i sell parrots but my farm is small and all of my chicks are handfeed and cared and played with like a normal house bird but this video is just sad these people don't have love for birds this is NEGLECT
I purchased my cockatiel from a bird store and He is still a baby. The store lets me come in everyday to play with the bird at a very early age. He is 2 months old, can step up really well, and is very confident around people. I love my bird and cannot wait to take him home. I already have a big cage and toys for him. Good thing my home office is where he is being kept so I get to play with him all day everyday.
All rite here is my 50 cents if we didnt have bird breeders we would lose many of the birds 2day like the hyacintth macaw the thick bill (the only parrot in that came from the usa) I have been breeding birds 4 many years and seen alot of bad things i have alway seen alot of geat things 2. like the queens and crisom come back in large numbers. We breed more than the wild well ever do. The key is 2 try 2 raise healther bigger stronger babies. but i do think that are should be laws on housing
@whitebreaddrew Laws on housing alone just isn't enough, there just isn't any need to breed birds on such a mass scale - of any kind, so they might be harder to obtain, but any person who wants a bird bad enough should be willing to be dedicated, to ensure that breeder birds don't have to endure abuse like this. All those birds sat in bare cages right now with god knows what injuries and no toys, no socialising, approved personal small number breeders are fine, mass breeding should be illegal.
I do rescue work. People often tend to buy from breeders because some rescues make it feel impossible to obtain a parrot. Ive seen some that make you feel like you have to sign your soul over to the devil. Responsible breeding in small amounts is fine. NO one should have 500 pairs of any animal. Responsible breeding=proper care to all animals, proper food, water, clean environment, routine vet care for all animals you own even breeders. And proper stimulation not just toys also interacting time.
omg i had no idea there are bird mills. i only knew about dog mills not bird ones. this is soo sad:( those poor birds im not buying any bird from a pet store any more!
My husband and I took in our first rescue just over a year ago. A greencheek conure who was less than 24 hours old and left to die by the owner of the parents. We now have TWO rescue greencheeks, one rescue Sun conure, one rescue Quaker, and EIGHT rescue cockatiels.
no species that has a good wild population should be bred for captivity. its just not right.
all sentiments aside though, unhealthy (they are pumped full of meds when they arent sick, making them resistant to meds), unhappy (no stimulation at all), bad looking (feather plucking and illness), unsocialized (with that many, none of them would get proper tameness) means unhappy customers. therefore huge shelter overflows. and not to mention theyll never buy another bird
Looks like the feeder schute with cob webs is on an empty cage maybe in a garage? Feather plucked birds are a problem everywhere. Whoever filmed this seems real fasinated with auto-matic water systems. Flight cages are HUGE and under trees. Birds that came in the country before they stopped importations usually don't like things like toys hanging over their heads. Most just like to chew wood/branchs, etc. Enrichment
These bird needs companions, in the WILD they have each other. These are stuck in TINY cages, noboby to bond with. Just one bird. These are flock birds. Get your info straight before you bash someone who believes whats right!
waching this video makes me sad for the american pet trade but somehow happy that parrots (pets in general) got it mutch better here in sweden. i hope ppl break into ther area and steal the parrots from them.
i had no idea these existed till recently. sickins me to think that they are treated like the dogs and cats in mills. poor lil soles need people to care an love them. poor things. makes me sick how people treat animals now a days..i have 4 birds. i rescued every one of them. except 1 that was givin to me.
I worked in parrot rescue for over 10 years.....this is sadly just a small portion of the neglect, abuse and usery of this pet trade ;; Could someone tell me the name of the group and the song used with this video. The song is an amazing fit.
I have been to many "rescues" that look like this as well... very poor conditions and charging excessive "adoption fees." No matter where you get your companion animal, get to know the breeder/operator and look at how they keep their animals. I'm a proud breeder and my birds have the best life! :-)
I can't believe this is happening in America. i can't imagine what it is like to be a bird in a mill, or any other animal for that matter. Become a vegan and write to a representative in your hometown telling them of theses issues. i wrote To George Bush and got an email back from his people thanking me. You can make a difference. I cried so hard. i just can't believe this is happening in America.
Hard to watch. I salute you through my tears for bringing this to people's attention. Remember, people, if you want a parrot, learn about it first. And then ADOPT, ADOPT, ADOPT.
My heart breaks for these helpless creatures. It is tragic to see these once-beautiful birds driven insane and reduced to ripping out their own feathers. I hope that we can end this cycle of abuse.
breeder does not automatically = bird mill (and yes bird mills are bad)
while I do think adopting a bird from a rescue is a great thing to do, buying direct from a breeder is not necessarily a bad thing. The breeder I get my birds from has what looks much like a zoo, the animals are in large enclosures that simulate their natural environment as much as is possible. Some species are simply so rare and/or expensive it's highly unlikely you'll find them up for adoption.
Breeders may not necessarily be mills, the continued breeding of birds (among others) for profit creates more birds that end up in rescues, garages, laundry rooms etc. It's not just about the quality of life for the birds with the breeder, it's about the quality of life for them all. Every time you breed a parrot, there's one in a rescue (which are all full to capacity in N.A.) that doesn't get a home.
@AshenIdol No disrespect or abuse intended sir, but buying from breeders IS a bad thing. ALL breeders should be shut down for the simple fact that there are so many animals, (of all kinds,) in shelters/rescues that will be put down if not adopted. Our animals friends deserve better than a life of confinement, laying eggs, then having their children taken away. I've done parrot/animal rescue for over 30 years...30 years of pathos is hard to live with. : (
@alexparrot1 So let's say all the breeders of birds is shut down. (and this can be said about all animal breeders such as dogs as well but anyway..). So THEN when all of the parrots die of natural causes, then how will we continue to obtain pet birds? ..assuming that all of parrot owners do not breed any of their birds. This is why I do say yes to buying animals from breeders, as long as they are seen and are not a mill. Adoption is great too but sometimes they don't always have what u want
...and spread the word.... don't buy, don't breed, ADOPT!!!!
Mills like these and our 'disposable' attitude has FILLED rescues with unwanted birds, grieving for their flocks. But we HAVE to buy a baby from the pet store.
Bear in mind that majority of people have birds from breeders. The only way to reduce this kind of abuse and over breeding is to ADOPT birds or rescue. People are so bent on that instant gratification and buy a bird at the pet store with little to no research or with expectations that it will talk! Then when the bird isn't what they thought, or they didn't get what the expected, they become yesterdays trash. If you remove the demand from the market of new birds, less birds wil be hatched.
It's my understanding that these birds were auctioned off to other breeders to be put right back into the same situation. It is painfully sad... these poor birds deserve a life of freedom, not a life of torture in barren cages. Imagine if you spent your whole life in one barren concrete room... I know I'd go crazy :'(

Your videos are very distressing, how anyone can treat intelligent creatures in this way is beyond belief, I hope they rot in hell.

This is why I do what I do. Every bird RESCUED is one less bird needed to be left to endure THIS.
Birds should fly free in the wild, that's why God gave them wings.
Not be confined to cages for human's amusement.
You buy bred birds, people see the money in it, and they take actions like this.
These amazing creatures deserve the best. They deserve love.
Adoption only, weed out the need for baby birds born, for birds to become unwanted and forsaken, and focus on conservation of birds in the wild.
