i doubt it. jewel is very soulful person. she is saying that she couldn't find the solutions herself and was looking to others for the answer. the music is allegorical don't take it literally.

If you like this version you will really love the woodstock 99 version, really jams out even more, probably plugged in to an extra few thousand watts helps, but Jewel's voice toward the end really is absolutely amazing, you must check it out. She is a Jewel for sure!!!

I'm only familiar with Ang Lee's "Ride with the Devil," a civil war film. I don't think she ever followed that up with anything. Although she has done a few tv shows recently. I did find a quote of hers from an interview where she talked about having been afraid of spending big chunks of her life going to auditions and wasting time without guarantee of success... or something along those lines. So it seems like it was a conscious decision to not pursue that career route.
