I am almost sure they are playing in the region of Villa Mella or Mata Los Indios but the rhythm is no CONGO. The congo is played with a very particular wood clave called Canoita, a small drum: Conguito and a bigger one called congo Mayor. Plus other instruments maintained from the Tainos las maracas.

But overall all the Latin food is called Spanish because it is the common trait, some Spanish countries don't have as big an African influence as Dominicans, so just live with it and stop hating. And it is a fact, and this has been proven by many well educated Dominicans! They downplay their African ancestry! In fact it was Trujillo's fault that the negation and denial of African roots of DR is so bad! Also in the cédula national ID cards many of the so called Afro/black Dominicanos are labelled as Indios and think of themselves as such! Go figure! Of course there are many Dominicanos out there who have no problem with their true selves and don't deny things!

Yes, everyone eats rice, we are all human beings, but it doesn't mena we're all the same, it's not that we live it's the way we live, its about the culture and It's not what we eat, it's the way we eat it. Rice always comes with beans. Everyone knows thats' a Latino staple, mostly from the carribean. It happens because of our mixed culture and influences. Rice comes from europe, beans come from the native tainos.

RDpapichulo the term African-Dominican is heard in some places in D.R. Where I'm from in San Pedro de Macoris they use the term also cocolos is used a lot. These are dominicans that came from the british west indies to the D.R.

Wow!!! Those little Dominicans are drummin' their asses off. Their is no denying that Dominican Republic, Cuba and Puerto Rico have alot of African influence in their culture although some people don't want to admit it or are just plain ashamed of it for some crazy reason. The Palo and Lucumi(Santeria) religions are proof of the African culture that have been preserved in those caribean islands.

First of all Kemetkush, I'm a proud Dominican-American of mix race. I don't deny it but I have african and european blood running through my veins. I've been living in the states for many years but never forgotten my Dominican roots. As in the states many people do not get along beacause of skin color or race. I don't deny it you might see this type of behavior in the Dominican Republic "but" is not as bad as in the United States.
