I know they would never work (let alone get together) but I absolutely ship this couple, just for the sake of Molly's happiness. She's such a sweet, selfless character, she deserves true love. True love with Sherlock, let's face it, isn't going to happen anytime in the next millenium, but I hope she can find someone who deserves her. :)
In this scene it always appeared me that in his previous deduction Sherlock was trying to be teasing, that affectionate teasing about boyfriends/girlfriends/dates that goes on between friends, but in his own deducing way and expected Molly to go all shy and embarrassed and tell everyone about her new man, but it ended up backfiring spectacularly on him.
He may not have been sincere. He is a sociopath and they can lie to a persons face without showing signs so he may not be truly sorry. We may never know.
@maintcon Except he is sorry, you can tell by his reaction, and the fact that in the end, he trusted her and went to her for help. He may be a "high-functioning sociopath" but that certainly doesn't mean he wasn't sincere.
@BetaArtemis I think the term sociopath has been something presented to him instead of true diagnosis. He's clearly unused to praise, affection or correction. I'm sure rather than deal with a very different child, he was just given that label and I think it hurts him more than he lets on.
i think he is sorry. Even after this part when he has to go to Barts, Molly goes there to help him with a body and he says she didn't have to come in. When does Sherlock ever care about Molly's life outside Barts? Never.. and the way he watches her before they got to the body, shows he still feels bad.
This scene is hilarious! Sherlock being ruse, Molly upset, Sherlock apologizes, everyone confused at that paradoxical moment, Sherlock kisses Molly, Molly gasps at the same time Sherlock recieves text, Molly nervous, Sherlock says it was him, Lestrade bewildered, lol
Awww, this is is so sweet - the acting from everyone was great in this scene! :) Loved the fact as well Lestrade briefly thought Sherlock could actually make a noise like that lol!! XD
His reaction to Molly in this series confused me. I had thought he was aware of her feelings towards him. I mean he was always charmingly manipulative when he wanted something from her in the first one. He commented negatively and positively (all on one go) on her appearance, so I always thought it was done on purpose.
As much as I liked him owning up to his fault and apologizing, I cringed when he kissed her. It was a bit out of character. Or, I guess I just misjudged his character progress.
@looniegurl I took Sherlock starting to turn away & then having the second thought and giving the apology & kiss as a result of his experiences in the episode. The things that Irene stirred up in him could be seen as making him act slightly more generous to hurt Molly here. I have always thought that SH can tell she's attracted to him uses it when needed but doesn't understand the emotional component of the crush & his other usual behaviour to her is just negligent and insensitive.
@looniegurl However, an alternative explanation for the kiss would be that as a sociopath the nuances of regular human emotion are foreign but he's making an appropriate gesture since the reactions in the room made clear he has really crossed the line. For instance, in the premiere when there is a strong reaction in the room when he wonders why the victim wouldn't have been over the death of her child 20 years later SH picks up on the reaction & halts, asking "is that not good?".
@rtfirefly0 Yes, well, he wasn't picking up the cues from the rest of the crowd. He just kept trudging on even with them warning him. It was a very human reaction because he didn't even have to ask, look around, didn't even look puzzled. He knew automatically that he crossed the line. I forgot that Irene served as sort of a sexual awakening for Sherlock. He can now sympathize since he understands the sentiment of having a crush. Thanks for clearing it up for me.
@EnigmaDrath Technically, it would be that psychopaths have absolutely no capability for emotional connections with other people. Sociopaths have great difficulty doing so, but are able to over time. Of course, by his own definition, Sherlock is a sociopath and not a psychopath.
This scene is so cool... I couldn't believe it first so I had to watch it a second time :) I was like "oh my god, he said sorry" and then there was the phone noise (and Lestrade's face) xD
@Calucifer13 Sociopaths are no psychopats. They CAN feel empathy, and Sherlock does. He cares about John, mrs. Hudson and Mycroft, and shows it at times. That he apologized to Molly doesn't mean he'd apologize to people easily, it just means he apparently does care about Molly too. (As a friend, of course.) He's not an unfeeling human monster you know...
@Feanorielle I am partly a sociopath, to be exact. That is why I find his behavior funny because if he is a full-blown sociopath, he woud find the apologizing ITSELF absolutely... well, humiliating for him?
@Calucifer13 Non-sociopaths find apologizing humiliating too. That's why we so rarely do it. Scientific terms aside, Sherlock being able to feel some kind of empathy is in line with his established behaviour. His relationship with John is in the heart of the books and all of the adapatations, after all.
Sociopaths have absolutely no emotional connection. Sherlock considers Watson a close friend, and is protective of Mrs Hudson. You could say that hanging around with Watson is beginning to humanize him. Besides, while he can be quite abrupt with Molly, he never means to be mean to her. Usually he's just not aware that he says hurtful things. Now he's just starting to notice. He realizes, by his own deduction, how much time and effort she put into it, and it's meant for him XD
I love this scene. When Sherlock apologizes, it's so touching, and so completely unexpected! I love John's face, like "WTH just happened there?!" lol And of course the phone ruined the moment. lol Poor Molly
This is just after Sherlock has been teasing Molly about her Christmas present, all wrapped in red and how it must be for someone she fancies very much, he's making all his clever deductions about it and she is close to tears, then he reads the lable, goes quiet and white... because he realises the present it actually for him!!!
my favourite scene!!!!!!!!!! yay thankyou for uploading. i wonder about Molly, do you think she's as silly as she pretends to be? She is a forensic pathologist after all
I think what makes it so real and cringe-worthy is that Molly, while obviously crushing very hard on Sherlock, is so sweet. She always helps him with anything he needs and the difference between this and last season, was he was never really intentional in his slights to her. With this, he was completely gunning for her and it makes you not like him in the moment.
Awww I love how Molly is so wonderfully pathetic:))) I know they'll never be an item (Grrrrrr), so I hope they'll be friends! OR... maybe Molly could finally stand up to Sherlock for his darn right rude behavior! *evil laughs* :))
Loved this scene very much. It was so moving and unexpected and it seems Sherlock genuinely meant the apology. They are a cute couple but would never work.
@Midtowner321 I agree I think Sherlock's too clever for her and she wouldn't be able to keep up. I can imagine her with someone intelligent but no as intelligent as sherlock.
Well, since Sherlock pointed out that Lestrade's wife was cheating on him, and since Lestrade looked really impressed when Molly took off her coat, and since Lestrade really is a nice guy and seems to get along well with Molly, and since I am just a shipping whore who will pair up anyone who happens to be in the same room together, I'd say she should give Lestrade a shot.
@EnigmaDrath Yay, someone else got Lestrade x Molly thoughts from this! *high fives* Seriously, I think Molly is interested in the wrong guys (for her.) It's like she had awful self esteem and tried to compensate by finding a really super intelligent and special man... yet I doubt she'd really deep down be able to form a true connection and bond with such an eccentric person. She'd be just used and abused like a loyal dog too eager to change servitude for kind words. Poor Molly. :P
I really liked this scene even though the build up was sooo awkward! Poor Molly :(. I need to watch the whole thing again though as I'm sure I've missed aload of the details and I don't think I really liked the ending. Apart from that 'twas a ruddy good show!
Awww this was so cute, i don't "Ship" these two but find them kind of amusing and hope they become friends as obviously they will never be an item lol , thanks for putting up!
Such a great scene </3 I laughed and at the same time felt so bad for poor Molly. I can't believe Sherlock apologized, and from the look on John's face he can't either. So well done.
I am so glad Lestrade is back in season two, however I found the first episode a little disjointy (although there were some hillarious bits two). Please share your opinions on the latest episode.
