After using it since I bought it June of last year...its been a decent and reliable machine...very easy starting, fairly lightweight however the flex shaft on this model has been a let down. As you'll start using it, you'll notice it shake from time to time. Its normal.
If I were to compare it with the similarly priced FS90r...the 90r wins. Good purchase.
well in his defense the 70 is pretty powerful for a entry level STIHL commercial version of the 56 . The motor's rated at 1.2hp, so it is stronger, and matches closely to the my FS-90 4-mix engine with 1.3hp, 0.1-0.2hp doesn't make a significant difference. There's more powerful units out there like the 250 at 2.5hp, but you're paying close to $650 for this, plus beyond that its clearing saw territory and aren't exactly trimmers.
first thing you got ripped off on the trimmer the i bought my fs 90r for $299 and you cant weed wack and you need a bad tune up on the mower and the sthil blowers sound like that and needs a slight adjustment
1) first thing...I DID NOT get ripped off. That's how prices of STIHL are in Canada and an FS90r is $400 here. You're lucky to have things cost less in US. Namely gas too.
2) I can't weed whack, yet I'm been in the business for for 16 years. You haven't produced videos yet, but holding the 10lb trimmer with a camera. It's hard
3) The lawnmower was fine that how it sounds for a duraforce
first thing you ripped off on the trimmer the i bought my fs 90r for $299 and you cant weed wack and you need a bad tune up on the mower and the sthil blowers sound like that and needs a slight adjustment
@Jon3800 Thanks for your videos btw...learned some things. Can i ask how come sometimes you prime a cold engine and other videos you dont? recently i havent been priming and it starts as well. Stihl manual says to prime regardless.
@Jon3800 good lol :P have u cut any thick brush with the fs 70? im going to get either the fs 110 or 130 soon and i plan on cutting some thick brush with those just wondering if u have
I haven't cut any thick brushes with this motor, but it far surpasses in power compared to my FS-38 and my other ones. I only used the 70 on real tall grass and it cuts like butter. I'm actually buying a FS 90 (4-mix) in Spring 2011 pretty soon
@Jon3800 ooh fs90 u should just get the fs100 its shouldnt be to much more money and its a 31cc only down side is the shaft is a cable and it really isnt considered a brush cutter
the fs90 does have a steel shaft i think :P
i asked for a fs110 or 130 for christmas i need a commercial unit so i wont wear it out so quickly when im doing commercial work
Actually I like the 90R. The Shaft on the 100 is the same one my 70... It really sucks and disappointing that its a flexible cable driveshaft. So when you rev it most of the time, the entire trimmer will vibrates and start wobbling violently. I was paranoid and brought it back for repair, and apparently that's normal. The 110 and 130 are good ones, but over here, its more than $700 with tax :(
@Jon3800 omg i almost choked 700$ jeeze their only 408-430$ here wow i figured the fs70 would have a steel shaft hmm but i guess not :\ im looking forward to getting the fs130 or 110 i want to find out whats its like having a good trimmer i use lets say home depot like weedeaters and when i hook the brushcutter up it feels like its gonna break in half lol >.<
jon i bought a stihl sh 56c a few days ago like i told you i was and its awsum but i winterize dit already cuz the dealer guy just put a little mix in it so it ran out and it has the same motor as your trimmer in this vid exept your trimmer is louder
My manager at a STIHL dealer said that he recomends getting something called "Ethanol shield" at Home Depot. He said that this could fix your blower because it might have a cabr or muffler clog. The mixture for 1 gallon is only $1.00 usd. Also, try "mechanic in a bottle"". it is also made by the same company as "Ethanol shield". I had a STIHL trimmer from 1999 that didnt run, and i used "mechanic in a bottle" and wouldnt you know, after 5 pulls, it fired right up.
jon, that blower looks new< it took about 2-3 tanks of fuel (break-in)on my echo pb250 before it would run wide open, it might just need broken in or try adjusting the high speed screw to adjust the carb. You may need a special tool because th "EPA" don't want us screwing with them!
hey jon, i have the bg 55. the problem tht i had with mine was a slightly clogged carb, but the muffler was real bad. The muffler is the first place i would clean. also check the air and fuel filters.
Mine's brand new too. It's the fact I live in Canada, they charge both provincial and federal taxes, so I really paid close to $400 here with the 6-pack oil
check the exhaust port on the blower, also check and see if the choke is broken, too loose, etc, check plug and carb, also air filter... Are you using 89 octane for all your 2 stroke equipment? If not that usually makes things gum up quicker from my experience and I have been landscaping commercially for more then 10 years. Lemme know how you make out Jon.
@acehydro06 I opened up the blower, choke looks fine, clean the plug, so I'm thinking the carb is clogged. Ya, I'm going to be switching to higher octane. I've been using 87 lately and you're exactly right, they do gum up more after use
And for the blower, I have 2 of those and an echo, I guess you could try popping the plate off the primer bulb and buying a carb rebuild kit, but also those have a muffler screen that is removed with a socket wrench, remove it and clean it out with a screwdriver too that usually helps then use synthetic oil so you don't have to mess with performance issues related to carbon buildup again
I was looking at these trimmers, are they the homeowner ones with a 2-ring cylinder, like the BR-85 blowers? Also you should try removing the muffler screen, I had to do that on my FC 90 and FS 130s and it really helps performance, they get clogged as soon as you get them. Also use synthetic oil even though this Stihl isn't a 4 mix it would probably help.
I think it has a 2-ring professional series low-emission stratified 2-stroke engine, just like the BG 86 handheld blower so it could be very well be a commercial version of the FS-56C-E. It' s also a successor to the 4-mix system. I saw last year's FS-90R with the 4-mix but it was $50 more than the one I just got.
I think the valves in the carb are stuck but sometimes it's better to play with the choke while it's running.
