I disassembled as per video to reseat my LCD cable from the NO POST code Num and Scroll light flashing Caps solid. Once assembled system only attempts to power up on battery only, AC no longer from what I can see is supplying power to motherboard, I didn't touch anything remotely around where the AC cord plugs to the motherboard. Any ideas? Still have black screen with same flashing codes, does it sound like video card replacement time as now possibly a motherboard? Any info would be greatly ap
I have a major problem Britishdude! My Alieanware M17X wIll not boot up. I took out the battery and and unplugged the cord. connected the cord back (no battery) and held start up button for 30 sec. w/ no success. Even started laptop with Battery no cord and still nothing. Have not done anything to Laptop since it 1st was unpacked. All I get is a black screen at starup with keyboard lighted. I don't even get a flicker on the display when I try rebooting. tried Fn +B, Kept pressing F6, F7,F8.HELP!
@yum499 it's really not a big risk as long as you're not standing on a carpet or wearing large amounts of clothing. Grounding yourself once before starting is good enough.
If you're working on a customer's computer on the other hand, then you want to take every possible precaution against freak accidents, but if you know what your doing you can be sufficiently comfortable with doing it without a wristband.
ok everybody im just going to help you with this since i had a problem. After you take out the hard drives, and put them back to start the computer, it will probably say that the operating system is missing. so go to f2 (BIOS) -> advanced ->Change to RAID -> then enable both hard drives. not everybody will have a problem with this, so if you do, just follow these steps then bam your back on
@Alsax1985 I doubt it's the hard drive. A bad HDD would be causing different problems. If one of the cards is bad, you could try removing the slave and seeing if the problem improves. While your at it try reseating both cards as well in the slot. Are you sure you had it in SLI to begin with? You have to activate SLI in the nvidia control panel. If you never did that then maybe SLI was never running.
Also -- if one of the cards is bad, is there a way to tell, and a way to manually fix it? I'm going to try putting it back in, maybe it was slotted wrong or something, because my performance now is the same as it was when it was supposedly in SLI.
Hey Britishdude, your video helped me. The Torx screws were irrelevant in taking mine apart.
I was running into a flickering/freezing problem, along with splotches coming up on my screen... or my screen flickering into a solid, vivid color. I was using SLI 260Ms (still excellent cards even with my outdated Core 2 Duo T9600 CPU - which bottlenecks them)... well, come to find out, my secondary card was bad. All I did was follow your video and remove my secondary one and now I'm good to go.
I'm removing my 260M cards to troubleshoot my video issues (freezing, screen distortion, etc.) and need one of those T-socket bits (star-shaped). Which one fits? T6 or smaller?
@Alsax1985 I'm not-quite sure. There aren't any Torx screws in my laptop - only varying philips screws. Might be because we have different video cards, GTX 260m vs 4870 mobility, but all my screws are philips.
When i was taking apart my xbox, I ran into a similar problem. There were Torx screws and I didn't have the right size screw driver. I ended up taking the xbox to Home Depot and trying out which screw drivers fit before I bought it.
@litenfyr5 I'm not 100% sure it will, but it might. Alienware is pretty liberal when it comes to customers fiddling around with their laptops so, there's a chance it won't.
How did you get the adapter ?

@Britishdude1 Hey do you know if there's any difference between the R1 and R2 keyboard? Would a keyboard protector for the R2 fit an R1?
1Pantikian 2 months ago
waoh, If I were you I'd where a static wrist band to prevent shock between you and the components! D:
