  • I'm a huge HUGE ipa/dipa fan but this beer is the most overrated beer ever!! It has generic hop bitterness, I couldn't pick out any clear scents or flavors from the hops at all. Thumbs down from me. And I have tried it twice!

  • @Toolminion1 Which IPAs do you like?

  • I love the 90min IPA but my favorite has to be my local Yazoo Sly Rye Porter.

  • @TheTechNerdShow Where is that?

  • dogfish head as a beer that has 12% alc?

  • @honda217 120 minute IPA is 18%. I think Palo Santo Marron might be 11%.

  • This beer is good no doubt.. My favorite though is Anderson Valley Hop Ottin.. It's so florally it's ridiculous, and it's equally as smooth along with a nice ABV.

  • I absolutely hate every IPA I've ever had, but this is the only one I can drink

  • I do not always drink beer, but when I do I prefer Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA

  • I'm pretty sure this the best beer that's ever beer made. Talk about a perfectly balanced! WOW! I drink one on my lunch break every day! :-D

  • @GetOffMyLawn2012 You're living the dream.

  • @GetOffMyLawn2012 it is still very subjective... But wow one a lunch time?

  • sddfsd

  • to make a higher alcohol content they added more sugar which not all of breaks down thus leaving a caramel sweet note covering up the hops which are there in the palate try adding suger or molases to a 60 min and see if it masks the hops

  • I'm usually a cheap beer drinker. Yet when I visit my father he always has some microbrew beer from Magic Hat/Starr Hill/Victory, or the Belgium Stella Artois.

I've have become curious about good beer thanks to "James May Drinks to Britian" on BBC America.

Because of this show I started with Brookyln (pre Prohib) lager, DH 60 min IPA, and Guiness Extra Stout. Then I tasted the 90 min Imperial IPA. Anyone who doesn't rate this beer a 10 is looking for something that isn't there.

  • @strangeones4 This is the first beer I've ever tasted that has no aftertaste. Compared to the 60 min IPA, there is no aftertaste whatsoever!!! Yet the 90 min masks a 9% alcohol level. How can this beer be so "malty" yet not taste like cheap malt liquour that increases the level in alcohol content??? 90 min IPA Dogfishead Beer is old country single malt scotch Glenlivet (at least), 60 min IPA, is Johnnie Walker red.

  • @strangeones4 Malt Liquor raises the alcohol through cheap adjunct ingredients like corn, rice and sugar. 90 Minute only uses high quality ingredients like malted barley to raise the alcohol. It makes a big difference.

  • @AgileHProductions I agree. While I craved the Jaipur IPA from Yorkshire, England. Thanks to the show on BBC America, I now know their IPA's are very weak. What they consider "bitter" is Sierra Nevada IPA territory.

In the last twenty years since America wised up, and realized that there is reail beer to be made at home, this country has provided equal if not better beer than anyone would find in UK/Europe.

  • @strangeones4 Yeah, over the last 20 years the American beer scene has gone from being one of the worst to one of the best. It's a great time to drink beer in America!

  • @strangeones4 If I had to guess I'd say DFH uses primarily English hop varieties rather than West Coast in this particular beer. Extremely pungent but not astringently bitter which is what makes this beer so great. Piney/earthy rather than heavy citrus. First time I had it was with a BBQ pulled pork sandwich with slaw on top and beef stew, and was blown away by how great it tasted.

  • the host sounds like stephan bonner.

  • One of my favorite beers! The alcohol is a bit much, but it doesn't bother me.

  • Bingo!

  • Johnny suck has a "critique". Keep him for belgium yeast based beer, but for the rest...

  • @smokEverything What are some of your other favorite beers?

  • I was able to try this in the bottle and on draft (at a growler fill station). The bottle was very bland. No hop flavor. No hop aroma. Bitterness? Yes. I was not impressed. I didn't understand the fascination with it. But when I tried the draft, it was AWESOME! This just goes to show that just because the bottle is bad, it doesn't mean the beer is bad. It just means that the store doesn't handle their inventory as well as they should.

  • @brandon0409 Funny you should mention that... Our next episode is about a beer that was 4 months past its expiration date. I think it's going to be a good episode. Two Brothers Ebel's Weiss Beer.

  • @brandon0409 IPA does not take aging well, they loose their hop caracter, maybe a little old?

  • @jvezp Sorry lose!!!

  • I think comparing the 60, 90 and 120 minute dogfish heads you get sort of a Goldilocks complex that being, 60 minute is too soft (too sweet and mellow for me), 120 minute is too hard (far too bitter and alcoholic) and 90 minute is just right. This is in my top 5 beers.

  • @Mooseified We are planning on reviewing 120 this spring. It will be my first time tasting it. I'm a little scared.

  • @AgileHProductions I hear it is better if you can find one that has aged for over a year. I cannot confirm though.

  • i want to see a pirate ale review

  • LOVE this beer. I'd suggest trying out Hercules Double IPA. Whenever my 2 local shops are out of 90 minute(All the time) I go to this and I would say it compares very nicely. It's a hidden 10% abv monster.

  • @kgetz3 Have you tried Hopslam, just had it last night, wow, and comes in at 10%.

  • @kgetz3 I haven't seen the Hercules. I wonder if its available in Ohio. I'd like to try it.

  • Using hops as a flavouring component, rather than as a purely preservative or bittering agent. Good ol' Dogfish Head. This is one of my very high favourites. Change its serving temperature and you can get a completely different tasting experience.

60 is good, fairly cheap, but more of a classic IPA-style: bitter.

I think 120 is maybe equal-but-different in taste to the 60, maybe a tiny bit better; but it's notably inferior to the 90, so when you factor in price, why would I buy it?

  • @IgnatzKolisch Good points. Thanks for the input!

  • It's one of my favorite IPA's. The number one in my book is Vino's Pinnacle IPA. If you're ever in Little Rock AR stop by. They have some of the best beer you will ever find for a small town brewery.

  • @djdevelope32 Some of the small breweries are hidden gems. Now you've given me one more good reason to go visit Arkansas.

  • Dogfish Head is one of my favorite breweries on the planet. That being said, I'd have to say that their 60 minute IPA is nothing less than delicious. It seems like the hops come through the most in that brew and they just taste so fresh... It's almost like a "hops tea," that's the best way I can describe it. If you haven't tried it, you are truly missing out.

  • Nice job. Which do I prefer? Prob the 90 min. The 120 min you can only drink now and then (pricey, and a full assault on the taste buds) and the 90 min is just a little more than the 60 Min in flavor, mouthfeel, alc etc. Joby is right. This is a hoppy beer but it is very balanced. You guys will have to review Hopslam when it comes out in a number of months and see what you think of that. It is very hoppy but balanced too.

  • @donosborn I'll have to try the Hopslam. Have you ever had Victory Hop Devil Ale? That has become one of my favorites.

  • @AgileHProductions Hop Devil is good. Victory is pretty solid. Their Prima Pils is very nice.

  • i am impressed with Joby. get him drinking lots of this stuff. Soon enough he will develop more and more tolerence for hops and he can start getting into other styles that have similar flavors!

  • This is THE gateway IPA.

  • Yeah one ofthe most drinker-friendly of the double/imperial IPAs. Glad to hear Joby actually liked it for a change. Sometimes the bigger IPAs are actually more drinkable because they're thicker and smoother and the hops don't linger as much.

  • @ChadzBeerReviews Joby will be the first to admit that this show is changing his tastes in beer. We've been chillin' with some pretty hoppy beers lately.

  • 90 min! nice... Cant wait to try the new batch of 120 min. Hopefully coming out soon.

  • @djmx121 We are going to try and get our hands on some 120 Minute to do a show about it. Other than that we have to steer clear from Dogfish Head. We have three reviews from them coming up - Punkin Ale, Palo Santo Marron and Sah'tea.

Also coming up... Orval, Abita SOS and Yuengling

  • @AgileHProductions If you are nice to me I'll send you some 120 when it is released.

  • This beer is hands down best IPA in drinkabilty in my opinion. I strive to brew this and have failed everytime.

  • @dorf68 That would be a fun brew to taste!

  • Indeed
