Well, folks . . . how has this "IN Grooves" outfit blocked the posting of Eckstine doing one of the saddest songs ever penned . . . "A Cottage For Sale"? . . . And did you know that his agent once told him . . . "If you were only white, I could make you bigger than Sinatra" . . . Gary in Arizona . . . courtesy of Vic561.
Another Billy Eckstine song that I love so much. As a teenager,I was so in love with him.! I day dreamed, that he was singing to me. Beautiful voice, and so handsome!
I remember when I was a kid old guy who owned the bar had a joop box and played Billy Eckstine all day.. He kept a lot of quarters because he was a number writer. :0)
Every time I find myself listening to pop singers of today, a little too much, I put on an Eckstine or a King Cole, or even a Sinatra or Crosby. Then, I come back to my senses. These guys were so great, they only had to stand still and sing. No hopping around the stage or gyrating. Just open up and belt it out. Sigh!
Thank you very much for posting this. The sonorous Mr. B at his very best. OK, I'm biased. But IMHO, if this guy isn't mentioned on anybody's list of the finest American male pop singers, or even mentioned as only a footnote, they're just polluting the air with their horse hockey. He's as good or better than Frank, Tony, Nat, Elvis, Sam, Jackie, et al, and I suspect much more influential as well.
Saw Mr. B perform at the Capitol in NYC many times. He and his trademark collars were a smash hit in the 40's and 50's. Thanks for showing his great talent.
In 1981, in a used book store I stumbled onto a 78 by Billy Eckstine entitled "Stardust." I didn't know who he was. Then in the year 2000I stumbled onto him again on George Spink's website, tuxedo junction. The song was Prisoner Of Love and I've been hooked ever since. Another of my favorites is "I Want To Talk About You" of course "A Sunday Kind Of Love" is a great tune, too! Thanks, enjoyed it!
I'm from Los Angeles, I couldn't read before I started school. But as a little kid I'd play my parents 78's, finding Billy Eckstine, at that time my most favored singer by the color of the labels. The advantage of waking early, these were my first concerts. What a voice, even after all these years I still can sing like Billy Eckstine! No not really, just dreaming but I try, he's just the best. Billy's the Man. Thanks Millsbros for all the wonderful hard to find material you post.
I love YouTube! Without it I would never discover great music like this! What a simply perfect voice!

How tall do you think he was? I started listening to his music about a decade ago, and he is right up there with Sinatra, and Como.
