  • ma grans name is sheila; always on the phone to her muthafucking deala

  • best pulp song

  • This video was just added to a music playlist at JustPlay.fm

  • An album unappreciated at the time. Listen to it now, effing excellent

  • I keep reading ignorant takes on how this album was critically panned upon its release. That may be true, but chances are it was just because those critics were in their '20s and didn't know what Jarvis was singing about until they got in their '30s.

Funny how it all falls away

  • @Transformersgeek most music critics have always been fuckwits, ignore them!

  • i had a boyfriend that he looks like Jarvis

  • Where can I get a pair of shades like Cocker's ?

  • Pulp is back!

  • I love Jarvis, he's got so much integrity which is so rare in the world of pop/rock. And he's the only one who still looks cool while going up in a stairlift lol.

  • I really hope this was filmed in a real home

  • Help the muthafuckin aged, don't just leave them in a mo'fo home.

  • What make is that Stairlift?

  • this song makes me think of my grandmother w/ alzheimer's...not an original idea, but buy flowers for people who are ALIVE. they can't much appreciate them dead.

  • help the asian, because once they we're just like you... help the asian

  • Lovely song, much like anything else this band has ever done.

  • @JannyDaBrat yes it is

  • this is a top song from an excellent band. I tend to forget how much i liked Pulp, then i stumble on them on youtube time after time and then sit and listen to all their songs all over again. Fuckin DIFFERENT CLASS man.

  • we saw jarvis opn stage once it was iornic someone thought they were jesus

  • hilarious. got to love Jarvis. the whole vid on a stanna stairlift, lol

    classic

  • My favourite Pulp song this.

  • God I love his song. And now I've just discovered the vid. Thanks.

  • I think there's too much compassion mixed with sly humor for this to be a revenge song. My opinion.

  • thats right, hes being mean to her because hes really jealous that shes out there having fun and he still has a thing for her...

  • john currin pictures, love this song :)

  • apparently this is a revenge song,

about meeting his father who left him when he was 5

  • no it isnt

  • @wobjob No, it's a Little Soul about his running into his da'.

  • He said he forgave his father after meeting him finally in Australia. Cocker said he just pitied him, so I don't know why he'd go write a revenge song.

  • What revenge song? If you mean Help The Aged is about his father you are wrong, it's about him having just turned 33 during the recording of This Is Hardcore and how he felt that he was old and over the hill.

  • I think you replied to the wrong person. : /

  • jarvis rocker... you kidding me

  • Seeing him tonight!!! WOOOOOO!!

  • this song makes me want to see my grandma

  • A proper Brit Pop song

  • I love this song, even though i'm only 28 and Jarvis is trying to convince girls my age to take crusty old buggers! :-)

  • I help the aged but the don't help me :(

  • love this vid. ive often wanted to record it and take it to work with me i work in an old folks home i want to put it in our front entrance so it would be playing when visitors etc walk in the door.

  • what a tune this is.

you can associate the term 'timeless classic' with this tune easily, when i first heard this I was my late teens and simply thought 'fair enough, message makes sense - nice tune too' and well, got on with life heh.

fast 4ward to 2009 and im not that same punk kid any more, and I truly appreciate and admire the message in this song...a unique track for its time and for our time too. Wonderful stuff by Pulp. 5/5 for this vid post.

  • 'You can die your hair, but it's the one thing you can't change - can't run away from yourself'

    What a legend

  • Soo-o underrated I saw these guys playing at some pub in Sheffield. The lyrics Jarvis puts in are so earthy, so real life. a Great British Band.

  • search 'r whites lemonade advert' - the dude looks just like jarvis in this video.

  • Oh I MISS Pulp :(

  • They've not split up...

  • They're the one the bands I really want to get back together. Even if just for the chance to see them live.

  • I´ve known the band from cca 1996. I´ve never seen them live too. What a pitty :-(

  • watch jarvis cocker on the ali g show you will piss your pants (help the aged-help the motherfucking aged lol)

  • i just watched it that was funny lol

  • where is kelly brook. they were better than oasis and blur.

  • that's probably her doing the slow-dance at 1:55 - 1:57

  • correct- kelly brook's tits were better than oasis and blur.

  • nO BIG DEAL!!!!!! sO GIVE US ALL A FEEEEALL!

  • god i love pulp

  • this is the music a grew up to from liek 3-7 then i started listening to hevy metal lol but i still love this it reminds me of been lil again :) when i was 5 i sung loads of pulp cast and lightning seeds at a karioke competion lol

  • Love, love, love this song. Pulp are the best Brit band eva, but help - there must be other Pulp fans in NZ!

  • There's one right here mate. I'm English but live in Auckland these days.

  • Yeah - im a NZer too!! i love 'em

  • God, Pulp is the shit.

Jarvis "I'm not Jesus" Cocker is so sexy.

And what the fuck was the end of that video? Did everyone go to Heaven and just get tossed out in the universe?

Fucking crazy coked out, this band.

  • Apparently the aged all have massive beards.

I love it. This is such a kickass video.

  • wow!! just love the way he moves..

  • superb record, excellent lyrics, original slant on an old subject

  • "Help tha mothafukin aged"

  • ketamine FTW

  • yeah help the aged.check me out on 'gypwin' on you tube

  • Good sound for a change.

    Makes things much better!

  • Javis cracks me up, he is sooooooooooo taking the piss. Brilliant.

  • Much as I love Pulp, there is a part of this song that sounds like a David Bowie track that I can't quite remember. Every time I hear this I half remember the Bowie track and it's driving me nuts. It's at the point where he sings something like "teach you stuff, although they may look rough". Anybody else know what I'm talking about? Help!

  • hi it may be rock n roll suicide not sure but hay still a flat out song .. yerrrrrr

  • I do believe this video has lots of references to a great file called "A matter of Life and Death" the tabletennis and the big circle things in the sky - classic.

  • oops I mean FILM !!!

  • David Niven - get in!

  • John McCain has this playing throughout his twelve homes.

  • fuckin geniouuus!

    gotta love pulp;)

  • help the aged

    *help the motherfucking aged*

one day they were just like you

*keep off the crack, keep off the crack*

  • Oh god, that's all I ever think of when I hear this song. Ruined for life!

  • what are you looking??????hmmmmmm?????

  • I remember 1st time I heard this...Id won tickets to the V festival in warrington-96 went with my GF and it was awsome man...this song ricked...

LOL the moon was a really cool cresent that njigt and Jarvis said "oh look at the moon over there, its like someone chucked a great big toenail clipping in the sky... horrid fest though it was crammed from the gates to the toilets-not pleasant and the bastards wouldnt let you have the lids on bottles of water or pop you bought. fucking branson LOl

  • i hate when people say pop !

  • we dont call it soda or pop.

  • great song.my kind of music

  • I think you have to listen only madonna, jarvis is so much for you :)

  • And you have no taste in Music. Better listen to Danii Minogue,he?

  • I mean cc6482 not memo604.

  • For someone who cannot hold a tune he and his pals have done alright for themselves. Can you say the same?

  • can you?

  • I think the song is talking not excluding "older folks" from the consideration of sexual partnership just based on their age. It might turn out to be satisfactory, or better!

  • Eh, no. It's about how youth doesn't last and that everyone gets old. If they're lucky. There's no hidden concept. I think you're just trying to justify your own granny/granda loving fantasies.

  • Anyone else think the bit with the stairlifts leaving the Earth is really beautiful?

  • i can't listen to this song now without wanting to add "help tha muthafukkin'aged" after the first bit...

  • you're not the only one ;)

"me nan is 63, her name be shiela..."

  • i agree - song's not the same without it :p

  • wtf are you guys talking about?

  • watch?v=ukDS4P4aKo4

  • They're talking about a duet (of sorts) that Jarvis did with Ali G.

  • oh I love this song SO MUCH!

  • do you have a love calculator advert?

  • Probably the greatest band with the greatest philosophy.

  • Wow, a song about aging! must be a first for rock music. I'm turning 49 this year. Jarvis should relax, a person can stay young inside, just the body changes, really!

  • I read some articles with Jarvis speaking about this song and as I recall it was a cheeky reference to him starting his thirties. as much as it is a nice homage to OAPS...He was just really anxious about losing his twenties )see also "Dishes" where he moans about being 33

  • I can't sop thinking that all the old people were like me once; young, full of energy, eager for learning and achievements, and how many many stories will never heard and in the inetability that we all are going to the same place.... this song speaks the truth

  • This song is awesome!

  • My favourite Pulp song.

  • this song will always make me cry! how many of our parents/grandparents are put in these institutions (and stateside, how many are abused/neglected by a dysfunctional system)...they loved us when we were young and invalid, love them as they love you when they need you most.

  • why should we. we don't need them anymore, a sad fact but true, only joking.

Never understood how anyone can put there parents in a home, Must be a Yorkshire thing, Whilstever I can walk my parents will not go to a home.

  • put them in a home is not bad, actually my mom wants to live in one. The thing is leave them alone there, throw them like rubbish.

  • In England we had a lovely care assistant called Beverly Alett, and another kind hearted doctor called Harold Shipman; I believe that he is the world's greatest serial killer with over 200 notches on his stick, so I am probably a little biased.

  • maybe you are, but I can understand your point under those circumstances...fortunatelly, that doesn't happen very often...right?

  • That's pretty paranoid...this country is not full of serial killers - you would be very unfornuate to fall victim to one.

  • I may hear this singer very much with pleasure, although he is goofy! But this is his art!

  • Jarvis is a fuqqin god. Pulp fan 4 life.

  • Love it when that guitar kicks in for the first chorus. Used to listen to this over and over. Jarvis is a legend!

  • You gotta play it loud though

  • Love this song, especially the 'don't put me in a home' line - the whole song touches a nerve.

  • Brilliant!

    Thanks Jarvis.

    Yes this song about aging.

Funny how the young guys sings about aging ;D

  • HEHEHE that's a great video... "Don't put them in a mo'fo' home"

  • "u look like like a kiddy fiddler"

    ali g is god

  • do you want the true meaning of music and style?

    the answer is PULP

  • I want to write songs
