  • I sort of like this word "cadre" alongside with another French borrowing in English "naïveté".

  • Negativity is contagious.

  • @Renegade23456

Your Sgt's were misinformed then. My Cadet Corps has taken off in numbers and they are having more fun than they've ever had before. 5 years ago, this unit was 20 Cadets at best. Since taking over the training at my Corps and with the implementation of the Cadet Program Update almost complete, we now parade up to 90 cadets on a given night.

The negative attitude and outlook starts with the way your officers and senior NCO's perceive the change and like enthusiasm, this negativi

  • “The aim of the Cadet Program is to develop in youth the attributes of good citizenship and leadership, promote physical fitness and stimulate the interest of youth in the sea, land and air activities of the Canadian Forces."

  • CIC= Civilians in Combats

  • @Renegade23456 CIC = Adults giving their time to young people to keep them out of the streets.

I have done my time with the infantry and now going as a CIC, I think I have given more to this country than most people. You can judge all you want, but I feel that what I am doing is right.

  • @GabTheDrummer

That i am okay with but having random civilians mostly parents come off the street and becoming CIC's are slowly destroying the Cadet program

  • @Renegade23456 I know what you mean but you most give credit to those parents, ready to give time to other kids too.

And what i ffel is destroying the Cadets program is the Canadian society. They are so scared of having young soldier( they never understood the purpose of the program) that they are creating second hand scouts. I do not agree with all that is going on right now with the program. The way they withdrew the parade guns and they have gotten softer on the discipline.

  • @Renegade23456

I happen to be a CIC, never was a soldier, was a cadet in the 80's. I put more time in to this program than I do my own job. I do not do it for money, prestige or to parade around in a uniform. I do this for my country and for the youth who live in it, including my own 3 children. I do agree that the prgm has become lax, but the world is changing and Canada leads in that change.

My question to you is,"Why should we be focusing on developing young soldiers?"

  • @keogge

Because that is the whole point of the program

  • @Renegade23456

No, it is not the whole point of the program. We are to stimulate the interest of youth in the sea, land and air activities of the Canadian Forces; not create a 12 year old soldier. Check out cadets.ca

  • @keogge

That's not exactly the point what i had originally meant it just came out wrong. When i was younger the whole reason i joined the Cadet program was because i wanted to serve in the Canadian forces, The first year i joined it was great, we did frequent FTX's and there was more of a military influence. sadly as i went into my later years the cadet program did less and the reason for that was as one of my old Sergeants would say " were not allowed doing it anymore."

  • @keogge

So cadets has turned into an over hyped version of Boy scouts

  • @Renegade23456

Well, call it as you like.

    When were you a cadet?

  • @keogge

  • @Renegade23456

Well, you were at the heart of the change... We still have Exchanges and Basic Para among all other specialized training the Scouts do not have. Oh, and it is still free.. Still the best youth program in the world and will be for a long time to come... Should still consider coming on as a CIC...

Great chatting with you Renegade 23456...

  • Considering that over 45% were from the reg forces and that they hold a Quee's Commission then I think any soldier should respect them. Who else volunteers a ton of time to help out youth like that only to be snubbed by "real" soldiers????? rejetonpower, what do you volunteer at to make Canada a better place? And don't tell me about any rotos you've done or medals you've got. I joined the Forces in 86 back when it was a dirty word and no pay for crap, probably before you were born!
