  • No doubt... He's the greatest living artist!

  • Rael Imperial Aerosol kid right there....nuff said

  • uyyyyyyyyyyyyyy temon por peter graciasssssssssss

  • If he makes a cover, then only 100 percent. Wonderful song. Wonderful cover.

  • I wish I never heard this. My respect for Peter just dropped a couple notches. I'm sure he doesn't care tho. Fucking hippy tripe song.

  • Gooey-Jam need to lern da inglasy. They tried to book Lennon, but they couldn't dig him... UP.

  • Imagine there's no people, fighting on youtube

  • @mrhenrythehorse Im. Poss. I. Ble.

  • fantastic!

  • Peter - der grösste

  • da kann lennon von Träumen...so grossartig war er nie...was für ein Peter

  • @worldcitizenforever : OK, after that reply, I now know I can't possibly talk any sense into you. All I ask is you use the interwebs and read a bit about Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road. Read up on Gabriel's recording techniques, then read up on The Beatles recording techniques, 20 years earlier. THEN contact your man Pete and ask HIM how he feels about The Beatles.

  • @worldcitizenforever : I may be 6 months late here, but I had to respond to your troll comment. I love Peter Gabriel. But even he would admit he isn't fit to trim John Lennon's toenails. No, seriously. You're probably too young to realize that just because a band is incredibly popular doesn't mean they're a sellout. It just means they're fucking incredible.

  • This should be a World Anthem. All the Naysayers who just see this a some pop song be damned. You miss the message. You miss a lot.

This is a great rendition...and this is a Stage it should be sung on.

  • @nascargas I couldn't freaking agree more! Everytime I hear this song I think it should be a world anthem. Instead of trying to push your political, religious, personal views on everyone else just live as you believe fit and ethical and this world would be a much better place.

  • Great version, but lets leave the mocking of lennon and gabriel to a minimum. Both are great talents and there is no need of comparison between them

  • I find it funny that people say that this is pop ballad and lennon is shit, when Peter Gabriel is mainstream just like the rest of them.

    :/

  • @dano555666 I don't know what you're talking about, Peter Gabriel was an outkast in the 80's, he even experimented with World music.

  • @esca8652 Well I don't know about "experimented". Damn near every song he's released since the 80's has some sort of "world" music in it. Mostly African seeing as how he's so involved with humanitarian efforts whenever he's not touring or recording. Plus experimented seems to imply he did it for a while, but it didn't work. I love the long/live versions of In Your Eyes because of all the African drumming and melodies he has in it. He has been very successful with "world music". Go Peter!

  • @BioPhreak He's experimented with Industrial. You're right a lot of his stuff after "So" had an increasingly influenced world music appeal to it.

  • I loved peter gabriel's version of Imagine it needs no comparison to John Lenonon's because each version offers something unique from the performer.

  • differant. but peter is so awsome it grows on ya! thanx for the post!

  • no he doesn't. He cant sing. He CANT SING. If he could, he would, and the substantial backup vocals would not be needed

  • @guijam94

Awww, come on. Search "Peter Gabriel KC June 18, 2011 Rhythm of the Heat" and tell me the man doesn't still have a strong voice.

  • The words still say what John Lennon sang to us for so many years and I finally heard them the first time this year in my awakening. >>>Love the nice low voice of Peter in this one. Truly beautifully done. Peace and Love to your all.

  • Neil Young's version is better ...

  • Grande pezzo, Grande interprete!

  • Great performance by Mr. Gabriel.

  • It is disturbing the level of ignorance that people like you display. On screen is the olympic logo, the description of this performance states that this is at the opening of the Olympics in Torino....Italy.

Apparently some do care as Mandela has been recognized by world leaders for years. Biko's death helped unify the world to fight against apartheid. Your comments represent the type of mind that creates prejudice and hatred. Imagine all the people living life in peace.

  • "Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz and what 3rd world shitehole was this in aid of?"

    Uhmmm, Italy.

  • Good version I think. Amusing to see David Rhodes miming with Levin's bass ;o)

  • thats why he said imagine fool

  • I actually saw this performance before I heard any music by Gabriel or Genesis, and I distinctly remember thinking it was an awful rendition performed by a strange old man who tried to cover up his balding head by wearing his swim cap on stage. Now I think it's awesome, being a great fan of both Lennon and Gabriel. Not a very inventive choice of song, though.

  • What - not a very inventive choice of song??? It's a great choice as this was done during the Olympics. Perfect song for the cicrcumstances.

  • It just seems to me they all play Imagine at every possible event. Lennon is a hero to me, and so is Gabriel, so i was thinking it would be great hearing Gabriel interpreting a Lennon song not as commonly covered as Imagine. But of course, there IS a reason "they all play Imagine", it's a beautiful song with lyrics that fit in to almost every possible occasion. I really wonder how I could not like it back in 2006! I guess a teenager of today needs time to learn to fully appreciate his style :)

  • I know what you mean, man. In 2007, when I first discovered PG/Genesis, I was 12...and god, I thought to myself, all this Phil Collins stuff is interesting, but everything before ATOTT (PG era) is just too weird, it's terrible!!! But I gave it another chance a year later, and now, Peter Gabriel is also one of my "heroes," and Gabriel-era genesis is my favourite band, with prog being my absolute favourite type of music. Amazing what he can do to you. :p

  • I know exactely what your saying DomV, I was around 13 (in 1980) when I realised that backtracking from 'Duke' etc took me into 'Selling England' and 'The Lamb'. I had heard PG era songs on 'Seconds Out' and then really understood how incredible the Peter era was. Genesis Live 73 is one of my all time favourite albums.

  • Hohoooh...I have everything from 69-83 studio, but I haven't heard a lot of live stuff besides bootlegs...Someone just recommended Seconds Out to me, and I seriously intend to get both live '73 and Seconds Out.

  • Good stuff - these are a must!! Particularly Firth of Fifth (Hackett guitar solo) and Suppers Ready (Apoc 9/8 section) on Seconds Out and the whole of the 73 live album. I just love the Music Box and Get Em Out by Friday on the Live album.

  • Heheh...I am waiting, however, for the remastered versions that are due to come out soon. Apparently the live albums are going to get all kinds of bonus tracks.

  • there is a genesis museum site that has some great downlodable concerts.

  • Are you talking about "The Movement?"....what is the url? That sounds really cool.

  • he's dressed like he is about to join a hostage rescue team. but it's better than being in a jacket with light bulbs like the time I saw him last! He is the man, so if he wants to dress like a ninja, more power to him i guess. I wonder what he wears at home just lounging around.

  • I love Peter, his voice didn't do this song justice... maybe I'm so used to John Lennon. Maybe if he'd sung it up higher in his voice? I'm not knocking it, I love it. Just think he should have put more into it. He is a dreamer, that's for sure. Where is this? Anyone know? And yes, I'll join that religion.....

  • yeah, not his best

  • I'm going to start a religion based on the songs of Peter Gabriel and John Lennon!

    Anyone care to join? :-)

  • funny, and you use their lyrics as your scriptures, and you end up using "we do what we're told" and "shock the monkey" as your key texts.

  • Bloody hell - he looks like Ming the Merciless here!

  • Esplèndida versió! Gràcies per compartir-la.

  • GOD!!!!

  • LOVE THIS SONG!!!

    Peter made it GREAT!!!
