@88472456 Also, sorry for the double post. i went and looked on halo.wikia briefly to see if anything would make sense. i saw that there was phosphorus in the planet ("Treshold") 's athmosphere while on the home planet of the elites (Sanghelios), there is some oxigen in the air. so it's possible that the elites needed oxigen supply to breath (hence the white steam caused by the chemical reaction between phosphorus and oxigen). My guess.
