'One for the parents.' Gawd, you're making me feel old.. LOL The 70's, TV-wise was different to what it is now. For one thing, the number of hours it actually broadcast programmes was a lot less. No breakfast TV and only 3 channels. One of which, BBC2, didn't transmit, (other than for Open University programmes at 6am, and half an hour to show PlaySchool at 11am), until the early evening! Childrens' programmes seemed more, 'homely', than they are now. But, that's just me being nostalgic.
Wonderful, back to Brian Cant and 1964 playschool, I was 6 and in the Infants in Portsmouth. The greatest kids show the BBC ever made 1964-88, I watch this with my sister 4 and my brother less than a year when it started, we are now 52, 51, 46.
Thank you for this clip, the memories have flooded back, This is real 60's footage, Brian sounds so young, he's nearing 80 now. One of BBC TV, best presenters.
humpty english, big ted and little teds i think are chiltern bears ,jemima the rag doll also english made and hamble the brunette doll with compostion body was probably bought from woolworths under the little beauty range,i loved them all they are better than any thing a kid has now as there presenters were all struggling actors before ,jeremy irons i believe was on it ,i dont remember this intro but remember the colour version
i can remember playdays in the 90s with dave benson-phillips, he was a ledgend! as a toddler i'd love it when he'd do hyped-up versions of nursery rhymes with all the jumping around!
i'm 15 and i LOVE this stuff! its so fascinating to see what it was like for kids in the 30s 40s 50s 60s and 70s.i'd never even think of watching happy slapping or the other useless violent crap that some people my age think is amusing. i'd give my left arm to have been alive in the 60s-70s! not even my parents can truly tell me what it was like :(
i'm 39 and i cant beleive i used to watch these programs as a kid, but they were good and inocent, plus we only had a couple of tv stations to select from, no such thing as satelite tv, ah yes good old play school, play away, rainbow, rent a ghost , wanderley wagon, to mention a few, a nation was reared on these tv shows, i love my sat tv , but i cant help thinking the kids today have lost a lot of inocence for the loss of such shows.. maybe im wrong...
if your 18/19 ... not much younger than me - 23 this finished waaaaaaay before we were little ones in front of the television we would of seen '' playdays'' which had a completly different format of which theres clips on here so how can u remember it ... unless of course its on dvd?? - not being funny its just impossible!
On the testcard there is a date, i cant make it! out but this is definatly 1960's early playschool and did u add the testcard or is that real footage? ... im not slagging it its a gd vid but was just wondering if that was a start up as i know bbc2 launched its day at 11am with playschool in the 70's but dont know about the 60's
yeah, im 19, i can remember it from a video my mum got me, and it was on there! How awesome was playdays? why did they get rid of it? Why bird was simply the one! lol (you have inspired me to do a playdays vid now!) i found that test card on google, i knew it was at the start of a few things back then! Also, its just pictures i compiled, i was bored one evening, and this happened! Glad you enjoyed!!
The testcard isn't authentic, the text says '(c) BBC, ITV and BREMA'... so it's a 1990's one. The actual video isn't actually a title sequence, just a montage of stills
BBC2's first programme of the day was Playschool at 11.00 right from the beginning in 1964...(well, apart from the "secret" transmitter information bulletins at 10.30 - but you're not supposed to be watching that!)

What were you trying to do, England?
Get up?
Thought so. Well you can't now. the door is locked, locks changed like they were supposed to be before "The One" too many.

When was this? Late 60s? I'm 39 and don't remember this intro. But maybe I shouldn't have been watching when I was 18 ;-)

I'm 38, and I can remember this, even though I must have been less than 3 years old when they changed the title sequence.
Hadn't seen it in 36 years, but it's strange how much information our developing brains store
that we don't consciously remember.

@xwelshbeautyx The thing is, right now is your "good old days" when you get older the young people will say to how great it was when you were a kid.

I love that you're 19 and appreciating all this old stuff - better than posting up happy slapping footage like some young people :-)
