This was played at my Grandad's funeral on Saturday. We were all there wearing something claret and blue. Watching my dad put his scarf on his coffin was heart-breaking but it was the best send off he could have had. RIP George William Jones, a true Claret and Blue blooded man. UTV.
This is amazing! I have heard this piece of music many times over the years (although not at Villa Park!) and never knew what it was until just now. It can be found on the Hurricane Smith album 'Don't let it die - the very best of Hurricane Smith' and is on Amazon where it can be purchased or downloaded.
What a fantastic video, you have a clear sense of all memories treasured by Villa fans. I'd love to have seen a shot of Birchy and McInally too but that's splitting hairs. Sheer class mate. Here's to the next 140 years.
This brings back so many memories of those early 80's European nights with Villa "Get yer prayer mats out!" "Goal at Villa Park".. over to George Gavin!" "Tony Morley.. turned him one way, then the other!"
ok...I'm a yid....but I'm 50. In had hooped for a trip down memory lane with this but for some strange reason.....I see Barry....now man shity.....etc....
Why not pics from the era.
Like the Spurs sites.....why are there no old passionates who regard the old days as sacrocanct!
yes i used to love this music when the villa boys came out in the early 70's.gave me goosebumps when i new they were coming out as my old man sat me on the holte bars.most vivid memory was of john gidman flicking the ball over his head while running down line to warm up ,great memories up the villa
The Holte End was the most magical place in the world as a teenager, even though we were shit I just loved the place & miss those days & all being mad for the day.
I just learned that Norman Smith died yesterday, aged 85. He also engiineered 99% of the Beatles' 1962-1965 output, and produced many early Pink Floyd records. (And did LOTS more!) RIP, Norman!
When I started going down the Villa in the 70's, they played this everytime the boys ran out. Sheer quality. Holte would go wild, away team already on the pitch would be struck with fear. Bring it back !
totally agree.remember my first ever match in 82 against man ure stood on the old "V" floodlight in the holte end an the lads coming out to this.fucking class.sends shivers down the spine listening to it now.
Listened to this all the way back from Old Trafford in 77 thinking about Chris Nicholl's wonder goal.

You can also buy Hurricane Smith's album that has this track and others. If you like this, you might like his other music.

Ahh, love this song! Now played on the Villa Podcasts.
Although I must say the Arcade Fire song they play before the matches adds a superb atmosphere.
