Dear GOD, what are some of you deluded people talking about? This kid was grade A psychotic. If you want to attribute "some" of that to a neglectful mother then ok (P.S. his father was quite nurturing and understanding for not understanding that type of behavior). But most of this kid was definitely nature and not nurture. And "how" is he displaying sociopathic/psychopathic tendencies??? What an abundantly ignorant question. Jesus Christ, READ PSYCH. CASE STUDIES.
@LennonMcCartneyluv I think it may have been just a coincusence. Or they wanted to make it part of something bigger. Some animals can sense the feeling of people. Maybe he felt so lost and unwanted that the animals could not handle all of the negativity.
@evea i think it is extremely obvious that Joshua killed all the animals himself, first practicing embalming his toy teddy bear at home. He was, after all, in the throws of a process of becoming a murderer. He _had_ to practice first.
As for the film's music, the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star rendition performed by Joshua at the recital is sheer genius!!!!! Anyone knows where it can be found or who's the author?
Yeah same man! i felt really sorry for the dad, having lost his *spoiler*
dog, mum and job. And then he just punched him, said sorry then josh said no one will ever love you now :P so he ended punching the shit out of him. i love how he locked his bedroom door and then josh said but dad im scared and his dad just said go to bed and slammed the door in his face LOL

I love this movie...even if I'm a youngest daughter in my family...but I know about Josh'feels when they have new member and everybody do that like Josh to me...
I never told them but I leave my family ang living alone
I loved this movie. Especially the way they did the piano scene. The symbolism in that is amazing. How when he started to play twinkle twinkle little star, but then he gradually added wrong notes, to where it didn't sound like it anymore. How he was happy at first when the baby came, but then he gradually was loosing himself in his own sorrow, until it wasn't even him anymore. One of my favorites :)
Does anyone know where I can view a clip of the end song or at least get a sound clip of the end song? And by end song I mean the version sung by Joshua.
In a way he was kinda of neglected but not to a point where he hated his parents, the kid was a genius he never asked for anything but a book if you bothered to noticed. In the begginning they we're playing soccer. he was just standing there.. It's true the kid was sick...and creepy..
his genious wasn't nurtured enough. that's a specific kind of neglect this film's all about. all he ever wanted was to play piano with his uncle. there was no connection with his parents at all, in anything. that's another kind of neglect, a very real one.
you mean there was no abuse. that's something else.
The mom didn't really seem to want anything to do with him. I think she wanted to love him but she didn't know how because she had a real hard time when he was a baby to the point of post partum depression, the dad tried to bond with Josh but didn't understand him because they were too different.
@COWLICKPATTIES now what does this branding explains really? u probably also think it's just another not so successful horror movie. And the whole point of it just passes right by you. Isn't it just too bad to miss all its tragic complexities? Of course he's pathological, he is detached, non-empathic, self-focused, all but abandoned by his parents, making the terrible realization -at 9!- that he's two heads above them in most any respect, alone, desperate to make contact, to engage with ANYONE!
@aoeaoae acually its not about neglect joshua was a sociopath and master manipulater with a narsistic personality although that is all he wanted look what he did to get it and futher more how was he neglected all families go though change with a new baby
@hempjuggalo01 please scroll down the page and read. Branding and labeling - what does that explain? Nothing at all. Of course he was "ill-adjusted" which is another way to say "sociopath"; but why? How? In what way? What did he dream of, to what yearned?
narcissist... not. Narcissist is content with himself, has no reason to create. Real creation is always a painful quest. Joshua wasn't playing or composing his music in order to get ahead in life, right?
..It's called a library, you know a place where you can find any information he wanted. This kid wasn't neglected, his mind was decades past his age, he was a genus

Just watched the movie and unlike everyone else, I hated the ending. The song was really good and did explain a lot, but I think the uncle started giving him that look because Joshua could play the piano and it hit him that his brother in law may have been telling the truth about killing his mother. I felt the ending left me hanging! Did they report what they found in the room? What happens with the dad and mom. The sister went with who? It wasn't the uncle! All in all it was extremely creapy!
Uhm..The sister was sittig there in his livig room and they were looking at her and talking about her at the ed of the movie. THe sister stayed with the brother. A.k.a, went with the Uncle.
i wasn't being mean i was being truthful. And sometimes the truth hurts. i'm not going to sugar coat it. we need more of that in this world. but really if your nine go play outside. you'll miss those days.
I love the movie is creppy to see how this 9 years old kid made this perfect plan to stay with his uncle.. in fact I think he kills her grandma for staying with his uncle
first off if your nine you don't need to be on youtube, go play outside! and second you might be able to do this if your parents were morons and didn't have anything to with you like joshua if you are even smart enough to do that. But your ass would have been sent away along time before you'd be able you do this shit if i was your father.
Joshua's this psycho kid who does all this weird, sneaky stuff to make it look like his parents abuse him because he wants to live with his uncle instead (which is the "twist"). At the end, his mom's all crazy-ish, his dad's being charged with child abuse, and Joshua and his sister are living with their uncle, like Joshua always wanted. By the way, you wouldn't know the musical chord at the beginning of this video, would you?
Joshua felt neglected by his parents. The DID neglect him actually and when a baby sister was born, that added to his belief. His reaction to handling it was to set up his parents and set them up he certainly did.
In one part of the film he told his parents that he loved them before he went outside. Their response? Nothing. He was treated like just some 'element' living with them.
Yes. In the ending scene of the movie Joshua plays a part of this song on the piano and sings while his uncle is sitting next to him on the piano bench. If you listen to the lyrics of the song it describes the entire movie and his intentions. (The song was written for the movie) His uncle realizes this and gives him an unbelieving, rather fearful look. That's how the movie ends.
"this"? what do you mean by "this"? his intentions?
if i understand what exactly you mean, you mean his intentions to be with his uncle right? (SPOILER) or father really we are assuming. WHich is why he gives that freaked out look to Joshua at the end. He felt closest to his uncle because he was the only one who didnt try to make him into something he wasn't and who encouraged him because he probably knew that JOshua was his as well.
this kid was neglected, he walked on the streets of what ever city, idk what it was but it was pretty big, by himself, and he was only nine. his parents had no idea what he was doing. and he wouldn't have been able to set them up if he didn't have the ablity to look shit up on the internet, Parental Controls!!! he is nine i doesn't need to be looking shit up on the computer, give the kid a fucking gameboy.
lol i like that part too. But seriously that boy was fucking twisted. And at the end when the guys were packing everything and they say all the demented pictures, and the dead guneau pig ...that screams NOT NORMALL!! he could have said something. That little boy framed his parents and made them go crazy...even though the mom was already crazy...but still urgg i hate that little kid.
My favourite part of the whole movie is when the dad says "i think your sick" and josh just says "i dont feel sick, not at all". Get me everytime. Smart ass kid.
This was a very good movie, it was sad, but it was good, i felt terrible for josh, and his parents. the song is brilliant. i really would like to snag a copy of it.

Totally agree with that, he still felt kinda left out, specially when the new baby came by, still cant understand why the animals started dying.
Mainly its about the fact that every child deserves love and attention, and how he can start reacting if he doesn't have enough of that.
