Donald Mills has a Voice that goes par to par with these greats. then you add all 3 brothers and their dad and you get a SINGULAR voice.

Also Regarding Gene Smith, I found his voice as a nice compliment. It is sad that Herbert did not do that many solos.

Did you notice one thing about the Mills Brothers? They are always smiling :-)

  • real music

  • 5 people are not waiting till then

  • I know this is a song about returning from war ... but the lyrics make me think of the day I see my Nan (grandmother) again in heaven. The Mills Bros. were her favorite and are mine too thanks to her influence. :)

  • @bookabiney3 dude that comment reminds me of my grandparents (sniffel) thats really nice man

  • @koolkid1333 I'm sorry I didn't see this until 5 months later. Loved your reply!

  • for my Danielle, HAPPY CHRISTMAS my darling..♥

  • I thank God I was botn into this music era. Imagine hearing or going to see these and all the other guys and gitrls that came to the UK. or our own artists' My mother used to switch on the radio as soon as she woke and off again when she went to bed.

After the war these guys were all comming over the air from Radio Luxemberg

Magic. The rubbish that we see travelling under the banner of music, by comparison is crap man.

Hooray for 1932 my birth year. This stuff is what keeps you alive.

  • You are an absolute dehumanized MORON if you are voting thumbs down on this. Really...you are. It's not even a matter of taste. There is some ART that transcends personal taste and this is THAT.

  • great harmony and class..love these guye!

  • class deserved to cut this beat:) classified/mills brothers. go check out 'classified F.A.D.S' you wont be disappointed:) .....unless you dont like hip hop

  • How cute he looks like he is singing it to someone in the room! :) what a beautiful voice/s :)

  • Those five prefer rap!

  • For someone to rate this as a dislike total disrespect to foundation. The oldies made the way for what you "like".

  • When was this filmed?

Wild Guess would be 40s or 50s because of the video quality, but I'm not sure.

  • @KyTyJaw11 You are right. Mid-1940s. The Mills Brothers' recording of this song was released in 1944, so I assume this video recording is from 1944 or perhaps around 1945. It was definitely around that time because you can also tell from the ages that they look in this video.

  • @MusicFanOnline yes they definitely look a bit older

and one looks quite a bit older; their father

  • THANK YOU AWESOME VIBRATIONS ~ NAMASTE

  • a class act , the mills brothers are the best have always loved them . makes me think of my mum singing around the house when i was a kid . she loved paper doll and would sing it . the mills brothers are magnificent . born too late thank you AAAAA++++

  • They've all obviously been vocally trained at the Oliver Hardy School of Dramatic Arts... they sound exactly like him!

  • This is during WWII and HARRY MILLS was serving his country in the armed forces. So GENE SMITH is filling in and sings a little solo part the second solo..Gene is to the left of the Mills Brothers father John Sr. Gene Smith was a decent singer, but he did not have Harry's Charisma nor was he able to make his voice sound like a trumpet like Harry. After the war Harry returned and their father stayed on until his retirement. Then there were just 3 MIll's Brothers in the act.

  • I keep coming back to this. Love these guys!!

  • i like everything about this song

  • Comment removed

  • Nobody did harmony like the Mills. At present it's a lost art. Too bad.

  • JUST BEAUTIFUL !!! ... :)

  • Look at those expressions. You just can't argue with those grins.

  • my classic favourite.

  • this is the music..

  • when i listen to this it reminds me of my grandfather he recently died

  • i thaugt that these guys are the ink spots yet this is fantastic

  • It saddens me to read some of these idiotic comments. The Mills Brothers were originally four brothers, one of whom died when he was a young man. Their father then filled in as their bass singer. When their dad died, the four Mills Brothers became the three Mills Bothers. The guitar player is not one of the brothers, and did not sing. This is a scene from a movie, not a stage appearance. Their harmony is world renowned, and is appreciated by music lovers everywhere.

  • @nmurray1944 aren't people just nuts ?

  • Comment removed

  • @nmurray1944

You are correct..ONE IMPORTANT FACTOR YOU LEFT OUT..THIS IS NOT HARRY MILLS...He was serving his country during WWII..so GENE SMITH was filling in for Harry. Gene is to the left of John Sr. (their dad) He sings a little solo..but could not do the famous trumpet voice like Harry could.

  • i think they were talking about something really funny right before they performed. the guy on the left is trying to make the guy next to him laugh. one guy cant even look at the others. just my take lol

  • total bromance going on at 0:30

  • Comment removed

  • One thing I've always wondered, is the guitar-man performing with his vocals as well or is he only playing the guitar?

    I can't really tell for sure. :/

  • @Reckoning888 He's their accompanist. They were originally four brothers. The fourth one, John Mills, played guitar and sang the bass part. Sadly, he died; so they recruited a guitarist, and their father took over the bass part.

  • the guy at 0:46 what's he doing?

  • @aztecmondobean In case you were serious in your question, he's doing the bass. :)

If not, I agree it looks pretty funny.

  • @Reckoning888 lol we'll it's kinda hard to hear on an old laptop

  • One of the greatest songs of all time... And I have to say, youtube is one of the greatest ideas of all time. I love how you start by looking for one thing, and end up somewhere completely different hours later. Thanks to youtube, and thanks to the MANY uploaders that continue to contribute here. kudos!

  • Amazing clip.

  • it's a sad song but i love how they all look on the verge of smiling

  • A wonderful song by an outstanding group, Don't forget to check out their version of "London Rhythm," a classic in a capella sound.

  • anyone tell me where i can download this song?

  • Beats old Dean Martin and his sucky singing anyday.

  • @cypriania1 disagree, Dean Martin was a great singer.
