  • que de belle prestation et de prestige danke à vous paskie

  • I think they used some vocoder?!

  • @pipinko550 I heard that too, on the "call me" @0:53 seconds

  • @marco8701 Yes, it is very obvious. I dont like it, because it is better with all the mistakes - natural, no as a robot.

  • @marco8701 Yes, its obviously. I dont think she needs it. :-P

  • @pipinko550 yeah I think so... I heard it more than once

  • Voz espetacular, curto muito

  • she is so gorgeous like she didnt age at all

  • I love this playful soulful rendition. Natalie really made it her own.

  • TYRA IS GORGEOUS!!!!!

  • Ive seen her in Concert before and yes ans was amazed by her talent. She can really belt of a song and what vocals. Just as great as her dad. Her dad had the most beautiful voice on the planet perhaps/or one of them but Natalie's vocal range/abilities/are second to no one. Am a fan and did buy for music in the past.

  • i cant stand those computer-effects in her voice..

  • No se como esta mujerzuela criticó a Amy Winehouse por usar drogas luego de que ella tambien era una drogadicta

  • Now our Women split into two kinds of voices. What i like to call Mahalia or Clara. Mahalia being the deep contralto and Clara being the high alto. In the Mahalia category you have voices like Gladys, Mavis, Etta, Whitney, Tina. And in the Clara sound you have that great heady quality like your auntie used to make in church, Diana, Patti, Chakka, Natalie. Well Ms Franklin has both. To me that's what makes her unique. (Well her and Ella) have that rare mix of fire and air in their sound.

  • aretha and natalie are great friends and have been for decades...and they both are great singers....

  • It's funny to me because it's been rumored for decades that Aretha was jealous of Natalie Cole being called the "new Aretha" when Natalie came out in the mid to late 70s. Natalie did her thing here and I hope Aretha was proud!

  • She betta sang!!!! I love her voice!

  • THIS IS SOULFUL AT IT'S BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So Sincere!! So beautiful!!

  • I love Natalie Cole...but this performance...auto tune?!

  • @mulattob Auto tune? That is for people that can't sing well.

Natalie is a very good singer.

  • Aretha, ReRe You are the QUEEN!!!

  • Beautifully supreme! Thank you Miss Natalie Cole.

  • SANNNNGGGG Natalie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yessssssss

  • aretha's vocals is amazing just as many other legendary singers and greats we all have are on way of doin it n thats what makes it us .... n sometimes we feel what we sing and sometimes we dont ...

  • uhhh...not quite

    but ok

  • my girl Lynn Fidmont singing on those background vocals. check her out online she is another great vocalist.

  • WTF?! is she using autotune???

  • Tyra is so beautiful!

  • I think Natalie has some of the same qualities in her singing as Aretha. In fact I think she is the only one who can do justice to Aretha's songs.

  • i love natalie!

  • Uncanny how much she sounds like Aretha back when ReRe's voice was at its most supple and strong, the 70's and into the early 80's. Still, Aretha's voice, during that period, was so velvety and rich. I'm thinking, "Day Dreaming," the soundtrack to the film, "Sparkle," and even up to "Jump To It." (Which I consider one of her finest vocals of the post Madonna period, where you really didn't have to be able to carry a tune to be called a "singer." Step, touch, step, touch, SPIN!!!.)

  • God knows, I love my people. We are so.....REAL!!!

  • i lovessss me some Natalie

  • I have always loved Natalie Cole every since I was a very little gyrl. She is such a sophisticated lady......literally

  • natalie is so gorgeous i hope she continues to recover

  • WOW ...I STILL CRY EVERYTIME I HEAR CALL ME....

    SAMUEL BROCK BELGRADE, SERBIA

  • she killed it this is 1 of my favorite Aretha songs along with Dont Let Me Lose This Dream

  • Natalie can sing ANYTHING!! I adore her!

  • The audio quality of these videos makes it sound like they are haveing vocal breaks in their voices. But it's just the quality. Natalie sounds great

  • call me brother while he was on his death bed at 39 he kept saying I LOVE U I LOVE U ILOVE U call me i will be there Ima calling for u my brother i miss soooo dang bad u r my dear of all I want to stopp crying but i can not I love U DERRICK U R ALWAYS IN MY HEART

  • I'm sorry but Aretha is queen in her own right but Queen of soul, plzzzzzzzzzzzzz cause ther are many woman of her time who can sang it better. sorry hun i love you but hey, well thats all im gonna say. And Nat what a good performance i never knew you had this soul in you, im gonna be looking you up sum more hun. ry xxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • @rysim1984 you r right but nat sang this song

  • @rysim1984 Please don't be dumb. Aretha is far ahead of the pack. This is one of those songs that has Aretha stamp on it. There is no title in music that is so that is more true than Aretha being The Queen of Soul, no one has more soul than Aretha and what she did for the genre of soul music outdoes anyone else besides Ray Charles. There is no other better soul singer than Aretha.

  • In The 70's Natalie & Chaka Were Called "Children Of Aretha" Aretha Influenced a Great Many Singers Including Jazz Great Randy Crawford!!!

  • OMG how much damn autotune is on her mic?? How embarrassing

  • there are microphones w/ built-in autotune. that is what you are hearing. no doubt. everybody that night had it on their mics and it was terribly obvious. the thing that IS RIDICULOUS about it is that NONE of them even need it!

so, agreed - Natalie Cole is an awesome singer and does not need autotune. but for some reason the folks who put this show together thought it was a good idea.

    fail.

  • @bluez7 How so?

  • Natalie's voice is heavenly. ENOUGH SAID

  • I liked this version sung by Natalie,

  • @Tygerr30 isn't it just great!

  • jamia simone nash did a great job with this song too. . .an OUTSTANDING job 4 a matter of fact.i'll be posting it soon.

  • Auto tuned Natalie, obviously your confused by the singers of today! (Adam Lambert ex: is unusual, there are not many good singers with such strong pitch today) The real Black Church soulful singers don't need Auto tunes baby! it is in their genes. I've heard Natalie sing live Acapella, and i think you're to young to know anything about her. People in the 70's would'nt even think of cheating their vocals to the public, playing as if they could sing, if your were a power house voice, you were!

  • that was veryyyyyy soulful

i didnt know natalie cole can sing as soulful as that. ive been so used to her singing standards.

  • you obviously don't have any of natalie's stuff from teh 70s..............check out her stuff live love on my mind and all..............the soul sista can go.................she is an exceptional jazz singer though!

  • @frolickfriendster

you're showing your age/youth...natalie started out as an r&b singer...and a soulful one at that. give yourself a treat and look up her early, pre-standards releases. look up her discography - there are some true, classic r&b performances. she also did a live album which was great.

  • @frolickfriendster LOL!!!! That's How Natalie Started -Singing Soul!!! In Fact Her First Single "This Will Be" Was So Loaded With Aretha-esque Inflections It Had Alot Of People Confused Thinking It was Aretha!!!

  • @TyjaluvsChaka Thanks! I saw the video and was stunned. Yes, I have to explore more of Natalie's soul music. :)

  • @frolickfriendster What? LOL!!! If you listen closely you'll hear a lot of what Mary J does is influenced by Natalie as well as Aretha,Chaka & wanda Hutchinson( of the Emotions)! Nataile Got very popular in 1975 with her debut Inseparable album.Aretha's career was waning .though her pipes were nowhere near Aretha's, Natalie had a newer fresher approach to Soul Music.Plus she was younger & very stylish-Ergo- Very marketable!!! Her biggest competition was Chaka & Stephanie Mills!

  • @TyjaluvsChaka Why Natalie switched to "Standards,Pop,& Jazz was because of her aggravated drug abuse that almost destroyed that classy instrument.Much like Whitney!!! Natalies biggest influences are her father Aretha,Ella, her best friend Chaka!!!

  • @frolickfriendster The guys who wrote the music for Natalies early hits actually wrote them for Aretha, but she blew them off. Natalies voice suited the songs perfectly. And, Natalie was a big fan of Aretha and if you notice, you can hear a lot of Aretha in Natalies voice. Naturally, after the songs became huge hits and Grammy winners, Aretha wanted those guys to then do songs for her. Too late sista.

  • @ranhill Not quite right. I don't know the writer or writers names but they had a few songs that they wanted Aretha to sing and Aretha rejected them because she felt like the songs reminded her of material she had already sang. So after Aretha rejected them they came to Natalie.

  • @ranhill rotfl

  • i love natalie cole, i like her doing standards but soul music is where she truly excells. one of the best. one level slightly below the trinity of high singing, patti, chaka, and aretha.

  • Nicely sung, but also nicely autotuned from 4:00

  • @ardofnoise That's not autotune but what you are hearing the microphone system the used for this entire program. You can only hear it on the lighter voices and higher notes.

Natalie doesn't need to use Auto-Tune ever because she can SANG!

  • Aretha (The Queen), Natalie (The Princess). AMAZING performance.

  • That's a bogus statement...Ree, is the Grand Lady & Natty, is Queen.

  • Aretha is both The Grand Lady and Queen.

  • Natalie sang her ass off. She is one of the only people that I've seen do an Aretha Franklin song Justice.

  • i love natalie cole. pretty and classy.

  • aretha arrasa com suas roupas

  • Love to hear Her, Everytime She Sings and this is -No Exception -She,Just Has it ALL: a TRUE Diva/Songstress...Much Praise To Her....Thanks.

  • Great tribute

  • ELEGANT AND A TRUE SANGER!

  • people are soo dumb... you put your self in arethas place she is a LEGAND!!she is so hapy that people look up to her like that ..so shit she dont need to stand her crying is enough!!abd dont hate off aretha

  • Natalie did it! Wonderful wonderful as always... so underrated...

  • One must understand Aretha Franklin is truly a Queen. She carries herself in a very dignified and respectful manner very much like the Queen of England does. I hope all can appreciate her character and decency, its very lacking amongst todays stars and performers. Long live the Queen.

  • Te amo Natalie. Incomparable tu comienzo del tema, preciosa la suavidad y fraseo. Así se canta el mejor soul.

    Jorge-Argentina

  • Do you expext aretha to Jump around just to show her appreciation?

    GIve her a break haters..

  • natalie cole's eyes are so pretty!

  • I am so tired of Aretha bashers on YouTube. This issue of weight and superficial appearance issues in the minds of so many people shows such a deep sickness in our society.

  • @diamondears ..... Well said!

  • @diamondears ........You said it !!!! I could see if it was out of concern for her health... which is a major concern ...for me anyway.... can you imagine the worlod without Ms Aretha Franklin in it???? shudder the thought.

  • @NativeBostonianKP I am also concerned about her health. However, she's outlived many of her peers. NO, a (my) world without Aretha is like the U.S. without New Orleans (vis a vis Katrina)

  • @diamondears Although I truly hope that she would lose some weight for her own health!

  • @diamondears WOOT WOOT!!! I know I am years late, but if you had posted this comment today it would still sting and ring true! Thank ya!! I am in total agreement. We bash people who have a far greater gift and deeper impact on history than e could ever have, judging humans with standards of perfection that neither we nor SAINTS will achieve. Amen..

  • @diamondears

I agree...I was at work and a lady mentioned Aretha's weight and I stopped her right there and said Aretha and Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, etc. have the right to be whatever, whom ever they choose to be, do, think...Do you know she held that against me. People love you when you agree with their bull corn! and then I also say...LOOK IN THE MIRROR.

  • Truuuue emotionless statue is the term.

It really seems like the chck came for the amount on the ckeck and no for the tribute ahah.

    I'm sure she feels like:

Ok folks, they told me to hear ya (not even to listen carefully) I sit, I listen, I get paid, and I leave!

  • Aretha did smile when other performers would give tribute to her. Aretha isn't one of those people who is going to stand up out of her seat and clap with a big smile. She was very honored that night. Aretha is shy. You expect her to be like Patti was and be in everyones face with her happiness. Aretha is a more shy, keeps to herself kind of person. She isn't going to be all in your face with her emotion. And there is nothing wrong with that.

  • yea people always talking shit shit bout her saying she stuck up n wateva she just calm collected and too herself aint nutin wrong wit dat

  • True that. There is nothing wrong with being calm and to yourself. They get on my nerves when they say that.

  • did you ever hear the version diana ross did of call me, its a really nice version. she cant do the vocal acrobabtics that aretha can but its clean and simple, very nice x

  • diana's version is soulful and emotional. in fact, diana was nominated for best r&b vocals at grammys in 1971 for call me....., but lost to aretha's don't play that song.

  • @AIKAN74 OMG YOU ARE VERY INFORMED, I LOVE DIANA OVER ARETHA BUT "CALL ME" IT`S MY FAVORITE SONG OF ARETHA`S IT`S MYSECOND MOST PLAYED SONG ON MY IPOD (SECON TO "IF I WAS YOUR GIRLFRIEND")

  • @AIKAN74 No...Diana was nominated in 1972 but lost to Aretha's Bridge Over Troubled Water. The version was good, but I don't think I liked it better than Aretha's. I'm just saying

  • @19MenACE14 okay i was close.........now if you dont like diana's over re-re's...........then we gonna have to meet on the playground after school!!!!!!!

  • i thought i was da only one who like that version its my second best

  • nat as a good voice...but she comes third in line....first aretha....second whitney...then nat

  • jajaja tough i love aretha, i must say that`s funny!!

  • i know auto tune when i hear it.. that is auto tune.

  • This is one of the rarest female artist who sings live and sounds exactly like the records, she don't damm need your auto tune. the mic is hot and the sound system is awesome. get alife.

  • In post production it is auto tune, you can hear it, especially in the beginning, it gives that robotic tone/transitions between the notes.

They did the same thing with Jennifer Hudson singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow for Patti on the final creshendo.

It's not hard to hear that....

  • i got goosebumps at the beginning...her voice is magical!

  • goebels99, disrespectful idiot.

  • that piece in her ear is her monitor so she can hear herself

  • she using auto-tune!!!

  • It's not auto tune. it's the vocoder in her ear that distorted her voice as she sang.

She was still great despite it and looked good !!!!!!!

  • So why it doesn't do the same thing for all the other singers that sang that night?

  • ?¿?¿? Them all used auto-tune that night. Chaka did too. It's awful.

  • Comment removed

  • She is, indeed. So was Chaka.

  • It sounds like she has some type of effect on her voice.. like a tunner

  • Post production==>Autotune.

  • Sang Natalie!!!!!1

  • omg! natalie sounds so great, this is one of my favorite of aretha´s, she did it justice

  • i love the queen but who told her that outfit was cute? she needs to fire someone

  • Natalie I wish you well girl I pray the anointing touches your body and may god heal your body sang the song girl I love you always because this will be.

  • Damn I love natalie and Tyra is beautiful!!!!!!

  • its so nice to see Natalie singing some good ol' fashioned r/b. Seems like ever since that huge album of hers, yrs ago, all she sings is a lot of jazz. No disrespect...does anyone know how she's doing, btw?...

  • She is getting better according to an interview she did on Entertainment Tonight. She had to cut her hair because it was falling out. The one thing I appreciate about Ms. Cole is that she has a very possitive attitude about the illness and she is a fighter. She is determined not to let the illness get her down.

  • This lady is the ONLY female singer who can get me out of my seat in concert and make me holler...........

  • Natalie did her thing singing this song as a tribute to ree, minus the audio, mic and tec-diffculties.

  • it sounds like theres a vocoder on the voices .... great concert though.

  • There is lol...it sounds wierd doesn't it? I think its a discredit to the great vocalist they had that nite.

  • natalie sang the hell out of this to aretha!!

  • This is a mess and I don't mean Natalie. Whoever produced this show forgot to get some money and talent for lighting, sound and editing. Black people need more key lighting. They should have called Oprahs lighting people. This show could have been something special but it some of the worst sound and lighting.

  • i hated it, because of the mic. i dont know what was wrong with that thing. it ruined chakas performance too.

  • I thought I was the only one that picked that mic sound up!

  • no i picked up on it too lol. so did alot of people. they should have checked that b4 the show. i like the old school mics of the 70's better nice and slim and great sound.

  • its hideous isnt it, its called a Vocoder i think, its the same thing used on the Cher 'believe' song, it tweeks nots, i dont know whats wrong with it. .... weird. cool performance though.

  • I LOVE ME SOME NATALIE COLE!

  • A beautiful take on this classic Aretha song!
