When I was 16 years old and my parents were separating, I would walk down the street and sing this song. It probably stopped me from doing something stupid. The positive affirmation has followed me through my life. This song is a core feature of my heart.
@imcoollikeful go away you arrogant little ponce.if you were in front of me now i'd lamp you with a copy of the blue vinyl version of pepper right across that lump of wood you call a head
@MrBudgieman1 No, this song is Paul's and he wrote it because a drummer that once replaced Ringo when he was ill kept saying "getting better" whenever he was asked how he thought the rehersals were going.
@Helmut83 Yeah that was inspiration but the part where he says "
I used to be cruel to my woman
I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved
Man I was mean but I'm changing my scene" was written cause Paul beat is gfs in the past even said himself, "I was a hitter. I couldn't express myself, and I hit"

@333ferret there's nothing wrong with Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber or pop music. The beatles are all about peace not bashing others opinions on music or other artists.
I don't buy that. If someone is determined to do something, a song isn't going to stop them. People like you only "attempt suicide" for attention. Example of what I mean: "I was going to have sex, but then I listened to a Beatles song and changed my mind."
@zkemppel You're right. This song wasn't the only thing that caused it. Maybe I didn't feel like delving into my emotional complexities in a youtube comment, but if you must know, the real effect this song had on me was enlightening me to how good my life actually was when I thought all was lost. So it's not the only thing. But it helped. Keep on feeling superior to me if you like, though. Glad to help you feel better about yourself. :D
didn't help me at all haha, I feel great about myself, maybe that's why I'm not understanding your situation bro. Anyways, I'm done hatin, this songs awesome so lets all just enjoy it.
Chill, bro. I know they were ALL geniuses. But as it so happens this song was strictly the works of Lennon and McCartney. You wouldn't take "Here Comes The Sun," and say YEAH PAUL MCCARTNEY'S BRILLIANT, Because even though he is... it's George's song. You can't take Ringo's drumming in Helter Skelter and say JOHN LENNON'S AMAZING because not that he isn't, but this is RINGO.
@itsalwaysindacustard Well, Frank Sinatra did it once, when talking about "Something". He said "the best song from Lennon-McCartney". He was ashamed later on when he found out it was George who had written it.
Paul wrote this while walking with Hunter Davies on Primrose Hill. It was cloudy, overcast, and quite grim. Storm clouds threatening near by. The way Hunter tells it . . . Paul said to him "It's getting better." while looking at the gray skies. Then Paul said, "I've got to believe it's getting better." and finally, "It's getting better all the time." By the time they got back to Paul's house the song was written.

You know I find it weird that such a loved song is about Wife Abuse and how things are getting bettter but I absoloutly love this song, such an awesome bass and brilliant lyrics, suppose that The Beatles for you though, I'm actually disapointed that I didn't grow up with this music rather than the crap nowadays :D
I think this was Paul's ode to weed. I remember listening to this when I was 5, and it always made me feel like well, it can't get worse...Still has the same effect 26 years later.
you people really dont get it. you who dont like the beatles and you who hate those for not. the real message to most beatles songs if not all is peace and love. wether you hate the beatles wether you hate everything i like even wether you hate me i wish you nothing but peace and love.
absolutely brilliant song in its totality: lyrics, beat, accompaniment and of course the glorious vocals and harmonies -- but -- for me, McCartney's bass playing is SO intelligent, SO harmonically and rhythmically advanced, I marvel at it now, how many - 40, 50 years later?
I learned so much bass guitar from Paul's first class work, and his playing was ceratinly a prime influence on my decision to concentrate on that instrument -- thanks, Paul
Damn, this explains the past 2 months of school for me when I didn't have a boyfriend. Now I do have a boyfriend and everything is... well... BETTER! :]

so it is a good song except for those circumstances.

@peterjlay well, rap is shit. it takes NO talent to be a rapper. all u have to do is be black and talk about shooting people, drugs, or having sex. thats not music, its stupidity that rhymes.
thats extremely stereotypical. I hate rap, but it does take talent, and its not all about all of that stuff. I really hate rap, but i give all musicians credit when credit is due.
@SuperHorsedick101 next time, think twice before you post ignorant generalizations like this. The Beatles are the greatest band of all time, but don't forget what they stood for. While some hip hop music raps about getting shot, it is because rappers get shot! Every form of music has artists on drugs and having lots of sex.
@SuperHorsedick101 that completely untrue. The Beatles are one of my favorite bands ever, and yet i still appreciate rap . . It's simply different. You sir are a musical snob :P
@SuperHorsedick101 Rap is a different story, hip hop however is shit. Listen to Ooh Ah by Grits or Changes by Tupac. There's meaning in rap, but hip hop is mainstream.
@peterjlay Many things require skill, being able to put 50 spiders in your mouth requires a type of talent. But when you are comparing art, I dont think you can come up with any rapper which could compare with the beatles.
@OropherThranduil oh so i guess u think that faked synthesized horse shit lil wayne makes is music? or maybe ur more into those gay justin beiber love song huh? at least the beatles didnt need forty thousand dollares worth of equipment just to turn their voices into something worth listening to. they made real fucking music with real motherfucking insruments. shut the fuck up before i hack ur IP n find u so so i can shove a guitar up ur fuckin ass, u ignorent peice of shit.
@OropherThranduil oh so i guess u think that faked synthesized horse shit lil wayne makes is music? or maybe ur more into those gay justin beiber love song huh? at least the beatles didn't need forty thousand dollers worth of equipment just to turn their voices into something worth listening to. they made real fucking music with real motherfucking instruments. shut the fuck up before i hack ur IP n find u so so i can shove a guitar up ur fuckin ass, u ignorent piece of shit.
@cuddleyduddley I'm 16. I love most rock music from 1960 up until 1995, I agree with what you say about my generation. All this rap and pop trash? These fake little boy bands pretending to be rock? It's just bad. Also, why does "music" in today's age convey such horrible messages? Degenerated society we live in.
The Cat In The Hat was an awesome movie. Just like this band, it deserves 90,000 guitars out of 90,001

@SuperHorsedick101 next time, think twice before you post ignorant generalizations like this. The Beatles are the greatest band of all time, but don't forget what they stood for. While some hip hop music raps about getting shot, it is because rappers get shot! Every form of music has artists on drugs and having lots of sex.
kshintaku13 1 year ago
