If you VH fans prefer Roth over Hagar (sadly to you I prefer Hagar), why didn't their albums with Roth go to number 1 which the ones with Hagar did? Hypocrites.
@MrPman851 - Wasn't it with "1984" that Van Halen reached another level of fame? That album didn't go #1 because of "MJ's Thriller" .. no album ever made would have putit down from it's spot on the charts. As far as I know.. Van Halen 1 och 1984 are the bands best selling albums to date. I like the work with Sammy plenty.. but it's songs like "Hot for Teacher", "Runnin' with the Devil", "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", "Eruption" and "Jump" that always be the most famous from Van Halens legacy.
@GeorgVanHalen, true. However, some people believe that the most famous songs aren't always the best. The songs with Roth are terrific but sometimes overplayed. Some people are tired of hearing "Jump" and "Runnin' With The Devil" over and over and over again after hearing them at least 50,000 times for the past 30 years.
@MrPman851 - I agree. I believe about 90 % of all material from Van Halen is good enough and suitable on radio.. still it's just the same songs over and over. Some of their best songs was with Hagar aswell. I personally think "Pleasure Dome" is the most underrated song they ever did. The only thing I don't like about the Hagar-era is that the albums has more "fillers".. but that's hardly Sammy's fault.
@GeorgVanHalen, "5150" and "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" are my 2 FAV Van Hagar albums. But I like all 5 albums (counting the live album "Right Here Right Now" in 1993) VH did with Hagar. You're correct about the filler not being Sam's fault. You know how Eddie can be.
The music def. got more complex after Dave left, and Sammy was a better singer, and they had all #1 records with Sam. I like Dave better, but I gotta say as a band and in live performance the edge goes to Sam they were spot on every night. Dave was sloppy and trashed every night and the band sounded like a running freight train live, not that there's anything wrong with that.
