Kirk's solos are comparable to Dave's. Marty's solos are comparable to God. Kirk and Dave haa a very similar style back then. While the Ride The Lightning solo is incredible, it has nothing on Tornado of souls. The complexity, the phrasing, the emotion. Amazing. Compare Dave's best solo (My Last Words) and Ride The Lightning. There you would have a good debate but Marty is just on another level.

It's got that minor pentatonic thing going in it, which is was Kirk usually abuses but for whatever reason he makes it sound awesome.

So no you fuckers, the Ride solo that you hear in the studio album is NOT written by Dave.

I'm sure that Dave uses a lot of the minor pentatonic as well but the Ride solo definitely has the signature Kirk sound to it.

Why do people insist that Dave wrote the RTL solo?

If you played the solo very slowly (or even better, play guitar) you'd probably recognise the repetitiveness and predictability of Kirk's stuff. But for whatever reason, this solo in particular sounds a lot better than his usual material.

if you listen to the early day's songs when dave was still in metallica, the first part of the solo is almost the same as the album version, but the second part is different, I have to say that I like hammet version, anyway , "comparing" whit TOS solo I got to say that marty's solo makes me feel awesome but when I listen RTL solo I feel I'm in METAL HEAVEN!!!!!! marty could play like a virtuoso whit all his awesome tecniques and exotic scales but kirk can just play the same just whit armonics

Kirk is generally a better musician, he knows his scales, riffs, and guitar theory, unlike my 2nd favorite guitarist.

@daberko120ch I do play guitar by the way, I exaggerated a bit when it came to the # of notes in his solos, but still a melodic solo sounds better to a musician(at least in my opinion) than shredding. Especially if you compare the first solo in Head Crusher(played by Dave) it looks and sounds very simple. Now if you look at lets say Master of Puppets the solo is fast but musically acceptable because he knows what notes to hit. Sorry to burst your bubble.
