The vise lifted before it even made a x y move. I've never had a vise lift in my live. I'm curious as to what was in the spindle, weather it be an endmill, or say a 2" indexable mill. That's just pure stupidity.
Damn, that thing took some time to alarm out. Once did that with a 3/4 endmill at 1500 rpm on HRS. Accidently left out a G01 where my last movement was a G00. Needless to say, i never seen a carbide endmill explode like that.
dryrun with machine lock on would have prevented this. and after that dryrun with imaginanry pice " floating in the air" would have saved you from this very expensive crash. always double or triple chek every thing, nice crash tho.
Wow! I've seen lots of fireworks from the tool or evan the holders, but never from the spindle taper itself. Must have been alot of damage on that one. Every operator, setup man, programer, and machinist alive has done(or will do) some kind of crash like this. CNC or manual. I guess the machine is not new no more!
Hearing that spindle just made me cringe. I wouldn't even tell anyone. Just clock out and go back to McDonalds. I've seen a 2" carbide endmill shatter into dust. Thank god the supervisor did and not me.
@drummerboy67003 Yes that's true, just start pushing your toolbox out the door!! And yes, it's usually the supervisor or boss that does the stupid shit like this! That's how they become supervisor's.
Holy crap that moved the whole vice !!! Big crash lol,I had a high speed drill shatter into my stomach once messed up the z axis. had no glasses on was so lucky
It's easy to joke about this happening, but the machine tool company should look into the design of its user interface. If the interface were designed properly it should be very hard to do this. For example in a machine this expensive how many % extra would it cost to install 3D scanners to look at the tooling and setup and avoid this? I'm thinking one "save" would be worth it. Also, setup would be faster because people wouldn't take so long checking with a machine backup.
