5 GREAT DOCUMENTARY,,,,i;ve read some of the comments here and dont understand how far off ppl on the whole can be,,,i dont know where the idea came from there poppy fields are gone my stepson was,hurt in a scurmish,,and sent home last yr,,,from afganistan and he has hudreds of hours of live footage ,,showing us army personel to leave it alone and stay away from it after they were told thats why they were their,,,

This is a good doc.

I saw it on Journeyman Booserver. I payed 5 EUR for a week of free access to all there docs. A good deal, I think. Will probably do it again at a later date.

Only complaint I have is that some newer docs are in letterbox format (sides, top and bottom are not the full size of the screen) when set to fullscreen. This doc is in 4:3 format when in fullscreen which is logical and okay on my widescreen considering the doc is from the age of old tube televisions.

Soviet lost because of America and Pakistan. The bases for training the Mujahideen by Americans were all in Pakistan.

Afghanistan is maybe of strategic importance but its not worth money or the blood split by both sides.

Afghanistan's production of opium was minuscule before the war, compared to the amount grown now. Taliban kept it in check through harsh means. No more Taliban, no more fear of being killed for growing it. Hence the huge increase in 2002-presnt of cheaper purer heroin in Canada, America (east of the rocky mountains), and Europe (most of it).

About the Taliban Opium -

Well initially Taliban actually didn't care about heroin growth for 1994-1999. They actually were part of the Heroin trade. They traded like 5% or something like that only. The rest were owned by drug warlords.  After 2000 their leader declared the eradication of opium poppy fields. They got rid of like 90% . Taliban reduced there % of trade further but in the end Taliban controlled the Opium trade during the 2000-2001.
