It's common knowledge that Praying mantis (females) eat the males while copulating, that was one of the facts Mameshiba gave. Unless food is mixed with saliva you can't taste it, that is true and another fact Mameshiba gave us. The food has to be wet (by saliva) in order for you to taste it. The tongue has taste buds and it's wet with saliva because that enables chemical digestion, food has to be wetted by saliva

That the food gets wet by saliva is a natural consequence in the mouth also. And another thing, when we don't want to taste something, like medicine or pills we swallow really quick or just drop it at the back of our throat. We do that so we don't taste the bitterness of the pills. Because once it's wet, its bitter taste leaks into the mouth.
