I'm in lubbock now but have fond memories of the old Vulcan Gas Company and the the Armadillo world headquarters. Anyone remember Big Ricky(the guacamole queen)or Gilbert Shelton--wally stover(oat willie)?
If Dr JP Odwebb is watching, I remember youn playing me this.
Werdna Nitram BA (hons) 2nd class fine art, Norwich. Lost track of you after Camden Town. Hope you survived and prospered. I did. And I never lost faith.
The 13th FE's were quite influential in a couple of regards; One they influenced the nascent SF psych scene which prior to the bands arrival was primarily folk-rock based and two the legendary Janis Joplin considered joining the band but opted instead to go to SF at the behest of promoter Chet Helms to front Big Brother & The Holding Co. A year prior to her contact with Roky & the Elevators Janis sang folk/blues on an acoustic guitar adopting Roky's trademark scream later with BB & THC.
Man, what a fantastic song. These guys were unfortunately saddled with (1) being a decade ahead of themselves (2) being on a hole-in-the-wall label and, sorry, (3) being in reactionary Texas '60s. They made historic music under the worst possible conditions, right Tommy?
Its like the cops had it in for them.Musicians making pioneering music. What, there was no crime around? I think I seen some show a few years ago where they were talking to one of the Texas cops from that era,and he still had it in for Roky. Like you said, they couldnt of had worse luck.
I hate comparisons but I must say this."How can Britney and GaGa be multi-millionaires, and The Elevators not be trillionaires?"rockon

to this day Austin is still the most liberal city in Texas thanks a lot to the musical fusion going on in the mid-late 60's
