I remember watching these on T.V. as a kid in the 60's. Always loved them. They influenced my taste in houses. I still love that style of house above most others. Something about them screams home..
@natnasci Especially when Blondie wears that frilly apron with her big poofie sleeves... and her kitchen curtains... Love it. The house is a classic American 1940s house!
i'm pretty sure that's the backlot at universal where they shoot desperate housewives (wisteria lane) - also the burbs, animal house, buffy the vampire slayer and.... other stuff
Like any running gag, you know it's coming, and it's always interesting to see how they are going to do it this time! He ran into the mailman in every movie I think!
They borrowed the theme song and opening to the 60s TV show and used them for the TV run of the movies. I think you can now get the movies with their original titles on them at amazon... a box set.
You can tell that the style is different... the music sounds more modern too. And if you look at Blondie standing in the door way, not Penny Singleton!
This is hilarious! The impossibility of it is what makes it so funny! Like, for example, how in the laws of physics could it have been possible for Dagwood to transfer ALL of his shaving cream by running into the mailman! Pure comedic genius!
Boy you guys put waaaaaaaaaay too much into it! It's funny because it's funny!!!! The movies were modeled straight from a comic-strip! These gags are just plain funny!!!!
This routine originated in Chic Young's comic strip, and is one of the most venerable of all the recurring sequences. Dagwood and Mr. Beasley still run into each other on occasion, on paper, thanks to creator Chic Young's son Dean. It's as much an icon as Mr, Dithers kicking Dagwood's rear in the office (that's only in the strip)....Penny Singleton not only played "Blondie" in the 28 movies in the series (1938-'50), she also co-starred with Arthur Lake on the RADIO series from 1939 through '49.
thank you soooo much for these. Dagwood and blonde was my favorite growing up. although they were in re-runs even in the 70's. They are so timeless in there humor. Blonde was so hot even by todays standers. If they were ever to make a re make of this show. I would use the girl that is in love with Joe in the movie "Joe Dirt" I can't think of her name off hand.
rofl!! neither did I. I remember one summer break, they played every single one of these movies.. with a different one, every day. I was blown away at how many of these movies there actually were.
dagwood didn't even say the mailman's name

@spdskte They do... back in '96 they had a marathon! I'm sure they do something periodically...

Nothing in these shots look familiar to me... I'm a big Dennis the Menace, Bewitched, I Dream Of Jeannie Fan, and I know that street pretty well!

No matter HOW many times I've seen this. Its as funny as the first time.

When I watched the movies, I thinkt hat's how they started them. The mail would be seen falling the ground & then the oepning theme song would play.

Did they? I always wondered about that. I was born in '71 so all I remember is the opening from the movies hehe.

That's not possible, running into a car does not knock it over to the side.
Shadowhawk28 2 years ago
Anything's possible in a Hollywood movie about a comic strip.
gregoryagogo 2 years ago
I know, but in real life outside the movie, is still not possible.
Shadowhawk28 2 years ago
We go to movies because it's totally not real life.
This clip is funny because it's so far fetched and would never happen in real life.
You are probably good at math and related to Spock.
gregoryagogo 2 years ago
Yet Nolan based his Batman Movie on real life...
Shadowhawk28 2 years ago
Sure. I totally see the realism in THAT movie.
gregoryagogo 2 years ago
Then go watch Batman.
gregoryagogo 2 years ago
Look im just comparing notes ok? And i have already seen Nolan's Batman so there's no point in this silly debate.
Shadowhawk28 2 years ago
This is not a debate website... I would stick to WATCHING videos.

jimstew2007 2 years ago
I wouldn't want them to remake it because I'm partial to Blondie's very '40s style!!
gregoryagogo 2 years ago
There were two TV series: one from the 50's, and one from '68 with Patricia Harty and Will Hutchins.
