  • What about the 1987 version of the CKY sign off, and all versions of the CKY Sign on?

  • CFCN-TV in Calgary also used the Winter Olympic-themed national anthem video during sign-on/sign-off shortly after the 1988 Winter Olympics, as well as CHEX-TV in Peterborough, Ontario.

  • Also . . . I'd put in 'Philips PM5544' as a tag, given its appearance at the end of this clip (I see that its dimensions for NTSC use differs from those for PAL and SECAM).

  • @wmbrown6 Sort of like WNYW-5's TP from about 1987.

  • @NEPatriot - Actually, that TP was used by Channel 5 from within its last years as Metromedia's WNEW-TV. I actually saw a picture of this TP where on the top was "WNEW-TV," and on the bottom "MMI 5 NYC." Apparently, the signal that elicited the PM5544 originated from its World Trade Center transmitter.

  • Is Canadian broadcasting supposed to do God Save The Queen prior to sign on/off?

  • @caa1000 - "O Canada" is set to the music of "God Save the Queen," I.I.N.M.

  • @wmbrown6 You are mistaken. God Save the Queen uses the same tune that Americans sing as "My Country Tis of Thee"

  • @brithgob - a.k.a. "America." But the other thing was, Canada was also for many years a part of the Commonwealth of Great Britain, which might explain some Canadian TV stations' use of "God Save the Queen" along with "O Canada."

  • @caa1000 There was nothing ever mandated to this that I'm aware of. A few channels would air "God Save The Queen", as the Queen is Canada's Monarch - but the majority of channels simply went with "O Canada"

  • @robatsea2009 And some channels do nothing, like MTN/A-Channel.

  • @caa1000 That's the way it's always been as far back as I can remember.
